"Golden Cavities"
Oh, wow---"it's an energy boost"---sounds like Monster and 5-hour today!
Ahhh,haha---Tootie references Mounds and Almond Joy! ;)
Molly on an anti-sugar rant---man, living with her, I bet those girls sometimes got annoyed with her rants!
Hey, Tootie's got jelly beans! Just like she went on about so in "Dope"!
But Blair's line seems odd to me: "You're right. Fillings take a lot of drilling and pain." You'd think she'd talk more about the cosmetics of it all, and not the pain, lol. I would think a different girl would say that line, like Cindy or Natalie, or Nancy, if she talks. ;)
'80sSitcoms 12-31-2018, 07:32 PM "Romeo & Juliet"
Hmmm, anyone else notice that only "the big 3" are in this one?
"Well, what are you crying about? They'd be dead by now anyway."
Ahhhhhhhhh,hahahahahaha!!! :rotflmao:
(also makes me think of that podcast you guys were saying they were talking about Tootie with things like this, hahaha)
Ya know, though, they should have used Nancy instead of Blair! Nancy is in a committed relationship, and is sensitive, and she acted in Shakespeare as a leading role, so this would have been perfect for her.
'80sSitcoms 12-31-2018, 07:36 PM "Clones"
Awww, "Garrett is doing needlepoint". I <3 that :)
Tootie reads the definition, and then is more confused than before!
Also, so odd that Mr. Bradley teaches classes---it makes the campus seem so small! Like there's only 1 dorm, with 7 girls. lol
Also---so weird to think of "clones" being discussed as scientific reality in 1979! I thought that really came into play with "Dolly the sheep" in the early 90s, lol.
'80sSitcoms 12-31-2018, 07:37 PM "Homework"
And there's Blair, still impishly turning out that lamp and dashing! haha
Just like Lorsie, I can so hear that season 1 intro theme starting in my head when Blair turns out that light! :)
'80sSitcoms 12-31-2018, 07:38 PM So, all the girls were in these, except for Cindy and Nancy; who, coincidentally, were the only 2 shoved out of a whole episode ("Molly's Holiday").
Also, interestingly, though these are comic pieces, and Natalie is one of the biggest sources of comic relief, she gets no comedy in her lone appearance in these! lol

Yep the big three who make up the core four

YEP! I knew you'd recognize their old motto!
Molly on an anti-sugar rant---man, living with her, I bet those girls sometimes got annoyed with her rants!
Yeah, no sugar, no polluting, no calling women "girls", no sex... Molly was kind of a downer sometimes...
Hey, Tootie's got jelly beans! Just like she went on about so in "Dope"!
Yeah, I wonder if "Golden Cavities" was originally supposed to be paired up with "Dope".
But Blair's line seems odd to me: "You're right. Fillings take a lot of drilling and pain." You'd think she'd talk more about the cosmetics of it all, and not the pain, lol. I would think a different girl would say that line, like Cindy or Natalie, or Nancy, if she talks. ;)
I agree it's an odd line for Blair, but I think by the time of the first retooling, the producers knew who most of the Unlost Girls would be, and scripted accordingly. No way were they going to allow Nancy a line in this! She had a line three scripts ago!

Except with Sue Ann
'80sSitcoms 12-31-2018, 08:27 PM Yeah, no sugar, no polluting, no calling women "girls", no sex... Molly was kind of a downer sometimes...
As Emily would say, when she's not inhaling grass, "Really"! ;)
But, again, like losing Sue Ann, losing Molly lost those whole areas of feminism, environmentalism, and advocacy (until they split a bit of that between Natalie and Tootie).
No way were they going to allow Nancy a line in this! She had a line three scripts ago!
Ahhhhhh,hahahaha, good point!
Except with Sue Ann.
Well, Sue Ann was in "Homework", though :read:

Tootie's so young, here, that Britt's declaration that Tootie's a sociopath is kinda silly: yes, she's very literal, but she's 12.
Ya know, though, they should have used Nancy instead of Blair! Nancy is in a committed relationship, and is sensitive, and she acted in Shakespeare as a leading role, so this would have been perfect for her.
I agree, wholeheartedly. Another wrong to justify when we hop in the time machine...

Oo! Oo! Lemme know so I can take time off!
Is this gonna be like Hot Tub Time Machine? (which I haven't seen, but sounds funny, lol)
RetroGuy2000 12-31-2018, 08:30 PM Except with Sue Ann
Yep. Sue Ann got plenty of lines in the main scripts, and even some in the mini-scripts.
RetroGuy2000 12-31-2018, 08:33 PM Oo! Oo! Lemme know so I can take time off!
Is this gonna be like Hot Tub Time Machine? (which I haven't seen, but sounds funny, lol)
I was picturing more like a TARDIS or a DeLorean.
Also: no need to take time off: when we're done, we just set the machine to come back five minutes after we left. No fuss, no muss.

