The recent passing of Thomas L. Miller made me wonder if he and Robert L. Boyett produced (http://www.manic-expression.com/a-look-at-sitcom-production-companies-millerboyett-productions/) their best work (https://www.neogaf.com/threads/miller-boyett-tgif-style-sitcoms-could-they-work-today.1049547/) when they were at Paramount (1974-84), when they were producing shows with Garry Marshall and Edward K. Milkis or when they moved over to Lorimar/Warner Bros. (1986-99)?

It was during the Paramount era that Miller-Boyett (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miller-Boyett_Productions) produced Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Mork & Mindy, Angie, Bosom Buddies, and Joanie Loves Chachi. During the Lorimar/Warner Bros. era, they produced Valerie (https://www.macleans.ca/uncategorized/the-20th-anniversary-of-the-most-awesomest-tv-contract-dispute-ever/)/Valerie's Family/The Hogan Family, Perfect Strangers (https://perfectstrangersreviewed.wordpress.com/page/10/), Full House (https://www.macleans.ca/culture/television/why-full-house-endureth-forever/), Family Matters (https://tv.avclub.com/family-matters-made-a-glass-half-full-sitcom-out-of-bla-1798283210#!), and Step by Step (https://greenmountainwriting.com/sitcom-rewind/step-by-step/) just to name a few (https://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/fl-xpm-1990-09-11-9002130504-story.html).

Do you agree with the suggestion (https://www.reddit.com/r/television/comments/fxci8i/thomas_l_miller_the_legendary_television_producer/fmv2sq2/) that Garry Marshall and Edward Milkis (https://www.datalounge.com/thread/23419101-disney-now-owns-20th-century-fox.-predictions-) acted as buffers against dare I say, their most obviously stupid (https://www.deseret.com/1993/7/3/19054588/why-are-these-stupid-sitcoms-so-stunningly-successful) ideas?

Loved Happy Days for the first four or five seasons. Sadly, the longer it stayed on, the more it morphed into a Miller-Boyett production.

I voted the Lorimar-Warner era too. Way way way too many good shows they did during that era! I truly miss those days.

The bigger news here for me is Mr. Miller died!?!! I didn’t know! I follow this stuff fairly regularly too! I’ll have to look this up in a second.

Thank you for the link and for making that thread. Mr. Miller and Mr. Boyett made my Friday nights growing up great! Will be forever grateful to them for that! I didn’t know Mr. Miller was born in Milwaukee, a little less than 100 miles from me. Now the Milwaukee setting for both Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley makes complete sense.
