View Full Version : Should Nick@Nite go back to old classic or be removed completely
tenter 06-08-2019, 05:26 PM Should N@N completely remove from Nick, or will N@N go back to classics?
I know I said they're not going back to classics because we're already in this late 2010s decade, and about to go to 2020's decade. But maybe I would like to hear others opinion on this even if not real, or likely. Its ok
Merry24 06-09-2019, 01:42 AM I would love if NICK at NITE Returned to a Classic TV Network again and was not off the clock.
I work 2nd shift and when I get home I want to see classic Sitcoms. Especially from the 1950’s & 1960’s & 1970’s. Antenna TV only does Saturday Nights. Me TV doesn’t show any Sitcoms past 12AM.
In addition Classic Sitcoms would carry the Nickelodeon audience into All NITE. Plus having the adults watched who grew up humming watching the tapping feet of My Three Sons or Donna Reed saying dinner in 5 minutes! Or Dennis the Menace bugging Mr. Wilson or Looking for Car 54, Where Are You? Or thinking what Dobbie Gillis is thinking. Or Making Room For Daddy or Socking It To me or seeing something very interesting/ or rinngy dinngy on Laugh-In or The Monkee’s always Monkeying around. Or listening to a talking horse (Mister Ed) or dog (Lassie). Or looking at the back of Patty Dukes head or fantasizing what life would be like living with The Brady Bunch!
The reason why the current nick@niTe isn’t doing so well is audience changes 8pm-10pm is usually a movie kids oriented. Or Full House that both can watch together. However Since Full House has been Back there hasn’t been any promotion for it? The 10pm-11pm Hour the audience is either kids for a Movie or Adult Themed with FRIENDS. Sometimes it’s Viacom promoting its adult themed show. With Classic TV Sitcoms both kids & adults can enjoy anytime of the NITE!
Classic Sitcoms especially from 1950’s & 1960’s & 1970’s would cater to the NEW kids of NICKELODEON and there parents who grew up watching Lucy & Dick Van Dyke & Mary Tyler Moore & Bob Newhart & Fonzie & Laverne & Shirley & Bewitched & The Munsters & Andy Griffith & Beaver Clever! Including NICK at NITE Trixie & Adventures with the Milkman & someone running in setting up a place watching NICK at NITE and something strange happens or Classic TV Rewinds or Summer Block Parties & New Years Classic TV countdown jingles and promos that made you look forward to commercials on NICK at NITE!!!
AMackII 06-10-2019, 07:25 AM Hopefully, Nick at Nite should back to where it was prior to mid-2000s, especially in honor of the block’s 35th Anniversary in 2020.
Schmoopie 06-10-2019, 10:02 AM Even though there are other Classic TV show stations like Me-TV and Antenna TV, I think that Nickelodeon would benefit from airing old shows and by old I mean like Dobie Gillis and so forth. I love that Nickelodeon introduced me to some great series.
theoneandonlytvqueen 06-10-2019, 04:00 PM yes, i would enjoy that. i remember many years ago 15-20 yearsmaybe when they would have themeed nights like bewitched bewednesdays. and jeanniefridays. anyone rememebr the nick & nite game
Crusinforabrusin 06-12-2019, 01:11 PM You have Metv, Antenna TV, Cozi TV and so forth
You have DVD's
You have Hulu and Netflix
I don't see a need for Nick to go back to what it originally was, when you have so many other options to watch classic series
Merry24 06-12-2019, 01:50 PM I understand but nickelodeon is a “Kids” network and to hold onto the audience you still want to hold onto your current audience “Kids”, in addition continue adding to that audience. Classic TV Sitcoms is what would be watchable to kids & adults.
I know here we don’t get Cozi. Antenna TV currently only airs 50’s & 60’s Sitcoms Saturday Nights. Currently Me TV doesn’t air Sitcoms after 12AM. Hulu & Netflix it’s hard to sleep with a digital advise in your hand lol!
In addition the current nick@niTe is struggling.
tenter 06-12-2019, 03:29 PM I guess I didn't realize then that classic 50s and 60s sitcoms are watched by most kids and adults. The current shows N@N currently airs were not meant to be watched by kids. The exception is Full House which is watched by kids and adults.
Other than that, I just don't see the point of N@N keeping if it's still struggling to get better family shows..
Merry24 06-13-2019, 12:22 AM The problem is nick@niTe wants to air modern Programming. Besides Full House there isn’t any innocent modern Family programming.
Classic Family Programming from the 1950’s & 1960’s and some select ones from the 1970’s was innocent Family Programming.
Therefore nick@niTe is stuck. Unless they welcome the Sitcoms home to NICK at NITE from the 1950’s & 1960’s and selected ones from the 1970’s. Than they can open up the door to some different programming selections.
If I Were NICK at NITE. I would continue to air the movies. If the ratings are good air a New Nickelodeon show encore again. Still hold onto Full House. Although I would definitely replace FRIENDS & Mom & The King Of Queens with Family Sitcoms from the 1950’s & or 1960’s and selected ones from the 1970’s.

Since they probably wouldnt be able to get rights since most rights are taking by other networks, I would sadly say do a way with Nick and Nite and maybe add game shows of the old days, like Legends and Guts and Global Guts.
I got Pluto TV for Free and they have way better shows on Sitcoms Channel, like Bewitched, Dennis the Menace and The Lucy Show, and Dick Van Dyke, I just wish they had Flipper still, I wish that didn't leave. By the way they Have Little Rascals and Marx Brothers on there too. I'm content with that and Hulu has good shows especially Thank God It Friday shows from ABC, Perfect Strangers and Family Matters, Hanging with Mr. Cooper and Step By Step. So it keeps me busy.
mikey0581 06-29-2019, 10:50 PM yes, i would enjoy that. i remember many years ago 15-20 yearsmaybe when they would have themeed nights like bewitched bewednesdays. and jeanniefridays. anyone rememebr the nick & nite game
I got that game, its fun to play, brings back memories. And I miss Lucy Tuesdays and Bewitched Bewednesdays. Good times.
tenter 06-29-2019, 11:27 PM Honestly I couldn't agree more. N@N deserved to be removed because nothing is good anymore. And with Nickelodeon shows airing on N@N like Paw Patrol, Blaze (one time), SpongeBob (used to before), All That, Are You Smarter, Double Dare 2018 version last year.
Why even bother keeping 6AM hour and 9PM hour if N@N doesn't have any shows to air except only Nick shows?

