Holiday in the Sun (2001) and The Challenge (2003) on DVD :thumbsdow

Well the first movies I saw for 2019 weren't by choice as I watched two Mary-Kate and Ashley films. These were for my friends' kids during our New Year's party and I watched it w/ them.

I was surprised at how many people I knew who appeared in these movies:

Austin Nichols (One Tree Hill, The Walking Dead)
Ben Easter (Husk)
Megan Fox (Holiday was her acting debut)
Billy Aaron Brown (8 Simple Rules, Jeepers Creepers 2)
Wendy Schaal (Munchies, The 'Burbs, Small Soldiers, American Dad!)
Theo Rossi (Sons of Anarchy, Luke Cage)

Watched these with my daughter today, she's been reading the book I got for Christmas Analog Nightmares: The Shot On Video Horror Films of 1982-1995. I've been trying to get her to watch some of these movies before, the only one she would watch at the time was Redneck Zombies, but now that she's reading about them she wants to see them.

Blood Lake '87  (Six teenagers spend a weekend at a lake, and a bloodthirsty maniac kills them one by one.)

Shreck '90  (Roger, Neil, and Mike are horror movie fans who have a mock seance to bring Nazi psycho Max Shreck back from the dead. Unfortunately, the seance works and Shreck wreaks havoc in our time and in his.)

Boardinghouse '82  (157 min director's cut; A boarding house is reopened years after gruesome murders were committed there. Suddenly, the body count begins once more!

Considered the first shot-on-video horror film, though it was transferred to 35mm for theatrical release.
The movie also included a gimmick called 'Horror Vision'- a visual and audio cue to warn the audience of an upcoming gore scene.)

Blair Witch (2016) on Blu-ray :thumbsdow

The film works as a sequel to the original film where Heather's brother goes on a quest w/ his friends to find out what happened to his missing sister.

I felt that they tried to do what the original film did "in the modern era", but it didn't do as great. Felt really unnecessary.

The father of three children was killed when he left his house. This provokes a lot of sentimental emotions in the neighbourhood because the people know nothing about his dark past.

I really liked this!! It was a made for TV true story that took place on Long Island, NY in 1987 ! Matt Dillon's first two movies!!!!! DAMN he was HOT!!!!!! I LOVED Matt Dillon back in the day!:eyes: My goal in life was to be Mrs. Matt Dillon after seeing Little Darlings back than !! To me he was way hotter and cuter young, I like him as an actor, he's a really good actor but I think he was at his hottest very young!!!:) I know he was underage, but before you throw me in jail, remember I was young too back than!!!

Anyway you all know Little Darlings ( I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this movie, ;) besides Matt , Kristy, Tatum , Armand Assante , he was hot too , all were good in this, it was such a cool, cute movie) ;),

And a lesser known movie Over the edge !

With only a recreation center to distract them, most of the teenagers in the drab planned community of New Granada have turned to drugs and delinquency. Carl (Michael Kramer), the son of a town councilman, is an exception, but he can't seem to help falling in with a charismatic and troubled classmate, Richie (Matt Dillon). Soon after, a trigger-happy sheriff (Harry Northrup) shoots Richie, and sole witness Carl has to go on the run, eventually inciting a dramatic teenage riot.

A sci-fi B-movie featuring 3 aliens disguised as sexy women trying to stop an alien warlord (WWE's Chyna) from taking over Earth.

The film is done tongue-in-cheek as it knows it's ridiculous and makes fun of itself a lot, but I didn't get into it. The acting and effects are awful and the humor wasn't funny to me.

It was Anna Nicole Smith's final film.

The movie is a long time fave of mine as one of the better so bad it's good. Jackie Vernon delivers some corny one liners, most of the humor is straight out of Benny Hill. The gore effects scenes look like something from an early HG Lewis flick.
I love that that microwave is big enough to fit a whole human body.

Also started listening to the audio commentary with the writer/producer, but I only made it 30 mins in. The guy was extremely annoying,he laughed at everything he said, he laughed between words. Then he would say "Want to hear something funny?" then proceed to tell something unfunny then laugh.
I did learn a few interesting things during that 30 mins- one being all of the interior scenes were shot inside Mickey Dolenz's house.)

Directed by Jack Hill with frequent Jack Hill actor Sid Haig appearing. Pat Woodell (Petticoat Junction) also stars as one of the inmates.

A young wife comes to believe that her offspring is not of this world. Waifish Rosemary Woodhouse (Mia Farrow) and her struggling actor husband Guy (John Cassavetes) move to a New York City apartment building with an ominous reputation and odd neighbors Roman and Minnie Castavet (Sidney Blackmer, Ruth Gordon). When Rosemary becomes pregnant she becomes increasingly isolated, and the diabolical truth is revealed only after Rosemary gives birth.

One of my all time favorite movies!!!! ;)

Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) has just finished college and, back at his parents' house, he's trying to avoid the one question everyone keeps asking: What does he want to do with his life? An unexpected diversion crops up when he is seduced by Mrs. Robinson (Anne Bancroft), a bored housewife and friend of his parents. But what begins as a fun tryst turns complicated when Benjamin falls for the one woman Mrs. Robinson demanded he stay away from, her daughter, Elaine (Katharine Ross).

