(a takeoff on "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" [which I've heard of but neer seen, lol] )

So there are 7 girls when FOL starts, and 7 wonders of the world. I've always enjoyed the 7 wonders of the ancient world in particular, so I'll go with those.

Here are the 7 wonders of the ancient world:

The Great Pyramids of Giza, Egypt
The Lighthouse at Alexandria, Egypt
The Statue of Zeus at Olympus, Greece
The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, Greece
The Colossus of Rhodes, Greece
The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Iraq
The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, Turkey

How would I match each of the girls to each of the 7 wonders? Hmmm, let's see...

The Great Pyramids of Giza, Egypt - Tootie

The Lighthouse at Alexandria, Egypt - Molly

The Statue of Zeus at Olympus, Greece - Blair

The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, Greece - Cindy

The Colossus of Rhodes, Greece - Nancy

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Iraq - Sue Ann

The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, Turkey - Natalie

The pyramids for Tootie because I always think she looks really Egyptian in "Pretty Babies" at the photo shoot.

The lighthouse for Molly because with her technical prowess you know she'd figure out how everything about it works in no time flat!

The statue of Zeus for Blair because Zeus was the king of the Greek gods and thought he should be worshiped, and Blair sees herself as queen of the Eastland girls and thinks she should be worshiped :snob:

The temple of Artemis for Cindy because Artemis was basically the "tomboy" of the Greek goddesses---she was the goddess of the hunt (a historically masculine affair), her divine parents didn't stay married, she was athletic, and she didn't go for long feminine clothing

The Colossus of Rhodes for Nancy because that statue was VERY TALL, and Nancy is the tallest of the girls---"The Colossus of Eastland"

The hanging gardens of Babylon for Sue Ann because she probably grew up "hanging" around all kinds of crops back in Kansas City, Kansas ;)

And the masoleum at Halicarnassus for Natalie because she later developed a deep interest in dead writers and wanted to visit their graves :rip:

Wow, so this is what it's like to be on a work stoppage after midnight!

Nice!

I particularly like the connection between the Pyramids of Giza and Tootie!

When I was a kid, my cousin gave me a book called "Facts and Figures" which had all sorts of interesting facts, including illustrations of Okapis, Quaggas, and a section on the Seven Wonders. My favorite Wonder was always the Colossus of Rhodes, in part because of America's "New Colossus".

Nice!

Definitely something different, huh?

I'm not an expert on historical Egyptian clothing by any means, but every time I watch PB, when she comes out of that dressing room she just SCREAMS at me, "EGYPT!!!"

They should digitally insert her into the court of Pharaoh in Cecil B. De Mille's "The Ten Commandments"!

When Blair was a kid, her cousin passed something down the table without spilling it and she got a standing ovation. ;)

Nice! Okapis, quaggas, awesome...I first learned of quaggas from a Childcraft book (if you're familiar with those). And ligers! That was so cool.

Yeah? Interesting...my favorite wonder has always been the hanging gardens of Babylon. It's because it sounds so exotic, so mystical, so entrancing...and it's neat it was the only "living" wonder.

There isn't definitive proof that the hanging gardens definitely existed, but I of course love to think they did. :)

While the hanging gardens have always been my favorite, I love it that that temple of Artemis is one of them, as after I discovered Greek mythology in 6th grade, Artemis right away became my favorite of all the Greek goddesses. props:

It's definitely Egyptian... or a Hollywood interpretation of Egyptian, for sure.

I just googled the name, and yes, we had a few of those, but only a few because they were hand-me-downs from our cousins. We had a much more complete set called the All About Books (https://reshelvingalexandria.com/pub/series/all-about-books), all but one missing their book covers.

I can definitely see why they would be your favorite. And I suspect the massive ruins of gardens at Nineveh are actually the ruins of the HGoB.

Right? I can't believe it's such a BLATANT look like that, but no mention of it at all! lol...just exasperation at how "different" she looks, but not WHAT she looks like. No remarks of an Egyptian queen or anything.

Not familiar with those, but I did love those Childcraft books. :read: I have some that were my favorites (The Green Kingdom, Story of the Sea, Mathemagic, Dinosaurs, The Puzzle Book).

Tell ya what, let's hope so as we go split a Moby Dick sundae. :)

Yeah. Maybe, since it wasn't scripted, the wardrobe department had to create a look.

We definitely had The Green Kingdom and the Dinosaurs one.

Oo! That would be such a fun "fact" if the wardrobe and make people did her up in secret for that scene and Charlotte, Lisa, Nancy, and Mindy had no idea what she looked like until she stepped out of the photo studio's dressing room door! :) (I'm not suggesting that, I'm just saying it would be such fun IF it were that way)

Cool! I remember being a little weirded out reading about strangler figs! And the poor two dinosaurs that got stuck together and died, with that carnivore's claw caught behind the herbivore's bony shield, their skeletons still stuck to each other when they were discovered---all that danged carnivores fault!

Yep, definitely more research needed, but an interesting idea.

Yes! That's why I loved books like that. So much learning, and so many weird facts. The fighting dinosaurs fossils are crazy.

Yes, I learned so much from those. To this day when I take my nature walks, I notice all the strangler figs there are on those poor other trees, and I'm amazed at how many there are!

Yes. Very sad, indeed. But there's a plan to rebuild the Colossus of Rhodes (https://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/a18877/architects-want-to-rebuild-colossus-of-rhodes/).

That's pretty cool. I know some were lost to natural disasters, but I just wish those that had been destroyed by invading civilizations had been left standing at least as monuments to the artistic possibilities of mankind. But I guess they didn't go for that.

They do! It's very uncouth! Why is it always the arts that suffer??

(but really, yeah. When I was reading my friend's book about the 7 wonders, it hurt to read about some new ruler moving in and destroying these things because they didn't align with HIS religion or HIS beliefs, or that it didn't come from HIM [that last point, kinda like how lions will cubs that aren't their own if they take over a family---yeesh!] )
