View Full Version : SISTERS
valentina warner 03-30-2020, 02:51 PM Another episode that i almost forgot i quite enjoyed in the season 6 is:
'SISTERS'!
I love the fact that you see a new perception on BLAIR and JO's relationship as siblings ha ha!
It also make their bond stronger and the ending is sweet! (although i would have really loved it had they really become 'sisters'!)
And i'm not saying anymore cos i don't wanna spoil the episode for cfr1970! (in case you haven't watched it yet):lol::lol:

That one airs on Friday. I just peeked at the episode guide and it says "A budding romance develops between Blair's mother and Jo's father."
I don't remember this one and can't wait to see it. That looks like a lot of fun. And the 2 part "Gone With the Wind" airs Thursday for a full hour! Yay!..I'm glad they didn't break it up that one part airs Thursday and the other Friday.

That was AGONY as a kid watching this show's cafeteria years in daily syndication: I had to wait a WHOLE DAY to find out what happened in a continued episode!

RetroGuy2000 03-30-2020, 11:29 PM What was even worse is when the new episodes would air, with the first of a two-part episode airing one week, and the second episode not airing until the following wee-- oh no! Pre-empted by a basketball game!
WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT, NETWORK!? WHY?!
cfr1970 03-30-2020, 11:33 PM Yes! It was AGONY, I say, AGONY!

Ha! I just said the same thing before seeing your post. I swear that was pure torture for a kid. Many 70's shows pulled that "to be continued" crap and waiting a week to a kid is a freaking lifetime!!
You 80's kids had it easy getting all that in daily syndication while we had to suffer!!

Kids these days have no idea what a real cliffhanger feels like. Not with networks always airing 2 eps of shows a day, or with their streaming devices online. Nope we had real TV struggles. You think we could rewind a tv show in the old days? No sir! Kids have it so easy! :grr::lol:

That's nothing! In my day, we only had one channel: Channel One! The dial hadn't been invented yet, so we had to paint the number 1 on the area where the dial would be. And the schedule! It was two hours of Texaco Cavalcade of Star Band Theater, followed by six hours of Ford Cinema Playhouse Camera Show. Those Foy kids sure could hoof it on stage! The receivers of the day only had four lines of resolution, so we couldn't tell Madeline from Irving, but we liked it that way. You kids and your fancy three networks! And that VCR witchery! :grr:

I'm old enough to remember this! In fact just on yesterday's FOL they had an exact example of it too. Tootie tells Andy "The Wizard of Oz is on TV tonight!"...Like it was a big thing....
And back then it actually WAS! They'd only show those big movies on TV once a year that it was an EVENT! I remember my Mom calling out the window at us kids to come in because so and so movie was starting, and if we missed it, who the hell knew when it would show again. Oh the hardships we endured!
It seems so archaic now with everything literally at the press of a button!
valentina warner 03-31-2020, 03:31 PM I remember back in the 80 s that every time i watched a soap opera and they were about to speak or kiss, the adverts would come INTERRUPTING the final moment!!!!
Or, when you were about to find out a TRUTH about something, it was the end of the episode and you had to wait until the next day to continue watching boohoo!!!!

Only---I don't know of any other movie that came on as a once-a-year event except WoO (maybe "It's a Wonderful Life" did, but I never saw it until I tried it once in college).

I didn't watch Dynasty, but I did watch Melrose Place. The BIGGEST cliffhanger was wondering all summer "Did Kimberly really blow up Melrose Place?!?!?!?!" This was right when the Oklahoma City bombing happened and they cut the aftermath of when Kimberly presses the button. Melrose Place was so hot in the 90's. I miss that type of television.

How the hell did I forget that?! YES! YES! YES! The summer of 1995 was HELL waiting for that to show to resume. My friends thought I was a lunatic because I was so obsessed over it lol
The way it ended in May where Kimberly says "It's worse!", presses the bomb button, and screen goes black was a heart attack for fans!! I think that cliffhanger topped everything that came before on any show.
I remember reading they were going to originally show the explosion in May, but when the OK City bombing happened they decided to just make the screen go black and I think that only made the cliffhanger even better!
Melrose Place was great in the mid 90's and I never missed an episode. I wouldn't even make plans for Monday nights specifically because it was on.

