View Full Version : "Gone With the Wind"?
cfr1970 04-02-2020, 04:28 PM "As God as my witness....I'll never watch this episode again!!" puke::barf:
I know this is a favorite around here but I can't get on board. I just can't!
Tootie, who I LOVE...I wanted to strangle here! What the hell happened to her? It's like she was possessed, or drunk....or possessed AND drunk, and mental! Inviting the whole bar to the house when she's there for less than 10 minutes. Who does that?! WHY would anyone do that? And the whole bar just immediately dropped everything and left with her LOL! In what universe does that happen?!
Jo under the sunlamp for all of 30 seconds and gets burnt to a crisp. That doesn't happen either. Was that a parody of sunlamps or something?! It made no sense.
Blair falling in love with that 30 year old handyman. If he was under 30, then i'm 25! And in just 2 days she's in love with him?! I'm sorry, but that was so out of character for her. And as if that isn't unrealistic enough, they toss this in....We learn she wants to have a family "in 2 years"....so that means right out of college Blair wants children....Then what the hell is she doing at Langley if she's just going to pop out babies right after graduation?! Just looking for a husband?!
Natalie...NATALIE!!!....And this is the kicker!! The shocker to end ALL shockers!....NATALIE out of all of them was the NORMAL one here! The only one that showed common sense and stayed in character through the whole thing! And ironically the only one I liked!! Everything else was like the Twilight Zone, opposite world here! I couldn't believe what I was watching! It was like the Facts of Life go to another planet or something! :ufo:
And Flyman...I remember that guy from some 80's daytime soap. He was cringy then and cringy here. That bad hair, and that bad singing....ah! He represents the dark part of the 80's that most of us would rather forget. I don't think Jo would've gone for a dork like that in a million years. Heck no. She would've spent the whole weekend making fun of that guy! And his bullets LOL...Oh Lord...WHY?!
Where oh WHERE was Mrs. G to save me from this inescapable nightmare?! I wished we had followed her wherever she went for those 2 episodes instead.
And living in FL for 20 years now, I can say with 100% certainty that we see hurricanes coming well over a week away. The girls would've known a hurricane was coming and would never have flown down there. They don't just pop out of the blue like tornadoes!:lol::lol:
I'd rather be tied up and watch Jo on the horse with her photography teacher on non stop replay for 2 days then see this episode again.
Gone with the Wind?!.....More like Gone with the PLOT!! puke::barf:
Please, please let there be someone else that thinks this is a bizarre episode and not one of their best efforts. It was just so so....bad! Am I the only sane one?!:lol:
<ducking from the flinging arrows, torches and pitchforks now!>
Christopher 04-02-2020, 04:58 PM It's not that bad of an episode. There's definitely better episodes than these two this season. I'm not surprise Tootie invited the whole bar. She was being a wild teenager on Spring Break. I thought that was normal. The sunlamp is definitely an exaggeration. I didn't like that part. I don't understand how Blair fell in love with Ben that quick either. They only knew each other for a few hours. At least Jo had more time with that teacher before getting serious with him.
May I spoil something for you about Flyman? If not, don't highlight the following text I put in white  Flyman comes back for an episode in season 7 :p
I hope you like The Last Drive In and Sisters. I think those are two of the best episodes from this series.

Uh-oh!
Inviting the whole bar to the house when she's there for less than 10 minutes. Who does that?! WHY would anyone do that? And the whole bar just immediately dropped everything and left with her LOL! In what universe does that happen?!
Lol, yeah, that was unbelievable.
If he was under 30, then i'm 25!
We learn she wants to have a family "in 2 years"....so that means right out of college Blair wants children....Then what the hell is she doing at Langley if she's just going to pop out babies right after graduation?! Just looking for a husband?!
Wow, that is odd! I never registered that.
His..."bullets"? (did you mean "mullet"??)
And living in FL for 20 years now, I can say with 100% certainty that we see hurricanes coming well over a week away. The girls would've known a hurricane was coming and would never have flown down there. They don't just pop out of the blue like tornadoes!
Ha! Good point!