Ya know, Retro, now that I think about it, actually, I don't think Molly would be a downer about sex---I thinks she'd be an "upper"! I mean, from what we see in "The Facts of Love", she was all gung-ho to learn about sex early on and be knowledgeable enough to teach "her guy" a few things!
Boy:
Molly:

Awww, "Garrett is doing needlepoint". I <3 that :)
Tootie reads the definition, and then is more confused than before!
Also, so odd that Mr. Bradley teaches classes---it makes the campus seem so small! Like there's only 1 dorm, with 7 girls. lol
So, in the second-to-last episode of FOL, Andy states that there are 200 girls at Eastland. With a seven-year curriculum, this would be, on average, 28.57 students per grade. With there being at least seven dorms (A through G), that also averages out to 28.57 students per dorm, although we're also told there are some girls who live off-campus.
We see quite small class sizes in "The Facts of Love" and "Front Page": more than seven, but, I'd guess, no more than 12. The graduating class of Eastland in "Graduation" is also quite small: fewer than 30 girls. At 12 girls per class, and 200 students, Eastland would need 17 classrooms (and thus a minimum of 17 teachers). 15 students per class would reduce the need to 14 teachers... still a lot for only 200 students.
With a school this small, I suspect the headmaster would need to teach a couple of classes, as additional duties, in order to keep the school from going bankrupt.
RetroGuy2000 12-31-2018, 08:51 PM Ya know, Retro, now that I think about it, actually, I don't think Molly would be a downer about sex---I thinks she'd be an "upper"!
Then why does she say, "Sex, sex, sex!" so disapprovingly before falling in love with Dan Rather?
RetroGuy2000 12-31-2018, 08:53 PM So, all the girls were in these, except for Cindy and Nancy; who, coincidentally, were the only 2 shoved out of a whole episode ("Molly's Holiday").
I don't believe it was coincidence.

Cindy: Wow, that's a lot of math!
Then why does she say "Sex, sex, sex!" so disapproving before falling in love with Dan Rather?
Hey, you're supposed to agree with me! ;) :p
I forget about the teaseres...well, perhaps she disapproves of everything being about sex. Or sex too soon, but not necessarily before marriage, like Sue Ann.
I don't believe it was coincidence.
Writing them off in MH may not have been, but I meant the coincidence that they are the only 2 girls not to be in any of those teasers/taggers.

Also, true story: with my penchant for mishearing lyrics, for YEARS I thought the line was "When the world never seems to believin' up to your dreams"---which doesn't really make sense, but I never thought too much 'bouts it!  :o I guess I thought it meant the world was having trouble believing in the dreams you had for yourself, lol.

Well to be fair, the season 7 version is sung like “believing”.

Aw, that's nice of ya to come to my defense, but, to be fair, I didn't see the "later" years until...well..."later! I grew up with the Gold and Silver ages in my earliest childhood. :)

Haha oh. But seriously she sings it like “Be leeeeaving”, did they intend to change it or is she just saying it wrong?
'80sSitcoms 01-01-2019, 02:19 AM Haha oh. But seriously she sings it like “Be leeeeaving”, did they intend to change it or is she just saying it wrong?
I think it's just the way she's singing it. The sheet music (which I have) does say "be living" (or "be livin' ", but yeah, that's the phrase/gist).

I don't think that was a coincidence.
I suspect the producers viewed the cold opens/tags as opportunities to use them to feature certain girls, as a way of showcasing them. After the first retooling, after episode 4, I think the producers had decided that their four young stars would be Blair, Tootie, Natalie, and Sue Ann. Nancy and Cindy would be scripted as out of the room, or leaving early, and they wouldn't be getting any special emphasis.

Yeah, one episode. Or really, half an episode because Sue Ann has the other half.

'80sSitcoms 01-02-2019, 04:38 PM I don't think that was a coincidence.
Ah I see what you mean, taking into account those were only written for the 1980 shows.
Nancy and Cindy would be scripted as out of the room, or leaving early, and they wouldn't be getting any special emphasis.
Hey now, don't you go grouping my Cindy with that Nancy! After all, she did have another shining time in "Running". :D (unless you meant scripted in the cold openings as such, in which, I apologize, lol)
'80sSitcoms 01-02-2019, 04:39 PM But its still more than Nancy got  Til her return in season 2 that is.
Yeah, Nancy remained wallpaper, but Cindy did get a co-starring role to share with Sue Ann (though it's really more like 60/40, instead of 50/50...at the very least 55/45, lol).
RetroGuy2000 01-02-2019, 05:04 PM Hey now, don't you go grouping my Cindy with that Nancy! After all, she did have another shining time in "Running". :D (unless you meant scripted in the cold openings as such, in which, I apologize, lol)
"Running" is a nice, bright moment for Cindy. Unfortunately, it's also her swan song.
During the first four episodes of FOL, the distribution of lines seems much more equitable. Although every episode is Blair-heavy, Cindy and Nancy both get episodes (or co-episodes). After those first four, things changed, and the show shifted to the Blair/Tootie/Sue Ann show, and the other girls got one episode each (except nothing for Nancy).
I do group Cindy with Nancy: by the end of the season, like Nancy, Cindy exits early in "Molly's Holiday", and Mrs. Garrett's "our group" in "Dope" is just Blair, Tootie, Natalie, and Sue Ann. After a strong start, Cindy is left with sitting in chairs in the background.

True, except, as a novelty for us, "I.Q." is not Blair-heavy. So unique now to watch it, knowing that!
I do group Cindy with Nancy
I only group her with Nancy in MH. No one can get worse than Nancy. But in general though, just the fact alone that Cindy gets "another episode" (or sharing one) with "Running" will not let me "group" (ha) her with Nancy.
by the end of the season, like Nancy, Cindy exits early in "Molly's Holiday", and Mrs. Garrett's "our group" in "Dope" is just Blair, Tootie, Natalie, and Sue Ann.
True, but Molly's also left out of "our group".

Hey now, just in that "Overachieving" scene. They "Nancied" her there!

Oh, I totally agree! I love Blair, who will become my favorite character in season 2, but it is so nice to keep her supporting here and letting others take the lead!

Even tho I like FOL, I really don’t have a fav char after season 1. Sue Ann is the only one for me. I guess if pressed I’d choose Blair too
