View Full Version : What's the most ridiculous thing you've ever seen in a sitcom?
DJM77 10-15-2019, 07:55 PM I recall an episode of Alice where some muscle men lift an entire wall of Mel's Diner off of the ground. That would probably be it for me.
Second for me would probably be any episode of a sitcom where a character is involved in a look alike contest of the actor that the character is played by.
Bonniegirl 10-15-2019, 09:32 PM Well, Arnold Ziffel was pretty goofy, with the whole town treating him like a person. It's amazing that they were able to sustain that for six years.
It was really silly, but Arnold was so cute! :)The whole show had a lot of ridiculousness in it, but it was really hilarious!
One of the most ridiculous plot lines in a sitcom that comes to mind is drab, frumpy Eva Grubb on Gilligan's Island, after a makeover turning out looking EXACTLY like Ginger Grant!!:D
Edward216 10-15-2019, 11:44 PM Well not ridiculous exactly but it is odd to me. Houses that have two stairways going up to the second floor of the house. I know the Tanners' house on Full House was like that and if I remember so was the Seavers' house on Growing Pains. There's probably some more sitcoms that had a house like that too but those are the two I can think of right now. I'm not saying there aren't any houses that are like that but I know I've never been in a two story house that had 2 stairways going up to the second story (they've all had just one including my family's house when I was growing up) so I can't imagine that it's that common but I don't know.

a lot of big, older homes have a second staircase in the back of the house because when the house was built they put in a second set of stairs for the servants if there were any.
treky 10-16-2019, 12:09 AM when the Cunninghams on HAPPY DAYS suddenly got a different house with no explanation.

Yeah , totally! I grew up in a house with front stairs and back stairs ! :)As were most of the houses in my neighborhood. Most bigger old houses have front and back stairs I always thought? ;)

That was done in Sanford & Son. Very silly.

Even more odd is a house that didn't have a second stair, suddenly has one. Like the last season or two of Bewitched.

This always baffles me whenever I see it. It's not even practical for the size of the kitchen to plop a staircase right in the middle of it when the main staircase is only a few feet away.
It's not like that extra staircase made anything more convenient for them...especially when Sam could just twitch and be up or downstairs in a half second.
It seems each season they drastically changed the decor of that kitchen.

The Doris Day Show did it too, but I thought it was done pretty good.
Mork & Mindy did it also but I thought that was silly.
I can't think of any more, but i'm sure there are.
"Laugh-In" wasn't a sitcom, but for pure weirdness, I doubt anything can top this, not even Tiny Tim:

Oh yeah, the guy who worked at the gas station. I think his name was Albert. Very dumb.
Tubehead 10-17-2019, 07:22 PM another show i would add is the patty duke show!! me & my mom watched it for while! but she hears something then she does something about it & she gets into trouble!! but only if she talked to her dad!! that she wouldn't get into trouble!!

One of the reasons for a change in the kitchen decor at one point was because there was an actual fire that destroyed part of the Bewitched set.
stevea 10-17-2019, 08:58 PM Yep, that studio fire gave some ambitious art person the green light (I guess) to make a major change with the kitchen. They expanded it and for some reason added the stairs.

Oh yeah I remember that episode.
