View Full Version : Season 5 or 6- Other entrance door in Living room?
Folfan1234 04-17-2020, 01:20 PM Ok I need your help. This may have been a dream, but I could have sworn in one of the episodes of Season 5 or Season 6, there was an episode that had Blair come in through a door on the right side of the fireplace (if you are looking at it). Joe was sitting by the fireplace, and Blair came in and you saw both doors in the picture, plus the door to the kitchen. I have scoured through the episodes again and cannot find it! It just seems to real to have dreamt up, but I have been watching them before bed every night so who knows! So I figured I would ask the experts. I am currently re-watching them again and I am on season 6 Christmas in the Big House. Thanks for any help!

I think 80's mentioned this and that it was the garage entrance, but for the life of me, I don't recall seeing it. Maybe it hasn't come up yet but i'm on season 7 now. And we did see the garage in "Tootie Drives", but no entrance from there into the house yet.
80's....where are you?!
'80sSitcoms 04-17-2020, 03:19 PM No no, Folfan1234 is right! There is a "second front door" on the "other side" of the fireplace down near the audience. Blair does come through it in one episode looking anxious over something. That's the first time it's used. I think it's also used AGAIN at least once as a front door, yes, in those EE seasons (I think the first time with Blair is season 5). Then after that, it becomes a garage door going into the garage, although in other episodes the garage seems to be to the side of the house at the BACK of the stage, to the right of the back patio doors.
Folfan1234 04-17-2020, 03:23 PM 80sSitcoms THANK YOU!! But what episode is it?! I can’t find and it’s driving me mad! And yes she came in like huffing and puffing! Ok well at least I’m not making up set designs in my head! Lol
Lorimar Television 04-17-2020, 03:24 PM I definitely recall this, I think maybe in s6?

Yes, I believe she is carrying books in her other hand. I'm afraid I don't know the exact episode, but be patient. If fellow poster "Christopher" sees this, HE will know immediately.

YES! NOW I remember because I had asked that same question and it was 80's who mentioned the garage entrance from that. You're right it IS a separate entrance because I even mentioned you could see some of "outside" when Blair walked in. I have to dig in my post history to find it and figure which episode it was.

YES!! It was really green out. I feel like Blair was wearing a blue blazer but I legit cannot find the episode. I would be indebted if you find your post cfr1970!

It was episode called "The Chain Letter"! LOL I found the post I made about this same entrance--Mystery solved!
Here's the post I made last month:
Today's episode "The Chain Letter", Blair walked in from outside through a second front door in the living room. It's at the front of the stage on the other side of the fireplace from the main door. The shot was shown directly in front of it so you can even see the outside when she walks in.
I never knew there was another door and it seems weird to have one there when there's the main door 2 feet away, plus all those patio doors in back of the set. This home sure had plenty of exits!
cfr1970 04-17-2020, 06:10 PM And here was 80's reply to that. It's in "The Home Behind Edna Edible's" thread on page 3.
I know, right?? I LOVE that door!! It's so neat that it was rarely ever used as another entrance, and then, cfr, you watch---eventually it turns into a door to the garage! (Honest!)
So maybe it DOES turn into a garage later on?
Folfan1234 04-17-2020, 06:14 PM Thank you!!! You see like a clip of it in “The rich aren’t different” in season 6. But that’s the last I’ve seen of it. I listen to let’s face the facts podcast and he’s almost on season five and David loves these details so I had to make sure. Thanks for your research!

You're welcome. I too love noticing and discussing these details and am waiting to see when that garage entrance shows up.

Yes, you see greenery, and "exterior brick", I believe. But IIRC, she's not wearing a blazer, but a blouse and skirt; but you may be right!
It was episode called "The Chain Letter"! LOL I found the post I made about this same entrance--Mystery solved!
Oooo, great sleuthing, "Detective cfr!"

But that entrance does change to a garage entrance later on? Do you know which season? Maybe after the fire, they built the garage there.
Folfan1234 04-17-2020, 08:02 PM It’s so wild that this was the 13th episode of the season and it doesn’t appear again. Like it would make sense it if it was in the first few episodes of the season and then they changed their mind.

