Bonniegirl 07-21-2019, 06:14 PM I guess Gilligan's Island and Bewitched . Steve_uk 07-21-2019, 06:37 PM I remember watching the Beverly Hillbillies in the 1960s on a black and white television set. We didn't watch in colour until 1974. Bonniegirl 07-21-2019, 07:05 PM I remember watching the Beverly Hillbillies in the 1960s on a black and white television set. Heenan Fan 07-21-2019, 08:29 PM Happy Days, Fonzie jumped the shark episode. 1960'sTVfan 07-21-2019, 08:35 PM I don't remember anymore what was the first sitcom I ever watched, but I do remember watching repeats of The Honeymooners classic 39 episodes in the early 1970's when I lived in Chicago. WFLD-TV ran The Honeymooners during that time. That was probably the first sitcom I watched on a regular basis. I was also into Get Smart in the early 1970's, I think WSNS-TV ran repeats of those episodes during that time. I now have the complete series of Get Smart on DVD, it's been over 10 years ago already since that came out. I also have The Honeymooners classic 39 on 13 VHS tapes, these were issued in 1988 by Columbia House. I was born 25 years too late :wave: Mr. Television 07-21-2019, 09:29 PM Don't really remember. I know I watched the Beverly Hillbillies, and Green Acres when they originally aired at least their later seasons. Remember watching the Lucy Show weekday mornings. 1960'sTVfan 07-21-2019, 09:48 PM Don't really remember. I know I watched the Beverly Hillbillies, and Green Acres when they originally aired at least their later seasons. Remember watching the Lucy Show weekday mornings. Yep I can remember CBS running repeats of The Lucy Show on weekday mornings. I think they ran repeats of Family Affair also. And maybe The Doris Day Show too. Bonniegirl 07-21-2019, 10:05 PM Yep I can remember CBS running repeats of The Lucy Show on weekday mornings. I think they ran repeats of Family Affair also. And maybe The Doris Day Show too. Yep! I remember watching The Lucy show, Family affair and they alternated between My three Sons and Beverly Hillbillies ( if I remember correctly, because I preferred My three Sons) on weekday mornings ! :)I totally remember this in the summer mornings ( or if I was out sick from school ) in the early 70's or even late 60's still? !! I'm not really recalling the Doris day show though in that weekday morning rerun lineup? Mr. Television 07-21-2019, 10:11 PM Yep I can remember CBS running repeats of The Lucy Show on weekday mornings. If my memory is correct, The Doris Day Show was part of that lineup too. Was it the fall of 1972 when CBS discontinued the weekday morning block of sitcom repeats? I seem to recall that the sitcom block went away in September 1972 and replaced with a game show block with The Price Is Right and other game shows. Yes, probably !;) I would have just turned 10 that summer of 72 , I think I was a little younger than that when I watched Lucy, My Three Sons/Beverly Hillbillies and Family Affair on those summer mornings!! ;) Such a good memory ! The smell of coffee and toast in the house in the morning and not having to go to school and watching this cool lineup on TV!!:) icecream 07-22-2019, 01:51 AM The first sitcom I remember watching was Home Improvement, although that would not be the first sitcom I saw. My mom has mentioned that ALF was my favorite show when I was really young. I don't remember watching it then, but did like ALF decades later when it was part of WGN's classics block. Other sitcoms I remember liking at an early age were Frasier and Boy Meets World when they came to syndication, and classics like I Love Lucy and The Brady Bunch when we were on vacation with cable access. (My parents have cable now but didn't when I was a child and teenager.) I Love Lucy is still great, but The Brady Bunch doesn't appeal to me much now. mandyrenee 07-22-2019, 02:28 PM Happy Days, Fonzie jumped the shark episode. LOL! Surely not. MA 07-22-2019, 03:38 PM Saved By The Bell dakert 07-22-2019, 04:38 PM The first sitcom I remember watching was All In The Family when it first aired but the first show I remember seeing was Gentle Ben Schmoopie 07-22-2019, 04:49 PM Oh wow, probably Leave it To Beaver. I don't really remember but I remember watching that with my parents back in the 70's. Everything from 67-mid 70's is a little fuzzy since I was born in 67! 