:brent
Well, we've got it in writing!
I'm not surprise Tootie invited the whole bar. She was being a wild teenager on Spring Break. I thought that was normal.
I didn't think it was. It always takes me aback when I see that. To me, not only does it seem "reaching" to do that, but this is Natalie's grandmother's home. Her best friend's grandmother's home. Why on earth she would invite a whole bar of people (in less than 10 minutes) to her best friend's grandmother's house is beyond me. That is incredibly risky and incredibly rude. Definitely not Tootie's best moment. :nonono:
May I spoil something for you about Flyman? If not, don't highlight the following text I put in white
Nice of you to ask him, and nice to "hide it" too---what a great idea!
(I bet he'll highlight it---we know he can't resist peeking!)
Christopher 04-02-2020, 05:21 PM His..."bullets"? (did you mean "mullet"??)
Flyman was wearing a bullet strap in the episodes.
'80sSitcoms 04-02-2020, 05:23 PM Flyman was wearing a bullet strap in the episodes.
Ahh, okay. I didn't remember that, so I had to Google what "bullet straps" are, lol.
cfr1970 04-02-2020, 05:37 PM Yeah, even Natalie made a snarky comment about it. He just looked ridiculous! Jo would've have laughed her ass off at him if she wasn't possessed in this episode like Tootie and Blair was.
And another thing about Tootie that was weird....she wastes 5 bucks on a whiskey sour not to drink it but just so she can hear herself order it?!! What kind of moron does that?! No one!!...And then she dances right out of that bar 2 minutes later with the whole bar following her and stiffing the others with her whisky bill!! LOL!
EDIT!....I highlighted and looked....not a spoiler because I saw that Atlantic City one (or was it Vegas?) last year when Decades had their marathon. That guy is just so bad lol. I have to Google him now to find out whatever became of him.
cfr1970 04-02-2020, 05:41 PM Flyman was Michael Damien from Young and the Restless. Seems he did that soap for 30 years and apparently hasn't done anything since 2013. And the world is grateful!!

Hahaha! I can actually see dumb teenagers doing that just for the thrill! (and I say "dumb" because a whole lot of teenagers do dumb things, past-teen-me included, lol)
Oh! And I forgot to add in my thoughts on your thoughts (lol)---I think Jo "dancing" when she could barely move was one of the funniest moments in the episode!

 At least he didn't "fly" off to Bay City, Illinois!
cfr1970 04-02-2020, 05:55 PM The actor who played Ben was apparently 27 when this filmed....He must have fudged on his bio because he doesn't look a day under 30 to me.
'80sSitcoms 04-02-2020, 05:58 PM Holy crap! That actor who played Ben was 37! Damn! They couldn't find ANY good looking 20 year olds to play that part?! There has to be a story behind that...
There is!
You see, that's the "pattern" of the show. In seasons 1 and 2, the show got guys in their 20s to pass off as teenage boys to date these underage girls. So when the girls are around 20, the show guys in their 30s to pass off as 20-somethings to date them.
So see? That's just how it goes!
someone must have owed a really big favor LOL.
37...YIKES!
cfr1970 04-02-2020, 06:02 PM Hahaha! I can actually see dumb teenagers doing that just for the thrill! (and I say "dumb" because a whole lot of teenagers do dumb things, past-teen-me included, lol)
It was just dumb. I've done wacky things as a teen, but never ordered a drink just to hear myself do it. They just had Tootie acting drunk for some reason. If she was, I could let it slide, but she was supposed to be sober and acting like a nut job!
Oh! And I forgot to add in my thoughts on your thoughts (lol)---I think Jo "dancing" when she could barely move was one of the funniest moments in the episode!
And that's not saying much either! Too bad we didn't see what happened when she supposedly jumped on stage with the Flyman. (God even his name is cringeworthy)....I swear normal Jo would've been making fun of that guy through the whole episode.
I can see if Natalie hooked up with him and Jo ragged on it. That would've made much more sense.
 At least he didn't "fly" off to Bay City, Illinois!
AW had quality actors and wouldn't have dared to hire that two bit dancing monkey for their show! Never!
Can you see someone like Flyman sparring with the likes of Carl Hutchins?! I can't either.

I edited that out! Ah...you caught it....I did poor math. He was born in 1958 so he was 27 not 37...but the fact that you easily believed it shows how old he looks.