I have no clue what the reason was for her to walk through an extra door like that when she could've just used the regular one 2 feet away. I'd have to see that episode again, but all I can think is they specifically wanted Blair at that front part of the stage rather than towards the back when she made her entrance.
Why they wanted that, I have no idea. Someone needs to ask Lisa this on her next FOL interview.

Lol, well, I haven't seen that door in season 8 so far (though I've skipped a handful), so maybe it's in 9?

My own theory is they wanted to add a unique touch to the set by having "2 front doors" (but who does that??)
But maybe Blair was walking toward the house where she was closer to that "auxiliary door"---if so, it'd make sense for Blair to go to the closest door and not have to take as many steps.
Why they wanted that, I have no idea. Someone needs to ask Lisa this on her next FOL interview.
If she'd even remember it! lol
RetroGuy2000 04-17-2020, 11:19 PM My own theory is they wanted to add a unique touch to the set by having "2 front doors" (but who does that??)
No one.
It's as weird as the doors between the cafeteria and the lounge in Seasons 2/3.Why? WHY!?!
TV Guy 04-18-2020, 09:48 AM It’s a door to the room where they kept the Lost Girls.
Folfan1234 04-18-2020, 11:44 AM Hopefully this comes through! But I did the research and you all were right.
cfr1970 04-18-2020, 12:07 PM And the door opens out! This has to be the same door they had in the original front door spot at the beginning of the season that was shown to open out. Then they changed it to open in after that episode. I guess seeing how they messed up making that prop door, they figured, "we better make use out of it now" LOL.
I'm going to say right outside is a driveway or garage and this was the entrance from there and there's probably trees or bushes outside in between both front doors making it logical to use that entrance when they park their cars out there.

But then why do they use the other door ten feet away, in most episodes?
cfr1970 04-18-2020, 04:50 PM But then why do they use the other door ten feet away, in most episodes?
I'm just going to go with the main door was used when they walked home because it was closer to the side street and seems easier to access from their walks.
And the extra one that Blair walked through above is next to the driveway/garage and when you pulled up to the house, that door was closer.
Otherwise, there's just no reason for that door's existence. There doesn't even seem to be one to accommodate the plot for that episode either.
Who knows....maybe the main door was just stuck the day.

I'm not, because they almost always use the other door. :) I say Blair was coming from the direction of the audience downstage from the living room, so that door was just closer.
It'll be easy to remember this episode now. Just think there's a "chain of doors", and you'll think of "The Chain Letter". ;)
And that pic above was waaaaaaay too big, lol, so here it is knocked down 70% (and Folfan1234, you were right, she had a blazer!) :

How to you make the pictures smaller?
RetroGuy2000 04-19-2020, 12:39 PM How to you make the pictures smaller?
Open the picture in Microsoft Paint or your favorite image editing program. In Paint, on the Home tab, click "Resize". Change the 100% to, say, 50%, making sure the "maintain aspect ratio" button is checked. Then save the file.

Seems it's different on a chromebook. When I click to resize a pic in my files, it doesn't go by percentage but looks like this:
Width Height
____px ____px
And then you have to lower the numbers in the blanks before the "px" and save. I tested it and it worked but I have no idea what the "px" stands for.:confused:
Impressions 04-19-2020, 01:15 PM I watched this episode again, and yes, this "other door" appears (you also see see the framing/millwork of this door in "The Rich Aren't Different" as well). Natalie and Tootie also walk-through the curtained patio doors in "The Chain Letter." Then they leave them open for the remainder of the episode! They just storm through the door, and leave 'em open  I can't think of another time where someone uses these doors...

I can't believe they did that!