Almost forgot:
I don't think the rights for other networks has anything to do with it, King of Queens also air on TVLand (another Viacom network) shared rights with Nick@Nite as well. TBS also airs that show too.
Also, they formerly did those with Everybody Loves Raymond on Nick@Nite from Jan 2015-Aug 2015 even though TVLand then aired it too. They have shared rights. But for N@N it didn't last long. TVLand still continues to air it as well as TBS

I meant like older shows like father knows best and I love lucy or Patty Duke, family shows people said would be good for Nick at Nite, I'm not sure with Decades and Antenna TV having those that would affect them getting them back.
tenter 09-21-2019, 05:17 PM any other takers?
Crusinforabrusin2.5 09-22-2019, 03:00 PM Everyone is living in the past. Nick@Nite went downhill a while ago. With Digital Subchannels, DVDs, and streaming, I see no need for Nick@Nite to go back to showing older programs.
Remember, no one is making you watch the current Nick@Nite. You can find most older shows on Subchannels and DVDs.
I moved on from Nick@Nite and so should everyone else. They're never going back to what they use to be, so there is no point in complaining about it.
Impressions 09-22-2019, 11:11 PM None of the above. Leave it be.
Classic TV on Nick at Nite? That ship has sailed. Y'all need to move on. There's plenty of alternative ways to get your classic TV fix. Most of them have already mentioned.
I don't even pay attention to Nick at Nite anymore because it's not even remotely close to the way it originally was and it won't ever live up to its original classic TV purpose ever again.
Schmoopie 09-23-2019, 04:59 AM Like I said before I would love it if Nick At Nite went back to showing the old shows like Dobie Gillis, Donna Reed, Mr. Ed, Leave it to Beaver, etc. Nickelodeon called their nighttime segments Nick at Nite, which I know everyone here knows but that's when I watched it the most. At the time I think I was in high school or junior high and my brother was 10 1/2 years younger than me. He loved the station and watched it all day long but we would watch it at night together. I loved the old shows and had never heard of Dobie Gillis or Mr. Ed before so it was a nice introduction. Yes, there are several classic TV stations these days but it would boost Nicholodan's ratings if they did a block of shows like they used to. I think they started around 7 and went till 10 and then they woudl rerun them again late at night. Or they could start it at midnight and go till 5. Most everyone has DVRs these days and could tape the old shows. I would. I tape a lot of old shows off of TV.
BigManMike 09-23-2019, 07:36 AM I gave up on Nick at Nite a long time ago. It will never be classic TV again. That’s just wishful thinking. I agree with the above posters that it’s time to move on. It was nice when it did show older programs but that’s a thing of the distant past now. There are plenty of other ways to watch these older shows nowadays.
Duster76 09-23-2019, 02:08 PM I've said this before, N@N didn't leave you, you left N@N. The programming at night was themed towards the parents of the children watching Nickelodeon during the dayparts. Those parents in 1985 were around 30 years old, born around 1955, midway point of the babyboomer generation. This of course is right in the center of the advertisers happy zone. But that was then, this is now, that same individual is 64. The kids watching Nickelodeon in 1985 are now the parents, and the tv viewing experience of their youth was a much different one.
1960'sTVfan 09-23-2019, 03:01 PM I agree with others who say that Nick at Nite will never go back to what it used to be, that ship has long ago sailed.
For several reasons, I seldom watch any of the retro channels now. Often times, shows are edited or time compressed, and some of these channels now telecast in widescreen, it's all no good.
I have DVD's of most of my favorite old shows and watch those instead of the retro channels. Most of the DVD's in my collection have uncut versions of the episodes, which is exactly what I like.
While I know it'll never return to what it used to be. I said bring back Nick @ Nite how it used to be. I'd pretty much make it a cable TV hybrid of Antenna TV and Decades. With weekends being marathons of 50's and 60's shows.
Steve Winslow 06-06-2020, 06:36 PM First they should just stop playing 4-5 hours of the same show every night, I mean who wants to watch Friends for 5 hours, especially when it's already on TBS all day long. Then they should stop airing shows that are still making new episodes (Mom) and they should actually try to air shows that aren't aired on 5 other networks, rather than just taking a show from TV Land only to trade it for another show in 5 months. Full House and George Lopez are only on Nick@Nite but they're on when most people are sleeping. I mean TBS surprised me by starting to air Family Matters again, even if it is at 4 in the morning, so hopefully Nick@Nite would do something like that. But knowing NAN, it would just be another Hangin' With Mr. Cooper situation.
merlinjones 06-07-2020, 10:00 PM Bewitched, Donna Reed, Jeannie, Beaver, Dick Van Dyke, Andy, Hillbillies, Lucy... those were the salad days of Nick-at-Nite. It died when Rosanne and friends arrived.
tooltime1987 06-18-2020, 05:40 PM I think Nick@Nite should keep Full House and George Lopez and put Home Improvement and Family Matters back on the programming line-up and add Last Man Standing, Reba, 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Teenage Daughter, and According To Jim to the programming line-up. Friends and Mom can move back to TV Land.
