View Full Version : Not as good as you thought
treky 04-20-2019, 02:06 AM did you ever see a show that you hadn't seen in years; and back when you last saw it you really liked it but upon seeing it again you maybe think something like "I used to like this?"
For me, I used to LOVE "THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO" when it was on in the early 80s on ABC. A couple weeks ago Decades showed it on their Weekend Binge; I watched it because I hadn't seen it since it originally aired and it wasn't as good as I thought.

Unfortunately most shows I watched as a kid.
Tubehead 04-22-2019, 12:31 AM I agree!! i don;t liked super girl now they got transgender people in there! thats when i quite watching it!!
MikeLutton 04-22-2019, 12:46 AM it was so good way it was if they left it alone it would of been fine.
TSMIV 04-22-2019, 01:09 AM WKRP. I watched all of it last year and I kept thinking it was going to get good, but it never did. I watched it in reruns in the 80s and 90s and thought it was funny back then, but it's overrated. It has it's funny moments, but it's basically pretty bland.

funky-rat 04-23-2019, 02:31 PM Unfortunately most shows I watched as a kid.
True that. Many of the cartoons I love as a kid are completely unwatchable to me now.
I also grew up without cable, so we watched what we could pull in on 3-4 channels. I loved being at a friend's house so I could watch stuff like Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, Bewitched, etc.....also stuff I just can't watch anymore.
Stuff I didn't miss as a kid like Mork & Mindy, Happy Days, Three's Company - just all too formulaic. You know what is going to happen 3 minutes in to the show (same with stuff like Gilligan's Island).
Don't get me wrong - I have a list of stuff that I still enjoy much - but that's a list for another thread.
Steve_uk 04-23-2019, 03:13 PM Dallas, Dynasty, Falcon Crest all after the first couple of seasons.
Mork & Mindy, I used to think it was so funny, now I can only stand to watch it a couple of times a year.
Saved By The Bell. I used to watch the TBS reruns a lot when younger, but watching it now just isn’t the same.
Tubehead 04-27-2019, 12:31 PM another one that i used to watch was f-troop!! now its just out dated now!! another one is mister Ed!! I used to watch it!! but now i find it chessy!! another show me & my mom used to watch was the patty duke show!! all she had to do is tell her dad the problem!! then she wouldn't get into more trouble!! if she only told her dad the problem! then she wouldn't get in so deep trouble!!
Schmoopie 06-05-2019, 03:15 AM There are many shows that I feel this way about. Full House is one of them. I still like the original but some of the episodes that never bothered me before bother me now in terms of how unfunny they are. Seinfeld is another show that I "grew out of", you could say. I just don't find it funny anymore and that makes me kind of sad.
Most cartoons I can't get into either. I've been DVR'ing Bewitched and there are a lot of episodes that I don't really like. I was floored when I realized the show lasted seven years! It's a good show, don't get me wrong, but does anyone else notice that they tend to repeat the same situation a lot? Endora is always turning Darrin into something or another. I think the first three seasons of that show were the best. I used to not like Dick York that much but I think he was the better Darrin.
I will think of other shows and post again later.
theoneandonlytvqueen 06-12-2019, 10:15 PM i remember liking full house when i was younger but now i just find michelle really annoying.
the hogan family- i hadn't seen the reruns since they were on abc family in 2006. looked forward to antenna tv getting it in. when they had the special preview decemeber 2017 watched with family. coulldn't find anything that could distingusih it from other shows.still like the theme song.
Schmoopie 06-13-2019, 02:26 AM I'm kind of that way with The Facts of Life now. I've been watching the series from start to finish. I'm currently on Season 3 and aside from a few episodes here and there, I can't say that it's one of my favorite TV shows. It never really was to begin with actually, but I don't like it as much now as I did then.

