In a wide-ranging interview with The Daily Beast, longtime Simpsons showrunner Al Jean discusses everything from the Disney merger to satirizing President Trump. Jean also addresses last week's joint decisions by The Simpsons creators and producers to yank the Season 3 "Stark Raving Dad" episode featuring the King of Pop's voice. "Yes. It wasn’t something that makes me happy," Jean says of pulling the episode. "It’s something I agree with completely. What saddens me is, if you watch that (Leaving Neverland) documentary—which I did, and several of us here did—and you watch that episode, honestly, it looks like the episode was used by Michael Jackson for something other than what we’d intended it. It wasn’t just a comedy to him, it was something that was used as a tool. And I strongly believe that. That, to me, is my belief, and it’s why I think removing it is appropriate. I lose a little bit of money financially, it’s not something that’s great personally to lose one of the most successful things I ever did, but I totally think it’s the right move. I don’t believe in going through and making judgments on every guest star and saying 'this one was bad, that one was bad,' but the episode itself has a false purpose, and that’s what I object to about it now." Asked to specify the false purpose, Jean responds: "I think it was part of what he used to groom boys. I really don’t know, and I should be very careful because this is not something I know personally, but as far as what I think, that’s what I think. And that makes me very, very sad."

This is like a case of pot calling kettle black. Al Jean is a sick pervert and for him to “criticize” is hypocritical.

Al Jean co-wrote the episode. Exactly what was his "intent"?

If you read the interview he says that he only realized (https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/the-simpsons%E2%80%99-boss-al-jean-believes-michael-jackson-used-cameo-%E2%80%98to-groom-boys%E2%80%99.2226894/) that Jackson used them for nefarious purposes while watching the documentary:

Al Jean is a sick pervert

I'm not saying that you're wrong, but what do you base this on?

On the same token however, did Michael Jackson have full creative control of the episode? Did he agree to appear only if certain stories were told? Or did he just follow the script presented to him? At the time, he used a pseudonym as well, so there was doubt that it was the real Michael Jackson on the episode at all.

Obviously, I’m not a fan of the show. I never have been a fan of it. To me, it’s one of the most disgusting and degrading things put on TV. That’s why I think the way I do.

So you call someone a pervert because you don't like the show?

Only a pervert could develop such a disgraceful show.

Despite my avatar and my signature I actually finally quit watching The Simpsons last year because I got sick of all the blasphemous jokes.

On the other hand, I've always felt like The Simpsons is extremely tame when compared to the likes of South Park or Family Guy. By modern standards there's really not a whole lot of sexual humor on The Simpsons.

Are Matt Parker, Trey Stone and Seth MacFarlane sick perverts? Absolutely!

Is Al Jean a sick pervert? I doubt it.

Disgraceful? You're in the minority on that one.

This coming from someone who obviously has no idea who I am or anything about my character. If someone like JamesG and opus wants to talk and debate, I’m up for that because I respect them. You only have 2 posts...HAHA! Get some more posts under your belt, then we’ll talk.

No doubt that just like with all the other guest stars, they asked him to make an appearance and they wrote the episode just for him. Al Jean is really pathetic to try and pretend that MJ practically wrote the episode all himself, nor does it make much sense to say that MJ used the episode to groom boys.

Then let’s debate. Saying “I hate the show“, fine. Saying it’s dumb, not funny, and stupid, okay, fair enough, your opinion. But calling a guy a sick pervert just because he works on the show seems wrong, unless you maybe have something like photos of him in a three way with a goat and an ostrich. And even that’s cool if it’s consensual among the three of them.

Right. Perfectly fine opinion. But that still doesn't make Al Jean a sick pervert.

Personally, I think peanut butter is disgraceful and blasphemy. But I don't think the president of Skippy is a sick pervert. (That's the president of JIF )

I do love how a thread can shift from Michael Jackson and young boys, to debating The Simpsons, to a review of peanut butter.

And people say social media is useless....

The Simpsons' Michael Jackson episode is not available on Disney+ (https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/simpsons-episode-featuring-michael-jackson-kept-disney-1254609)

The 1991 Season 3 premiere "Stark Raving Dad" featuring the pop icon as a guest voice is missing from Disney's new streaming service. Disney has not commented. But in March, "Stark Raving Dad" was pulled from broadcast syndication (https://www.primetimer.com/item/Leaving-Neverland-prompts-The-Simpsons-to-pull-the-episode-featuring-Michael-Jacksons-voice-DjS0PJ) following HBO's Leaving Neverland documentary accusing Jackson of sexual misconduct on young boys.
