View Full Version : Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman indicted in college admissions bribery scheme
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/felicity-huffman-lori-loughlin-amign-dozens-charged-college-entrance-exam-scandal-1194023
Fuller House star Loughlin and and Desperate Housewives alum Huffman are the biggest names among dozens charged in a nationwide college entrance exam scandal. Huffman and her husband, Shameless star William H. Macy, are accused of disguising a $15,000 charitable payment to facilitate their daughter cheating on an SAT exam. The charging papers refer to Macy only as "spouse," but he has not been indicted (https://twitter.com/JasonRileyWDRB/status/1105493746194567168). Loughlin and husband Mossimo Giannulli, who was named, are accused of paying $500,000 to have their two daughters designated as recruits for USC's crew team -- even though they don't actually participate in crew. The scheme would guarantee their admission to USC. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Huffman's daughter is said to have taken the (SAT) test in Dec. 2017 and received a 1420 on the test, a 400 point improvement from a previous test. Last October, Huffman discussed repeating this for her youngest daughter in a taped conversation that evidently the FBI has obtained. However, Huffman did not go through with the cheating for her youngest daughter, according to court papers. The confidential witness in this scheme has agreed to plead guilty to racketeering, money laundering and obstruction of justice (after alerting several subjects of the investigation of the government probe), according to court papers and has been cooperating since Sept. 2018 in a bid for leniency."

Why is the Lori Loughlin-Felicity Huffman college admissions scandal so fun? (https://slate.com/human-interest/2019/03/why-the-college-cheating-scandal-involving-felicity-huffman-and-lori-loughlin-is-so-horrifying-and-so-fun.html)
"I know that the people involved in this debacle are real people, with real emotions, caught up in a mortifying scandal that has also humiliated their children," says Willa Paskin of the Fuller House star and the Desperate Housewives alum indictment for college admissions fraud. "But have you scoped the details on this thing??? The FBI called this Operation Varsity Blues because they, too, are apparently ’90s nostalgists. The scheme involved, at some point, photoshopping the prospective students’ heads onto the bodies of other student athletes. Huffman used the phrase 'ruh roh' in this context: 'Ruh Ro! Looks like (my daughter’s high school) wants to provide own proctor.' At least one of the admitted students is already a paid Instagram influencer. This is a genuine scandal—a big, messy to-do and a disgrace—but it also, thankfully, euphorically, does not involve the grifts of our commander in chief, nuclear realpolitik, or our dying planet. It is powerfully representative of so much of our national dysfunction, but will not immediately result in the death of democracy or any other human beings. In contemporary America, I believe this is what passes for a lark."

It sounds like something characters would do in a TV show anyway. Have you noticed how parents in TV shows never send their kids to public schools? Seems like it would be a good way to avoid stress and spending thousands of dollars, but then characters in modern TV shows always seem to be upper-middle class too. Heaven forbid kids go to *gasp* public school.....

Kimmel joked in his opening monologue (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTkt2JUfdRE) about the "Operation Varsity Blues" college admissions bribery scandal that led to Loughlin and Felicity Huffman's indictment on Tuesday. But the Jimmy Kimmel Live! host chose not to address the scandal when Loughlin's Full House and Fuller House co-star Bob Saget was Kimmel's first guest on Tuesday, as Fox News points out, adding that Saget's visit appears to have been a coincidence. Loughlin has never been a guest (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0521753/#self) on Kimmel's show, while Huffman was a guest twice, in 2006 and 2007, according to IMDb. (Huffman's husband, William H. That was only used in the extended intro when the entire cast appears. Once in seasons 1 and 2, and twice in 3. It wasn't used at all in season 4 of Fuller House.