You really cracked me up with your 'TWILIGHT ZONE' comparison for 'Gone with the wind'!
I'm sorry that this time we don't have the same point of view: i actually didn't think it was weird for BLAIR to fall for a guy she just met! (sometimes it happens like that with love at first sight) I think the fact that BEN put her in her place is what made BLAIR fall for him.
Even JO says "Blair likes him too!";)
And to me BEN could have easily passed for a college guy (he didn't look 30 come on!).
If you consider all the guys BLAIR's been dating: to me CLIFF and TED looked more like 30, and at the time she was only a high school kid and a college freshman lol!:eek
But i'm surely glad MRS G wasn't around: it would have been just like an episode like the 'Girls school' (except they were a little older and had boys) having her running like crazy and making facial expressions ha ha ha! and yelling "GIRLS AND BOYS!"

Well they didn't do FL justice. For the love of God they had spontaneous hurricanes popping out of the sky!
And then the next morning there's zero damage because at the last minute the spontaneous storm decided not to hit where the girls are partying.
Yet the 65 year old handyman that Blair had the hots for is boarding up windows all over the place.

She had to! You mean when they did the 2001 reunion she was a 38 year old spinster?! Get outta here! BLAIR?! OMG that's SAD! :(:(
Why would they do that to her???!!
cfr1970 04-03-2020, 01:10 AM OMG you lied! I went to IMDB in shock and looked it up--
Blair is wealthier than ever, after building a hotel empire with her husband, Tad. But she suspects he is having an affair
Still sad if she has a cheating husband though. And I don't like that dorky name Tad. You'd think she'd have hooked her up with Mr. Geritol from Gone With the Wind, but he probably died of old age by then.
cfr1970 04-03-2020, 01:17 AM OMG they're saying in the IMDB reviews on that reunion movie that Natalie looked 50 years old lol. Did she really look that bad?! More than one review is saying this. I have to look for it on you tube now to see for myself.
'80sSitcoms 04-03-2020, 01:29 AM cfr!!
I'm sorry, I thought you meant on the series! I personally don't count that reunion movie since it's not part of the series (unlike the Paris and Aussie movies, which aired "with" the show)
But yeah, she had married some dude by then. As for Natalie, well, not looking 50 really (though there's NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT cfr!!!), but maybe she didn't look her best?
RetroGuy2000 04-03-2020, 01:38 AM OMG you lied! I went to IMDB in shock and looked it up--
'80sSitcoms doesn't consider the movie canonical. (I, however, do. It had an actual cafeteria scene and they mentioned Sue Ann).

I think i'm going to have to agree with 80's...I found the whole movie on you tube just now (will watch the whole thing another time)...but just from the scene where the three of them meet up at the hotel is weird and not true to the characters.
Blair is acting like Boots St. Claire to the extreme...even with Nat and Tootie who she was always herself without the airs with. Here she's putting on those airs and it just rings so fake and untrue to who Blair was with them.
It looks like she's turned into a parody of Boots!! puke::barf:
And yeah...I have to say Natalie looks like she's carrying a Medicare card in her purse. She does look 50!
And before 80's makes a half century joke...50 on a man looks a lot better than on a woman!...And go ahead and tell that to Molly and see if I care! It's true!:lol:

During the last three seasons of FOL, Blair slowly turned into a caricature of herself. IMO, if you accept the last three seasons of FOL as canon, even with that Blair, then you have to accept the Reunion as canon as well.

Why would they do that to her character after having her experience all that growth from seasons 2 through 6?! Seeing her grow and change was a huge part of Blair's endearment.
I'm not looking forward to seeing her regress back to shallow Blair again. :(
TV Guy 04-03-2020, 07:50 AM I also hated what they did to Blair in the last couple of seasons. Thanks, Irma Kalish!
The reunion also sucked. There was no reason that Blair would open a hotel in Peekskill, and the plot of the two underwear models competing for Natalie was ridiculous. Also, the actress playing Jo’s daughter was terrible (and too old).
I don’t understand why they didn’t just center the whole thing around an Eastland class reunion. That way, you could have seen other girls beyond the core four (well, three) and Nancy’s absence wouldn’t have been felt as much.

Blair still has her growth in seasons 7 and 8. There's a lot of episodes where you see that. A New Life, Christmas Baby, Concentration, Out of Peekskill, Where's Poppa, and Rites of Passage to name a few. She still has her heart of caring about others and doing the right thing when faced with the decision. The Blair in seasons 7 and 8 is no different than the Blair in seasons 2 - 6. Now Blair is season 9 was off. She was more for goofy moments than anything else that year.