Remember the tagline, "Monday's are a bitch" Kimberly was exciting to watch. I don't think I've ever seen a show before where a character breast feeds another woman's baby, blows up an apartment complex, becomes a psychiatrist after all that, then gains multiple personalities locking a sane doctor up in a mental hospital to do a lobotomy :rotflmao: She should have had her own show

I remember that tagline so clearly too. The first time I saw it was summer of '94 at a bus stop---a big poster with a picture of Heather Locklear on it with "Mondays are a bitch" tagline at the bottom.
Kimberly was by far the best thing about that show, but they really went too far with her to the point where it was just impossible to continue having this madwoman still walking around free in society.
I mean, soon after she blew up a freaking apartment building, she was hosting a damn radio station?! WTF?!...Just...HOW?!

Actually no, but she was so crazy I can picture her doing that. What was her reason to burn her wrist with a waffle iron? I'm getting a hazy picture of it now in my head. I'm thinking she had one of those home monitors around her wrist and that was how she got it off? God, it was 25 years ago this spring when the blowup cliffhanger happened! A quarter of a century!
Now I gotta go and Google "Kimberly Shaw waffle iron"
Found it and YES I seem to have a great memory!! It WAS a house arrest monitor!!

Dear Lord. Let’s not ruin this wonderful trip down memory lane by pointing out how many years it’s been  sometime ago is fine by referencing things ;)
Yeah she didn’t burn her hand, she broke it to get the monitor off. That’s how she got to go on the radio show. I remember yelling at the screen “NO!!” And then asking my grandmother why is this listed as a prime time soap and not a horror show? one critic in a documentary describes Kimberly best as a franken-bitch

House arrest for blowing up an apartment building and blinding one of it's tenants! Only in soap land! Did anyone die from that explosion? Now I want to see that series again....it's been.....sometime ago since i've seen it.:lol:
TV Guy 04-01-2020, 11:46 AM Melrose Place is on CBS All Access. The second and third years are a lot of fun, then it goes off the rails with Kimberly’s antics going completely over the top. Also, they just ran out of story. They burned through story lines at least three times as fast as traditional nighttime soaps. So by year four, you could already see them getting desperate, and trying for bigger and bigger shocks to surprise you. And those shocks were less and less shocking.
The best was Kimberly coming back from the dead and watching her husband from outside the beach house as the episode ended. That was great and unexpected.

Chandler
Joey

Rachel
Ross (he was a complete and utter buffoon)

90210, Melrose and Ally I watched religiously! I never "got" the Baywatch appeal---a bunch of cheesecake and beefcake models running half naked on beaches in slow motion just never did it for me.

I liked the finale of season 4 when Richard's hand shots out of the ground revealing Jane and Sydney buried him alive. The first few episodes of season 5 were entertaining because of him. I thought the show was good until both Kimberly and Sydney were killed off. And don't even get me started on that lame reboot series The CW did. They bring Sydney back from the dead just to kill her off again. So stupid and cruel to Sydney fans.

Chandler is my favorite. Him and Monica together made me a fan when I saw reruns of season 5 back in 2000. After Chandler and Monica, there's no order between Joey, Phoebe, and Rachel. Ross is not a favorite at all for me. I can't stand him and stopped watching because he was too much. I can't believe David thought he deserved to earn a million dollars for his acting. He sure bent NBC over for the fools they were IMO

Tiffani was a perfect replacement to fill the hole left when Shannen departed. I can even go as far as saying I preferred her character over Brenda. She made the viewer forget Brenda was ever there. Same here. I still have a 42" TV bought way back in 2008 but still works great so I say why bother with a new one? And I see these new ones in the stores with screens that look so shiny you can see everything reflected in them like a mirror. The older tv's aren't like that. I don't want to see the whole room reflected in the tv when i'm watching something like you did on those old glass tube TV's!

I still have the same 36-inch "tube" TV I bought about 20 years ago (20!). It works, BUT, the color is washing out, and the pixelation is blurring (reading the "guide" on the screen takes some squinting and focusing, lol). So I'm definitely ready for a new unit!

Get a new flatscreen sucker!
I wish I had already, before all the stores had to close! :( I mean I know I can get one online (I'd thought I'd get one at Best Buy here), but I wanna browse 'em in person. Or maybe Walmart might have one I like, I dunno.

Yeah we're prob not gonna be able to buy new appliances for some time.
valentina warner 04-02-2020, 03:33 PM You guys crack me up! How come your TVs last so long? (i had to changed them regularly like my phone for one reason or the other).
My laptop on the other hand is over 10 years old: i bought it on a second hand shop in 2011, so it must be certainly older than that, it has a mega screen and you can use it to watch DVDs too (unlike the new ones that apparently look very slim).
My dad is always saying that my laptop is as heavy as a coffin lol!