Lori Loughlin discussed choosing TV roles with an eye towards morals and ethics in a newly resurfaced interview (http://toofab.com/2019/03/21/lori-loughlin-interview-morals-ethics-college-admissions/)
Watch the indicted former When Calls the Heart star tell the Christian Broadcasting Network about her career choices in "an industry that crosses the line morally and ethically in so many ways."
Lori Loughlin cheating scandal and When Calls the Heart firing reveals that scripted cable is alive and well (https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2019/03/20/lori-loughlin-scandal-highlights-closely-kept-secret-some-basic-cable-is-alive-well/)
The Hallmark Channel series has a devoted fanbase called "Hearties," who had to grapple last week with Loughlin's abrupt firing following her college cheating indictment. "Such hardcore devotion may surprise even avid TV viewers, who are not likely to pay much attention to a wholesome period series airing on a basic-cable network far up the dial," says Steven Zeitchik. "But the loyalty demonstrates how even in this age of streaming, when the latest Netflix black comedy is endlessly hashed out by upscale audiences on Twitter, basic cable has not disappeared (or gone exclusively with its cheaply produced bread-and-butter of reality television). In some ways, in fact, scripted cable is stronger than it has been in years. As many industry figures and pundits lament the scourge of cord-cutting — in which viewers are abandoning cable subscriptions because they do not care enough about the shows being offered to pay for them — the Hearties and the show they love refute the point. The fans are expressing a level of interest that will keep them paying their Comcast, Charter and DirecTV bills for years to come."
What was your reaction (https://www.reddit.com/r/fullhouse/comments/13ulorc/what_was_your_reaction_when_you_first_found_out/) when you first found out Lori Loughlin cheated her way into getting her daughter into college?
JO Sweet Heart 07-03-2023, 12:18 PM ^^^ I was surprised, but I never held it against as much as so many other people chose to. She wanted the best for her kids and obviously was willing to do whatever it took for her kids to have it.
God bless you and Lori and her family always!!!

From starring with a young Keanu Reeves to becoming the most famous aunt on TV, Lori Loughlin became a household name in the 80's and 90's. She married a fashion designer and preached wholesome values while their family lived the high life, but that picture perfect image would be shattered (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zxmMjEsRFg) by a federal investigation known as Operation Varsity Blues. This is the story of the most famous family involved in the largest college admissions scam.

Who's Lori Laughlin?? No, I knew who she was, but hadn't seen her in years. She and her husband are so rich, why did they need to "cheat" to get her daughter in to an exclusive school? Just make a "donation!" I mostly think the whole story was overblown. Rich kids are always going to be able to get in to expensive schools.

I also thought the Lori Loughlin College Admissions scandal was overblown. It wasn't like Lori was a Drug Queenpin, a child molester or a Murderer, she just cheated to get her daughters enrolled in College. Luckily, Lori is being forgiven and is even getting Hallmark Movies back. :) I remember a Lori Loughlin Fan asking something like,"Will Lori play herself in the Lori Loughlin College Admissions Scandal Movie?:crazy:
JamesG 04-26-2024, 04:32 PM Lori Loughlin Speaks Out Following Varsity Blues Scandal: “You Can’t Hang on to Negativity. Life’s Too Short”
by Kevin Dolak
April 26, 2024
Five years after the sensational college admission scandal that landed her in federal prison for nearly two months, Lori Loughlin is following up her reemergence on television with her first major magazine interview since she was at the center of the national controversy.
Loughlin, 59, appears on the cover of the latest issue of First for Women and, in the accompanying article, she discusses her life in 2024 without directly addressing the scandal.
“Every day, we’re met with different obstacles. But, for me, it’s like that song says, ‘I get knocked down, but I get up again,'” she says. “Nobody said life was going to be a breeze; we all make mistakes, but the important thing is to persevere.”
“I try to be a forgiving person. I’m not one to hold onto stuff. Stuff happens to everyone. We’ve all been in positions to ask for forgiveness but to ask for it, you have to learn and know how to give forgiveness, too,” she says while discussing the power of moving on.
“My family wasn’t one to hold grudges,” she adds. “I didn’t grow up in a household where if you made a mistake, you weren’t forgiven. No one is perfect, we all make mistakes. So I was always told to let stuff go. And I think for your own health, you have to let things go, because you can’t hang on to negativity. Life’s too short.”