1960'sTVfan 07-22-2019, 05:45 PM The first sitcom I remember watching was All In The Family when it first aired but the first show I remember seeing was Gentle Ben I have both seasons of Gentle Ben on DVD, I was surprised when CBS DVD released those. Nice series to have on DVD, comfort TV from the late 1960's era. CosmicCharlie 07-22-2019, 06:56 PM Leave it to Beaver the one where he's stuck in the tea cup I was amazed ! about 5 years old LOL Torgo 07-22-2019, 08:35 PM Leave it to Beaver the one where he's stuck in the tea cup I was amazed ! about 5 years old LOL Not the first sitcom I watched, but that is the first Leave It To Beaver episode I watched. Heenan Fan 07-22-2019, 10:53 PM LOL! Surely not. True story. I was 3 years old, remember it fairly well, too. I wasn't allowed to watch TV at the time, other than cartoons and educational programs. I talked my mom into letting me watch it because I was obsessed with sharks, so she gave in. I thought TV shows were real at the time. I was terrified this dude wearing a black leather jacket on the water was gonna get eaten by a shark in front of me. mandyrenee 07-22-2019, 11:29 PM True story. I had actually thought you were joking since I made a reference to that same episode in another thread. Looks like I guessed wrong. Dale Key 07-26-2019, 11:15 AM Probably The Cosby Show. My sister had the repeats on but I would play with my toys instead of pay attention to it. Nickelodeon was what I started watching on my own and then Nick at Nite after 8 pm, so I Love Lucy was the first one I got into myself. RetroGuy2000 07-26-2019, 02:26 PM Around 1978, I was watching Happy Days with my mom; that's the first sitcom I really remember watching. There was a Halloween episode which was really scary for a four-year-old. I'm sure we also must have watched Laverne and Shirley. Other shows I watched around that time (not sitcoms) included Land of the Lost, HR Pufnstuf, Sesame Street, Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, Pink Panther cartoons, and The Muppet Show. treky 07-27-2019, 02:51 AM I remember YEARS ago (don't ask how old I am!) in the early 60s watching a rerun of "I LOVE LUCY" on a weekday morning during the summer. I don't remember if it was on a local channel or CBS or what...all I can remember is looking at the screen and seeing Ricky walking out of their bedroom in a daze wearing his pajamas and start to walk across the living room while the audience was laughing. howierules86 12-12-2025, 08:28 PM Yes, probably !;) I would have just turned 10 that summer of 72 , I think I was a little younger than that when I watched Lucy, My Three Sons/Beverly Hillbillies and Family Affair on those summer mornings!! ;) Such a good memory ! The smell of coffee and toast in the house in the morning and not having to go to school and watching this cool lineup on TV!!:) Here's a site that might help you remember what daytime TV shows were on the broadcast networks every year: https://www.daytimetvarchive.com howierules86 12-12-2025, 09:29 PM As for the question itself, Pee-Wee's Playhouse was my first favorite show growing up, but if that's not considered a sitcom, then I'll say either ALF or one of the ABC TGIF shows. Alan Brady's Hair 12-12-2025, 09:45 PM I remember watching Dobie Gillis. It was the only show the whole family would watch, because our teens would give half an hour to see what Maynard G. Krebs was doing. Bonniegirl 12-13-2025, 03:33 AM I would say Gilligan's Island and The Patty Duke show ThisLittlePiggy 12-13-2025, 06:27 PM Gilligan's Island Edward216 12-15-2025, 12:51 AM I was born in 1969 so it's hard so say I've watched TV ever since I can remember. But some of my earliest memories of watching sitcoms are All In The Family, M.A.S.H., and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Ed. KentB3 12-15-2025, 07:09 PM I have no idea what the first sitcom I ever watched was, but the first one I have any memory of was Happy Days (I was born in 1973). |