That's good to hear! I was picturing her reverting to Boots St. Clair type behavior and while she still does that in front of strangers, she's long dropped that facade with the group, and seeing her pick it up again when she first met up with Tootie & Natalie in the 2001 movie was NOT how Blair would've acted.
I only watched that scene and shut it off last night. Maybe she goes back to normal later on when she's with everyone after a while.
I read on the film's Wikipedia page that they filmed that movie on the day of the 9/11 attacks which must have been really difficult for all of them to carry on with their roles while all that was happening at the same time.

Centering around Eastland and having it be a class reunion with all the girls would've been so much better. What a lost opportunity, and with Charlotte Rae gone, it doesn't look like another one will happen now. :(
The reviews on IMDB from fans about Natalie and those guys fighting over her are scathing but so funny to read.

Oh the reunion movie is awful. Blair in that film is like the Blair in season 9. Too goofy and airheaded. It's my least favorite film in the series. What I really despise about the movie is having Tootie as a widow. I like to think the reunion movie never happened and she's still with Jeff enjoying life together.

I don't necessarily agree with people's opinions regarding Natalie having two guys fight over given how she looks. Looks are not everything when it comes to dating. That's what Natalie's character has always been about since the beginning of the series. As long as you have confidence in yourself and you treat others with respect, looks are at the bottom of the list when picking someone.

Tootie's a widow?! I didn't go that far in the film, but I agree making Tootie a widow is stupid. Wasn't this supposed to be a lighthearted reunion? Having them separated and Jeff coming to the reunion to win her back would've been lots more fun to see.
I only watched a few minutes of the hotel lobby scene when they all met up. Was it played that they all haven't seen each other since FOL show and this was the first time they were all together again?

I haven't watched the scenes, but to be fair, the reviews are saying those guys were underwear models. So in that aspect they are playing it towards looks as far as the guys are concerned, therefore you should be able to make opinions on Natalie's looks in return. Otherwise it's a blatant double standard.
But I do agree with your point and Natalie had tons of personality to make up where she may have lacked in the looks department. If the 2 guys were average looking Joe Shmos then looks wouldn't even be discussed, but hiring extra good looking guys to play those parts automatically allows the subject of looks to be discussed imo.

Yeah, I just don't count the whole thing in my FOL canon. For me it was much too far after the series with too many unfortunate ingredients.
I do like the idea that a lighthearted approach would have been so much better.
Now, whatever season it was where they had Blair surprised to learn the US Mint makes things called "coins", is too ridiculous for words. (UNLESS she was using a dry sense of humor or going for a joke, but otherwise, if she seemed sincere, UGH)

That especially makes no sense since she was shown to be very business savvy. Blair would certainly know what the US Mint was. God even Tootie would know that....the only character I can see being confused by it would be Rose Nylund.

It's 'Up From Down Under' in season 9. Here's the exact quote:
Blair: The other day she comes up to me and asked, how come the little coin is worth 10 cents and the big coin is worth only 5? I didn't even know we had coins.

Well Blair was laughing when she said it so who knows if she was being a goofy airhead or not. Season 9 Blair was very strongly about how rich she is compared to other years and not caring about others problems. She had a spoiled tone to her that wasn't as forceful before.

It started in season 6 too. When she first meets geriatric Ben in "Gone With the Wind" she immediately mentions her father has "money". This is literally the first 60 seconds of meeting him and I noticed that was way out of character for her.
Rich people usually don't immediately tell people they have "money" when meeting new people in the first few seconds. They have class to know it's bad form and Blair would never have made such a "faux pas" like that. In fact, I cringed when she said it, because it was so NOT Blair by that point.

Yep. Blair slowly becomes a stereotype, a caricature of her old self. There are still some good episodes mixed in there, but it becomes more obvious as the seasons grind along: the writers and producers forget who Blair was. She was always rich, but she also is supposed to have a heart of gold.

I don't know if the whole scene you're referring to was shown. Ben said he doesn't like all types of women and Blair asked him what his type was. He said when he sees it, he'll let her know. She then starts boosting herself to Ben saying, "do you know what you're seeing?" and then continues speaking up for herself. Ben and Blair were throwing banter at each other. That's why she threw in there her father makes a lot of money. I don't think it was unnatural for Blair to respond like that because Blair has always thrown out there she's rich. She's done it in every season using her 'Warner' name.

