The producers must've done that because it's scenic and comforting. And the music was just FANTASTIC! Gilligan's Island has the best music in episode of ANY show in TV history PERIOD!

Apparently, the "lagoon" was right next to an LA freeway. Scenes filmed there had to be done when traffic was light, otherwise the noise would have been picked up when filming.