dakert 06-13-2019, 03:58 PM If I liked a show as a kid I still like it and probably have the DVDs
Duster76 06-13-2019, 10:47 PM My pick would be Perry Mason, remember seeing it and liking in when it was in reruns in the late 60's, but seeing it on ME TV now, wow it is so formula driven (check the watch, time for Tragg to show up, check the watch, time for the real killer to confess). I understand why it was like this, first season a mindboggling 39 hourlong episodes, 5 out of the next 8, 30 episodes. but still it is so paint by the numbers.
rcbrad 06-14-2019, 09:03 PM eight is enough comes to mind for me.

night court- i've been watching for awhile back when a & e got the repeats it didn't live up to the hype. one ofmy faves used to be when they thought dan was dead. but love love day court because everyone expect christine has a different side to them
alf- wanted to see it caught on hub. i just don't get it but it doesn't stop me from watching.
SitcomsHeydayfan 06-15-2019, 01:56 AM Saved By The Bell. I used to watch the TBS reruns a lot when younger, but watching it now just isn’t the same.
I HATED the way Slater kept calling Zach "Preppy"! I saw a few episodes back in the day but you couldn't PAY me to watch that today!
MikeLutton 06-15-2019, 09:57 PM i cant stand screech lol others are all right
SitcomsHeydayfan 06-16-2019, 01:24 AM Some people kept raving about Seinfeld but I find it AWFUL & not funny at all. Friends is another show that a lot of people used to find funny which is a DISASTER.
icecream 06-17-2019, 09:43 PM Friends is another show that a lot of people used to find funny which is a DISASTER.Friends is the most overrated sitcom from the 90s. The only good part of it is the theme song.

I don't even like that. You want the best theme songs for TV shows?
Try Charlie's Angels, Love Boat, Gilligan's Island, The Jeffersons, & Too Close For Comfort.
For non-sitcoms look at MacGyver & Dallas. Dallas may be the greatest TV theme song ever! Or at least the coolest/most glamorous.
dee2364 06-26-2019, 07:39 PM I agree with whoever said Little House on the Prairie. I adored this show growing up and even read some of the books. I thought it was the perfect family friendly and wholesome show.
Looking back, I couldn't believe how sleazy it eventually became (relying on shock value) and how badly it ruined characters (Albert), contradicted its own uplifting messages after awhile and repeated the same scenarios over and over again. I also noticed how vain Michael Landon was with his Bee Gees disco hair, and now feel as if Victor French would've been better as Pa. And Nancy Oleson was an abomination, literally a sociopath (she deliberately tried killing a classmate), but we were supposed to think she was cute and funny.
dee2364 06-26-2019, 07:48 PM Friends is the most overrated sitcom from the 90s. The only good part of it is the theme song.
I loathed that show as soon as I noticed it took place in NYC and there wasn't one person of color in the background. Keep in mind that it wasn't about wanting diversity for diversity's sake (The Drew Carey Show is the whitest show on TV yet I love it to death). It was just the audacity of having a show take place in NYC and whitewashing the hell out of it. NYC is literally one of the most diverse places in the world, so that was inexcusable.
And then there were the other issues, too, of these young college graduates being able to afford this gigantic loft in NYC. C'mon.
As for the theme song, I couldn't stand it because it was an obvious rip off of The Monkees. It doesn't rip off an exact song (the closest maybe being "Pleasant Valley Sunday") but it has their signature sound.

And that song was popular before it became the theme song! Now whenever I hear it I automatically think of Friends. Ugh... I still like the song, though.
TSMIV 06-28-2019, 05:10 PM feel as if Victor French would've been better as Pa
That would have been awesome! Victor French as Mr. Edwards was the best character on the show and I never liked Landon as Charles. Charles Ingalls of the show is nothing like Charles Ingalls of the books. The show had very little in common with the books except the character names. TV LHOTP was just another small town soap opera much like The Waltons (which didn't have much do with the original source material either).

yea, most TV shows based on books or movies have very little to do with the source material. MASH for instance.

I agree with you, but I'll just say I saw a black person on it once; in the background at Monica & Chandlars wedding.
Also about the apartment: Monica says in the first episode that she's sub-letting it. She says if it wasn't for that "I would never be able to afford a huge place like this."
