That needs to be the twist of the series finale somehow.

Unfortunately the series ended and we never knew who the video journals were for.

Yeah, it was a total cop out. People invest 11 years waiting to find out who they were talking too and no pay off. LAME!

They were obviously talking to us, the TV audience. It's supposed to be a pretend documentary or mockumentary.

If you watch the first episode, you'll notice Dylan look nervously at the camera. In Survivor, the contestants talk to the audience. That is all they are doing in Modern Family.