Hmmm, I think they're used again, surely, within 2 more seasons (though, out of all the season 8 shows I just watched, they didn't).
valentina warner 04-19-2020, 07:42 PM The 'Chain Letter' is one of my favourite episode on season 5: the girls almost SCREWED up and MRS G plays big boss with them there ha ha ha! (i just love the ending, when she is testing them: you can tell she DESPERATELY want them back!).
Such a sweet ending LOVE IT!!!!
Folfan1234 04-19-2020, 08:15 PM Cfr1970 and 80s sitcoms ok garage is spotted season 9 episode 8 “A rose by any other age”. Tootie and Blair are cleaning out things move them to the garage before Blair’s study date and Jo is upstairs because she pulled out her back (unseen) moving the boxes.

Where Tootie is, is that the bricks to the right of the fireplace? If so, then it looks like the very same door Blair came in from outside during "Chain Letter"!
That means after the fire they built a garage there lol. It's the only logical explanation.
I haven't gotten to season 9 yet so i'm looking forward to seeing this one now. Do we get to see the inside of it too?
BTW love Tootie's hair. You can really tell it's the late 80's now. :cheer:

Yes, it's definitely the same door, but with a different "outcome"! lol
That means after the fire they built a garage there lol. It's the only logical explanation.
But why would they build a garage on the house when 1) they probably already had one, and 2) the fire didn't damage that part of the building?
(you'll see in season 8's "The Wedding Day" where the garage is apparently to the right of the back patio doors)

No, there are no scenes in the garage. And don't look so forward to season 9! Most folks here don't care much for it, and 8 is so much better---please, savor 8!

And yes, music was REALLY great back then, and i normally tend to go to retros night clubs (i did before the 'Lock down' anyway) where they only play 70 s , 80 s and 90 's music: it's quite trendy nowadays, and you can find discos like that anywhere i reckon.....

Since we actually see Blair walk through that same door before the fire, it's the only thing that makes sense to suddenly see a garage there.
But if you say the garage is then shown at the back patio doors later on, then it all gets shot to hell and it's just goofy writers high on crack.

Impressions 04-19-2020, 10:17 PM Yeah, the garage entrance door in “A Rose By Any Other Age” is right where that “Chain Letter” door used to be. It’s right at the beginning of the episode. Now I need to watch these other episodes where a garage is mentioned.

"Px" is the abbreviation for "pixels", which just means the number of dots appearing on the screen. To reduce the number of pixels across or down by half, reduce those numbers by half.
All that matters is that you reduce the huge size of really big images, so just experiment a little. :)

Yeah! I've seen lots of folks here say 7 is kinda messy and 8 is a lot better, and 9 not that good. So yes, enjoy 8! :D

I also just noticed that the fireplace now has blue bricks surrounding it and when the room was green, it was red bricks with white cement in between. So apparently the fire destroyed the fireplace too because they knocked the whole thing down and rebuilt it from scratch!

So far season 7 has some good episodes. I only have 6 episodes to go before season 8 starts. The beginning of the season was solid with the fire and rebuild, then we saw Jo as a teacher, the letter one with Mrs. G as the focus, and of course one of my favorites "Tootie Drives".
The midseason is where it goes into a slump and i'm hoping the final 6 episodes go out on a high. I wouldn't call season 7 messy, just uneven. But there are some real good ones there.

Funny enough you said that, and for once we don't agree cfr1970.
From what i remember, season 7 was my least favourite season of them all, and the main reason being: MRS G becomes a 'wall paper', they added GEORGE as one of the main and it irritated me, and the stories were completely absurd!!!!:eek::eek:
By season 8 we witness a very beautiful and heartbreaking farewell between MRS G and her girls, the story plots become more interesting as the friendship between the girls are put to test, GEORGE almost disappear, and ANDY has more interesting lines. (The only thing that i didn't get used to,was having BEVERLY ANN replace MRS G though).:(:(:(
Even Season 9 was better than 7, cos the girls have more adventures (other than the ones revolving 'Over our heads') and i like very much the fact that BLAIR becomes the headmistress: finally she gets a serious role!:wave::wave:
:yippee::yippee::yippee:
bellbm 04-20-2020, 08:04 PM Could also have to do with how far they could get the cameras in the set. Maybe they really wanted a shot walking through the door, and couldn't get the camera far enough into the set to get it from the regular door.