It was the way she said it though. "My father makes a lot of money". And she just met this guy. The line when he said about her type "when I see it i'll let you know" was shown, and Blair looked insulted lol. I just thought the way she said it was a little UN-Blair in that specific context.
He was clearly not interested in the airs she was putting on, so for her to go all in and double down with it made little sense.

To me it was more than obvious that BLAIR was besotted with BEN, and the fact that he didn't fall at her feet and told her how 'PERFECT and BEAUTIFUL' she was (like all the other guys she dated so far) drove her CRAAAZYYY!!!
One good example for it, is the 'rich goldilocks' guy she meets at the party and who is all over her!
BLAIR's reaction is full of disgust, and when 'handyman' BLAIR walks in the kitchen and find them 'almost kissing' he says:
Oops! I meant 'handyman' BEN lol!
"Oh sorry, was i interrupting something"
And BLAIR's relief is obvious: "BEN! I'm so happy to see you!"
Wow! Such a romantic scene ha ha ha!;););)
valentina warner 04-03-2020, 08:54 PM I think i'm going to have to agree with 80's...I found the whole movie on you tube just now (will watch the whole thing another time)...but just from the scene where the three of them meet up at the hotel is weird and not true to the characters.
You're absolutely right cfr1970!
The 'REUNION MOVIE 2001' was crap, and i was highly irritated by BLAIR's clone of BOOTSIE!
The acting even looked exaggerated, and none of them bonded the way they did on FOL!:(
MRS G was the only character true to herself in that case!
To make matters worse, their story line lacked dept and the writers got the stories mixed up: they claimed BLAIR was 'embarrassed' of GERI (referring to the episode 'Cousin Geri') when we all know she was simply jealous!
They also got their dates mixed up, when they said the 'Chaggallug' (don't know the spelling) as referring to the episode 'The new girl' when JO was introduced, happened in 1982: wrong cos it was 1980!
So yes: total DISASTER and NAT didn't look her best either! (although saying you look 50 when you're 30 s is a little harsh lol!)
PS: what do you mean a 50 year old guy looks better than a 50 year old woman? (what about our FOL girls?)

I only saw that one scene but I did get the feeling they put this thing together hastily and rushed. It absolutely lacked depth and it just didn't have that old FOL feel to it.
I'm glad to hear that Mrs. G was still true to her character and old self. I found this bit of info on the movie on Mindy Cohn's Wikipedia page and it's telling:
Cohn said that one of the reasons she did The Facts of Life Reunion in 2001 was that the actresses in the long-running 1980s series have been wrongly denied a cut of the syndication and DVD profits from the series. "We all never got paid and still don't get paid for DVDs and reruns ... we felt we were owed."
This makes it seem like they just threw it together for the sake of a paycheck and something they were "owed" as opposed to wanting to revisit the characters for creative reasons or for the fans. Maybe that's why it comes off so badly. :(
And it's hard to believe Blair at 38 is still childless!! In 'Gone with the Wind', she's telling grandpa Ben how upset she was that he wouldn't be ready for a family yet after 2 years, which strongly implies that she planned to be.
And making Jo a cop was also dumb. Why the hell would she do 4 years at Langely only to become a damn cop?! Basically she wasted 4 years when she could've just gone to the police academy.
I'm sure her Mom was real happy to know she slaved away at all those jobs putting her through college for nothing!!

There's a story behind that though. When this movie was made, Nancy was on The Division. It was a popular hit for Lifetime. On that show Nancy played an alcoholic detective. They decided to have Jo resemble the character Nancy was playing now by saying they haven't seen her in a, wait for it, continue to wait for it, LIFETIME  and also used the word division giving shout out to her success on the show. In my mind, she's a successful worker with social services helping others. I ignore everything from the reunion. Bruce and Jeff aren't dead. Snake and Natalie married since he really did love her. Blair is still a headmistress at Eastland. Beverly Ann is with Oliver enjoying her golden years with Edna and Bruce.

I like your version a whole lot better. Maybe I won't even bother watching the rest of the '01 film and just keep your version as the forever ending.
I didn't watch The Division when it was on Lifetime and now I wanna see it. I found a few full episodes on you tube i'm going to watch.