This was SO GOOD and SO very funny!!! Total 1960's nostalgia! And Dustin Hoffman was SO young and ADORABLE!!! ;)

Three months after a one-night stand with Isabel Fuentes (Salma Hayek) in Las Vegas, New York City real estate developer Alex Whitman (Matthew Perry) learns she is pregnant. Despite being a terminal bachelor, Alex is drawn to Isabel, and the pair marries. Isabel's father, Miguel (Tomas Milian), suspects Alex has bad intentions, and the couple finds themselves pressured by both their families. When Alex is offered a promotion, he is torn between his new life in Las Vegas and success in New York.

From Hell (2001) on DVD

Loosely based on the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell, the film focuses on inspector Frederick Abberline tracking down serial killer Jack the Ripper.

The film features the Whitechapel murders being committed for some Freemason ritual and to cover-up Prince Albert Victor's secret double-life.

The Squaw's Love (1911) Starring: Mabel Normand, Alfred Paget, Dark Cloud

Synopsis (from IMDb): Wild Flower follows her banished lover, Gray Fox, into the wilderness. Her departure is witnessed by Silver Fawn, who mistakenly thinks Wild Flower is stealing her fiancé. Silver Fawn sets out in pursuit and jealously attacks Wild Flower. They fall into the river but are rescued by Gray Fox.

One of Normand's earliest movies, and directed by D.W. Griffith. It is always interesting to watch a film from the genesis of Hollywood.

Happy Birthday To Me '81  (Blu Ray; At the snobby Crawford Academy, Virginia's group of friends start to go missing years after horrible events that happened to her as a child around her birthday.

Melissa Sue Anderson, Glenn Ford, Lawrence Dane, Tracey E. Bregman, Matt Craven, Lenore Zann, David Eisner, Sharon Acker, Frances Hyland, Lisa Langlois, Lesleh Donaldson

Also listened to the audio commentary with 'The Hysteria Continues', I was familiar with them, and their site Hysteria Lives!, though I hadn't listened to their podcasts or other commentaries so I wasn't sure what to expect. But they definitely were knowledgeable on this film and slashers in general. And they gave a lot of interesting information on Happy Birthday To Me.)

THE RAGTIME BAND ( 1913) Mack Sennett, Ford Sterling, Mabel Normand

Synopsis: Professor Smelts the band leader gets into a romantic rivalry with one of his musicians over the affections of a pretty girl.

Mabel Normand was adorable in this 11 minute Mack Sennett directed short (or Flickers as they were called back then). Loved her Edwardian era dress and hat (stunning)

Here are some screenshots of the movie; sorry for the poor quality. I especially love the line of "Jazz Groupies" from the year 1913. Groupies never looked so stylish:)

It Happened One Night (1934) Clark Gable, Claudette Colbert

Synopsis: A spoiled heiress running away from her family is helped by a man who is actually a reporter in need of a story.

Frank Capra's 1934 masterpiece, and winner of 5 Academy Awards. I loved the chemistry between Gable and Colbert, both were phenomenal in this epic film adapted from a short story (Night Bus) by Samuel Hopkins Adams. Gable was the epitome of charisma and Colbert was just as equally enchanting.

I fell in love with Colbert's wedding gown, which she wore to her thwarted conjugality to the oleaginous King Westley (Jameson Thomas).

Here are a few screenshots of the gorgeous wedding dress and of the film:)

Since we were snowed in today, the wife and I had a Miss Marple double feature.

Murder She Said '61  (When Miss Marple reports witnessing a murder through the window of a passing train, the police dismiss her as a dotty spinster when no trace of the crime can be found. )

Murder At The Gallop '63  (When a wealthy old man appears to have been "frightened to death" by a cat, Miss Marple suspects one of his four relatives, all heirs to his estate, of his murder. )

Margaret Rutherford's (Miss Marple) real life husband Stringer Davis appears alongside her in all four films as her friend Mr Stringer.

The Machinist (2004) on DVD

A factory worker has a severe case of insomnia, in which he hasn't slept in over a year, and begins suffering from paranoid delusions.

Christian Bale went on a strict diet (of no more than 200 calories per day) to achieve his emaciated appearance. He had to regain all of his body and muscle mass for Batman Begins a year later.

Screams Of A Winter Night '79  (118 minute version. Blu Ray; Campers swap stories of lake monsters, wind demons and other atrocities while vacationing at a wilderness cabin.

This is the uncut version that features almost 30 mins of never before seen footage including the 4th story. In the theatrical version the first story of the anthology starts at 21 minutes, in the uncut version it's around 29 minutes before it starts.

The 4th story was fun and short, but I can see why they chose to leave it out for the theatrical version. All and all I really enjoyed this version as the scenes that were cut added to the characters of the wraparound story.)

Bad Boys (1995) and Bad Boys II (2003) on DVD

Originally the project was called "Bulletproof Hearts" and it was brought to Paramount by Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson in 1986. Jon Lovitz and Dana Carvey were the original leads, but had to bow out after the various delays.

They then brought it to Columbia Pictures w/ a rewritten script and Michael Bay came onboard. They wanted Will Smith due to his popularity on "The Fresh Prince" at the time as they liked his style. Arsenio Hall was then approached for Martin Lawrence's role, but he turned it down. He later called it his "worst career mistake."