Ok So CFR1970 I know you are not there yet, but in Season 9 Episode 12 "A Thousand Frowns" Natalie takes Pippa to the garage. They only show the door, not opened, but Natalie says come follow me to the garage. At least they are being more consistent!

But we do see tighter shots of the "main" door in future episodes.
RetroGuy2000 04-20-2020, 11:16 PM Ok So CFR1970 I know you are not there yet, but in Season 9 Episode 12 "A Thousand Frowns" Natalie takes Pippa to the garage. They only show the door, not opened, but Natalie says come follow me to the garage. At least they are being more consistent!
Nice research, FOLfan!

Yeah, I know what you mean. I also teach, but at the college level. It's been fun seeing episodes I hadn't seen in years!

Is the door to the garage where Blair walked in for "Chain Letter"? I think it was 80'sSitcoms that said there's also an episode where the garage entrance is shown by the back patio doors.
I counted the episodes and that one you mention in season 9 "A Thousand Frowns" should air May 19th so i'm keeping my eye out for that one now. Man they just threw up entrances anywhere they damn well felt like it on that show.
It also says it's the episode where Jo meets her future husband so the title is appropriate lol.
And then the "Lost Girls" era should begin again on May 29th (assuming Antenna TV interrupts the schedule with some silly Memorial Day Marathon of something on 5/25) and we start FOL all over again! :yippee::yippee:
BTW Antenna TV will have a Mother's Day FOL Marathon on Sunday May 10!!

Eh? I've been responding to CFR's posts, watching many of the episodes at the same time and responding.

Hmmm, but I believe you've been hiding this fact? ;) I don't recall any post of you saying you're currently watching FOL. :nonono: (and I wasn't getting the sense you were. But if you're watching post-Eastland episodes, this is NEWSWORTHY!)

 My memory of some of the episodes isn't good enough that I could write this (https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showpost.php?p=5716465&postcount=37) or this (https://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showpost.php?p=5716721&postcount=41) without viewing the episodes in question. I enjoy many of the Edna's Edibles episodes, although by then, the show had already irrevocably changed, as Mrs. Garrett faded further and further away with each episode, and as the writers moved further away from the original premise: Mrs. Garrett at Eastland, with her seven girls.

CFR1970- You can try to watch seasons 3,4,5&6 on Roku Channel and Seasons 6&7 on Crackle (both online if you are in the US). I am hoping Crackle puts out 8&9 soon. I say this because they are the uncut episodes so you get a bonus 3-4 minutes because the ones on Antenna are the syndicated episodes. I would imagine some of these scenes were cut. 4 minutes added makes a difference too!

You know i will always agree with you Retro!
MRS G was promised to get a show FOCUSED on her as the main one: we already see that on the pilot episode 'The girls school', where she plays the character with most lines, who interact with all the girls who are later to start on FOL.
MRS G eventually becomes a success and is the center of attention by season 1 as the housemother of 7 girls.
By season 2 she is the nutritionist of 4 main girls, and her fame continues to rise for a while.
Nevertheless, as the girls continue to grow, MRS G's fame begins to decrease, until she is only a shadow of herself, and eventually leaves the show for good...:(:(:(

Impressions 04-29-2020, 01:55 PM Here's a mystery to me. In season 5, this upstage front door appears first in "The Chain Letter," with Blair entering through it, in what appears to lead in from the driveway. Then, in season 8, it appears again with George exiting the door, to go to the garage. Then, in season 9, the garage is now directly connected to this upstage door through a small hallway, and not through a driveway anymore. Meaning, they must've built a bigger garage, added a new one, or moved it closer to this upstage front door, prior to season 9.
Here's the "smoking gun"...
'80sSitcoms 04-29-2020, 04:18 PM And look behind Blair! I never noticed that building before! It looks like the garage is there just a little bit away!

Impressions, nice work on the Season 8 grab. Do you know what episode that is from?

It's from "Write or Wrong." The episode where Natalie confronts Andy's grandmother (Desiree) for plagiarizing and publishing her story in a magazine.