I think that show is on DVD too. I thought about watching it because it has Dean Cain in it. I liked him on Lois & Clark and a few of his movies. He plays a boyfriend of Nancy's in the show. The Division doesn't seem like a show I can get into though. Maybe I'll get bored one of these days and try it out.
valentina warner 04-03-2020, 09:39 PM After all the topic we had on board, I hope that everyone understands now why i dislike the later seasons?
Seeing BLAIR turning a 'clone/caricature' of herself was quite a chock to me while watching season 7, 8 and 9 on YouTube years ago!
I always felt, that out of the core of 4, BLAIR is the one who does mostly the growing: from 'shallow and vain', she comes out of her shell (with a little help from JO and MRS G) and becomes more compassionate and finally let everyone see her true self, 'the girl with the golden heart'!
Whats more: i also hated to see the other 3 girls make fun of her in some of the later episodes (with MRS G longer gone by then), treating her like the 'loser' and 'dumb' and even 'villain'!
The one that comes into my mind is the final episode with MRS G on it (before her departure to Africa) and that must have been the worst ever!
MRS G has a weird dream: she is lying dead in a coffin and her girls are at the church reception mourning.
Suddenly BLAIR stands up and admits she killed MRS G: "Alright i'm the one who killed her! I poisoned her cos I couldn't stand her quiches anymore!"
JO starts to play the piano, and NAT walks over to the coffin to close it and says: "well, i guess that does it!"
MRS G then walks from the dead and yells "i promise never to make any more quiches, but please let me live!"
And then she wakes up for real!!!
What the hell was that all about???
ABSURD is what simply comes into my mind!
The only scene i really like, is the final one with MRS G and her 4 girls, when she walks up to them to give her blessings: she has a moment with each of them and a hug! Such a bittersweet final and i was really sad.....

Out of curiosity, did you see seasons 7 and 8 all the way through? It seems you perceived things in a way that wasn't how it was on the show. Blair was not picked on in seasons 7 and 8. The scene you described happened entirely different. Yes Blair killed her but it was because of her cookies being all round  It was supposed to be a joke. Mrs. Garrett wasn't pleading to let her live. She was torn over going to Africa with Bruce or staying in Peekskill. She wasn't sure if her life had meaning anymore and was shouting, "I have to believe my life did have meaning, I did help people. I did give up myself." As they close the coffin lid on her, she shouts "I have done things. I have! I have!" Then she wakes up.
I'm surprise you find the later years insulting for Blair but seem fine in season 3 where the girls seemed mean to her. Look at Give and Take. They make fun of her for not knowing how to use a cookbook. Natalie even says "Who doesn't know that?" Kids Can Be Cruel showed the three enjoying Blair's dinner box getting bought by Carl and made fun of her. I didn't see anything different between the 4 in seasons 7 and 8 that was already going on from the earlier seasons.

Okay, so i watched the seasons 7, 8 and 9 years ago and on YouTube, so obviously not religiously as the earlier seasons!
And yes: the other girls did make fun of BLAIR in season 3, but maybe because they were kids it seemed more like 'sisterly' (you know like when your younger siblings make fun of you) and also maybe because MRS G was still with them and she sometimes admonished them.
But maybe i should start watching the later years 'religiously' (still on YouTube cos i don't have them on DVD):wave::wave:

The girls stayed the same with each other all the way until season 9. Season 9 they just didn't have that close friendship anymore and were off on their own a lot. One member described it best. They did a wheel format picking which character to do an episode about. Unlike previous years where the girls get involved and help, the girls didn't care what the other was going through. Look at Blair's accident in season 9. There wasn't a whole lot of love from Natalie and Tootie towards Blair. Only Jo went to go see her that night in the hospital room and tried to offer support. Same with A House Divided. The other girls didn't care Natalie and Tootie were letting their boyfriend's hatred for one another ruin their friendship. It was a different aspect in season 9 that just felt so off from what we saw the last 7 years of.
I recommend getting the DVDs. YouTube has only the syndicated prints people recorded from networks so you're gonna miss about 5 minutes or more an episode.
Wawwie 04-03-2020, 11:28 PM Flyman was Michael Damien from Young and the Restless. Seems he did that soap for 30 years and apparently hasn't done anything since 2013. And the world is grateful!!
Michael Damien was good on The Young & the Restless as "Danny Romalotti."
Anyway, I liked this particular FOL episode. I thought "Flyman" was funny when he was singing to Jo at the club!

