They were desperate to try & keep Cindy “Little Cindy” by this point, but she was wearing braces & well into puberty. Cousin Oliver appeared shortly thereafter.

Wasn't that after Oliver arrived? I thought he was in that episode.

I never really thought about how embarrassing that must have been. It must have been tough on Natalie Shaffer to keep a straight face while Cindy sang Lollipop.

This is akin to what they did to around 12 year old Jerry Mathers on the fifth season of Leave It To Beaver--making him dress up as a bunny rabbit for a school play.

The Snooperstar episode 1974, yes your right, Robbie Rist is listed as part of the cast. Season 5, they were at the end of the show practically. They were trying anything to resuscitate the show. Little did they know what they had in future syndication!

Gilligan’s Island was a memory, Sherwood must’ve called Natalie & said “Natalie dear, could you stop by Paramount & do a cute little number with our little Shirley?”

My god. Poor Susan. She was twelve, here.

Many of the final episodes are cult classic “bad episodes we love to hate”— The Shirley Temple episode ranks quite high in this category. Be honest, who runs to the television when this airs?

It was embarrassing and all, but if that’s the worst thing in her life, then she’s lived a pretty good life.

Think of poor Anissa Jones on “Family Affair”. She was 13 years old in the last season, and they were saying she was eight years old, dressing her in little girl dresses and having her play with dolls.

I loved Family Affair! Another show that did not age well, meaning that the late seasons were constantly trying to rekindle the lost “cuteness” of their truly adorable child stars. Anissa was a doll. Too bad they didn’t take the same approach with Cissy, they should’ve kept her the way she originally appeared instead of giving her the short coiffed petulant look/attitude.

I just saw it again on MeTV, poor girl, she truly has a pained look throughout the episode

It's pretty bad. It could not have been fun at school for her. It was 1974 and this is what Sherwood was doing on his TV show. He was completely out of touch. What teen at the time would ever find this cool?

Poor Anissa Jones had to lie about her age. Have you ever seen her appearance on the Dick Cavett show and Dick tries to get her to admit her real age. She didnt do it but it was still bad.

I did not see her on Dick Cavett, but I did see the “The E True Hollywood Story Anissa Jones”...such a tragic story 😨

A theory has been put forth in the past that the Shirley Temple episode was probably written for an earlier season, but rejected at the time.

I've never heard that confirmed or denied by anyone involved with the show, but it probably makes more sense than anything. The writers had a mental block on episodes so they pulled this one off of the scrap heap

Yeah I have heard it was written for season 1 I believe. By season 5 it was stupid and unrealistic because a 12 year old is much different than a 5 year old.

They were wrapping up the show, SS probably just said, “Pull that old Shirley Temple script out of mothballs, we can save a huge writer’s fee” then he said “Get ahold of Natalie, page me” then instructed wardrobe “Throw together a Shirley Temple costume for Susan, & have hairdressers perm her quick, quick”

I am watching the last season of the Brady Bunch and it's too bad they were still having Susan wear pigtails. Everyone was allowed to have normal hair but her.

Susan was quoted as saying something along the lines of “This wouldn’t have been bad four years ago.”

As some of you probably know, this show is available to watch on Hulu. However, some episodes are missing. The same holds true for the "Odd Couple". I never received an explanation as to why some episodes are omitted. One thing that could factor in is that this episode features a guest star. Maybe the company did not get permission to broadcast an episode featuring this late actress. I would be very interested in hearing from anyone who knows anything about the rhyme and reason as to why this episode and various others are not on Hulu.

Maybe music rights to the "Goodship Lollipop" is why it is not on Hulu. Just a guess.

Yep, episodes were missing when it was on Prime, and the same ones missing on CBS All Access.

Good guess, IMO! Esp. if the other missing episodes are ones where the kids are singing, or the one with that wretched Davy Jones song.

Unfortunately when the music rights were negotiated, they never dreamed of streaming. We're fortunate all the music is intact on the DVDs.

I am watching the very last episodes of season 5 . The Shirley temple episode aired and you had to feel sorry for Susan. But at least they let Cindy let her hair down. The pig tails are gone but now she has to hang out with Oliver. He was horrible. At least the little kid on Partridge Family was only on for 5 min.

It would be interesting to see what would have happened if the show had continued a season or two more. Hopefully Oliver would be gone. They would have to get Cindy to mature because even here she is very immature. She is not snitching anymore but now it's reading diaries. Susan said she is thankful we didn't have to witness Cindy's first etc. Lol

I am sure he was probably less annoying in real life than he was on the show.

I don't think this episode would have worked in season 1 as someone mentioned. Cindy was too young and could barely read let alone understand what's in a diary. I could be in the minority but I thought as crazy as it was, it worked. Cindy was at the age of curiousity of her older sisters and read her sister's diary. This was the second time Cindy messed with Marcia's diary (in season#1 she gave it away).
This is one of my favorite episodes. I love it when the kids prank their siblings just like in the Fright Night episode. Its so silly that its fun.

He could be a serial killer and still be less annoying than he was on the show.