You're right about season 9: TOOTIE and NAT seemed distant from JO and BLAIR, and they even almost chose their boyfriend over their friendship (i remember thinking how unlike them it was).:(
The only thing i remember liking about season 9 was how BLAIR falls for the social worker who worked with JO (he was so unlike all the other guys she had dated and at first they clashed) but obviously: opposites attracts!
'80sSitcoms 04-04-2020, 12:49 AM I'm surprise you find the later years insulting for Blair but seem fine in season 3 where the girls seemed mean to her.
The cookbook things sounds like "fun" making-fun-of, which is how it usually was with the younger girls. As for Carl, IIRC, only Natalie was having fun there, and that was in a "pulled a joke on ya/serves ya right!" way and not an "I'm making fun of you" way along the lines of "Omg look at her, where'd she get her dress, a thrift store? She might as well wear a feed sack!" [insert cruel laughter] That kind of bully behavior is what I think of when I hear "making fun of".

The way the girls talk to Blair and look at Blair over the cookbook wasn't them having fun. They have a look like she's stupid and the way Tootie reads the book to her was condescending. I'm also surprise Blair didn't know chicken was poultry. She had worked in the kitchen for a year and they never cooked chicken or look through recipe books when doing meals?
There's a scene where Blair and Carl sit down at the table that Natalie, Tootie, and Jo are laughing and taking jokes at Blair. Jo says, "this will be some character builder for the little princess." Instead of being supportive at first, they wanted to laugh at her. That's mean IMO to not just Blair, but Carl as well. I love how Mrs. Garrett describes it best, it's all fun and games until you wake up with a pizza face and it won't be half as funny then.
TV Guy 04-04-2020, 10:41 AM I found this bit of info on the movie on Mindy Cohn's Wikipedia page and it's telling:
Cohn said that one of the reasons she did The Facts of Life Reunion in 2001 was that the actresses in the long-running 1980s series have been wrongly denied a cut of the syndication and DVD profits from the series. "We all never got paid and still don't get paid for DVDs and reruns ... we felt we were owed."
Sad to say, most actors back then had residuals which didn’t last long, and rarely got a piece of the “back-end” (syndication, cable, and DVD revenue). Only the biggest of the big stars like Alan Alda, Carroll O’Connor, and Larry Hagman got back-end percentages. Women rarely did - and it was generally when they owned their own shows as Lucille Ball, Carol Burnett, and Donna Reed did. This was the reason Suzanne Somers went on strike from “Three’s Company” - she knew it was going to make a ton of money in syndication, and wanted a piece of it.

I never understood why they had to fight for that. I mean, if it weren't for those actors on the screen, nobody would've kept tuning in to make those shows hits! They were the REASON people watched, and it just shows the greed of Hollywood. It's really sad the FOL cast still gets nothing when the show plays or from DVD sales. :(
I hope it's not that way now...but since I don't watch anything made after 2000 on TV, I guess I really don't care one way or the other. If it wasn't made in the 20th century, I have no use for it.

Still sounds more like kind of "sibling behavior" to me. And maybe Blair just coincidentally never cooked chicken herself up to that point.

Well, she does have a point there.
Instead of being supportive at first, they wanted to laugh at her.
To me Jo and Tootie were pulled in on the "practical joke" angle of it on perfect Blair.
I love when Mrs. Garrett sticks it to Natalie in the kitchen. This is one of my biggest "anti-Natalie" episodes. The leaked secret didn't merit the level of revenge she went to IMO.

That really is amazing. Makes you wonder if they knew this when they went on all those group interviews to promote the series coming to DVD? Or if they did know, maybe they asked for a nice hefty price tag to appear to promote it.

If so, I hope they got it. When I Googles Kim Fields to search for her book, her net worth popped up on the side bar and said $8 Million...so she's living comfortably which is nice to know.

Even you children have to admit 21st century television sucks donkey balls! And most everything they try to be original with these days is just a lame rehash of what's already been done better in the 20th century.

I absolutely agree with you 80sSitcom on that one!
JO, NAT and TOOTIE's behaviour towards BLAIR was more like a 'sibling/rivalry' one (rather than nasty): it was obvious that NAT was looking for revenge after being mocked by BLAIR, TOOTIE was clearly chocked that an older girl didn't know the difference between poultry/chicken, and JO was simply enjoying seeing the 'spoiled little princess' having a date with a nerd!
MRS G of course was just being the adult role model: she 'sticks it to NAT' as you wrote, and when she says "i'v been observing you lately kids, and sometimes you're worse than piranhas!" you can clearly see the remorse in the girls face!
NAT: "all that guilt!":lol::lol::lol:
