ACT I
Hey, what's with the cast list?? All the names are spelled right!
Did anyone else notice the Make-Up, Hair, and Wardrobe times don't match up with the other times?
"It's nice, but Eastland's scholastic program is more impressive than some trinket on a shelf" --- wow, what a clunker of a line! (and a trophy that large is obviously not a "trinket", with all due respect, Mr. Murray)
"You'd think that little 'E' makes their daughter Tracy Austin" --- I keep forgetting to Google that to see whoever this 1970s Tracy Austin person is. I guess some fast runner before our time!
HAHA they have Sue Ann and Cindy entering in "track clothes" instead of just "track shoes"!
And only Tootie says she's winning at checkers? Interesting---I'm so glad they added Nat's version of the line to show they can't even tell who's winning. That's a cute moment there.
Aww, they added in Mrs. Garrett's pride of my Cindy! "Well all riiiiiiight!" :D
"Mol"? "Mol"! Aww, they at first had Mrs. Garrett call Molly "Mol"---isn't that cute, Lorsie and Retrikins?
(CINDY DOES A BACK FLIP) --- wow, it's a good thing Julie Ann Haddock just happened to be a gymnast! haha (I'm sure they probably checked with her first, lol)
Interesting, here it's Eastland "ladies" humidify, but in the aired script it's "girls".
"There's a new girl at Schenectedy High who runs so fast no one's ever seen her face" --- I'm pretty sure that's not the aired line!
Ah, at first they had Mr. Bradley not even speak to Cindy saying Cindy hasn't run in competition, he just didn't respond to Cindy at all and spoke only to Sue Ann! I'm glad they changed it to have him deliver his line to Cindy instead.
Funny, they scratched out Tootie's "Yeah" and put "That's right" instead, but on the aired show she goes back to "Yeah", lol!
Hey, we learn about Sue Ann's summer plans! She'll be spending the summer in Wichita!
(and Nancy is being very good at wallpaper here---she hasn't even appeared on camera yet! It's the other 6 girls and the 2 adults! Poor Felice...in nearly every scene in the backdoor pilot, and they don't even give her a background appearance here yet...)
(GIRLS REACT AND CHANT, "CINDY, CINDY, CINDY,")
(shot of Blair enthused with others)
I always LOVED that chant!! The best thing Natalie Green ever did was to start "the Cindy chant"! There was nothing like being a little boy watching your favorite Eastland girl be chanted for by all the girls! :D
(and I just realized, I remember Nancy's there for the chant, but she wasn't there earlier...she must have really made a quiet, non-fussy entrance somewhere in here)
Bradley: (turning to Cindy) "Cindy it is." --- I much prefer the aired show, where he throws his hands up in defeat and says with a chuckle of "I give up!", "Alright, alright! Cindy it is!"
(all girls cheer)---that's right they all cheer! For CINDY!! :D
Oo, Blair had a cut line! --- "Hey, wait. I don't get excited about.....these things." (can't make out that missing word) Interesting...
Oo! A CUT SCENE!! WOW!!
Garrett: "Yeah, the President runs."
Molly: "And he fainted."
Interesting though they have Natalie say, "It's healthy", whereas you would think they would give that line to, maybe, Molly, for instance.
Sue Ann: "Yeah, let's all support Cindy!"
Cindy: "Hey, thanks, guys. I won't let you down. I'm gonna win." --- awwww! Oh man, I really wish these lines had been kept in!!
BUT---it's also a natural and great way to end the scene with "the Cindy chant" and Bradley's defeat!
(SHE STARTS THE "ROCKY" THEME. THE GIRLS JOIN IN. FINALLY, BLAIR ALSO JOINS IN)
hahahahaha!! That would have been so funny! (and so dated!!)
Ohhhhh, look, now we're in the school gym! So THAT'S why they all start running together!! Wow, I never actually really wondered why they all run together, but now seeing the cut scene, it makes perfect sense why they do!
Aha, they have Sue Ann remind them they all volunteered for the running program, as a "make-up" for the cut scene.
"Nancy" doesn't get a mention until page 13!! (and one line on page 14!)
Hey! Blair was supposed to get a stylish running suit, and she didn't! "Wardrobe!!" lol
"Roger gets excited at supermarket openings." Interesting! In the aired show they change it to "Roger gets excited in haircuts.", lol---the "haircuts" makes him sound weirder, but the "supermarket openings" makes him sound cornier, haha---I like that one!
It's too bad they didn't put there, "(NANCY REACTS)", haha.
(GARRETT, IN STUNNING TRACK SUIT) --- haha!
Oo, they made the girls really intense in the competition by adding "winning, winning!" to Mrs. Garrett's originally solo "winning".
Oo, they added "You know their schoolwork is suffering.", but they didn't keep that line. Interesting.
I wonder if Cindy's "How could I pass you on the right?!" became "Who could pass you on the right?!" because perhaps Julie Anne was really getting in the heat of the moment?
(CINDY PUSHES SUE ANN)
Get 'er, Cinds!! LOL
Blair: "Owww!!!!" LOL!!! I'm sorry Blair, no offense, but that just looks hilarious written out!
And interestingly, they don't have Blair falling dramatically to the sofa in a burst of domestic-violence-victimness like the aired show does---she just "stands"! lol
(THE GIRLS ARE GLARING) --- at first I thought that meant the background girls, and I was like, "Why are they glaring??" lol, then I realized that means Cindy and Sue Ann! So in the script, Bradley and Garrett pull the girls apart, Blair is hit, and the fighting stops. But in the aired version, those two blonde boxers are still going at it, right past the camera fade-out! Love it!!
'80sSitcoms 12-11-2018, 12:12 AM (this intermission is dedicated as a moment of silence for Nancy Olson, who got ONE line in Act I...ONE)
'80sSitcoms 12-11-2018, 12:36 AM ACT II
"What do you mean it sounds sexy?" --- they cut that out? But Felice sure didn't! lol
And if memory serves, I believe she says he is sick and depraved, but not that he is "degenerate".
(SHE HANGS UP PHONE WITH FORCE)
"with force"?? That's silly! At least, the way she delivers the farewell, she's not in a huff, she's cool and "la-de-da".
I wonder if the producers tried to smooth down Felice's ruffled "WHAT HAPPENED TO MY CHARACTER?!?" feathers by really building this up: "Nancy is VITAL to the plot! She is the GREEK CHORUS for the beginning of Act 2! Page 25 is AAAAAAAALLL NANCY! She is the ONLY ONE who speaks! For the ENTIRE PAGE!"
I always like that line where Molly confirms Sue Ann and Cindy "have been best friends all year!" :)
Oo! Another cut Blair line! But, unlike Nancy, when they cut Blair lines, there are still plenty of Blair lines! lol
"It serves you right. I told you you were too old to be running around like a kid."
"too old"?? She's, like, 15!
Nancy: "What's the difference? We're talking about Cindy!" -- I always picture Felice there thinking, "We're sure as hell not talking about Nancy!! " lol
"and she talked me into running" became "She's the one who got me into running!" Interesting...#MajorCindyGeek :D
Cindy gets "bored" at the mention of Roger, lol!
They have Cindy refer to Sue Ann as a "creep" in the script, but it's "jerk" on camera. "Jerk" does sound more like something coming from a tomboy.
Also, this is a VERY interesting scene on its own for the fact that, whereas in the previous scene we had Blair and Sue Ann and Tootie, 3 of the biggest players of season 1 in the same scene, where Blair and Sue Ann have been together through so many episodes, and Blair and Tootie have had some time together, but in the gym we have the VERY RARE combo of Cindy, Natalie, and Nancy---never again do we ever see a scene of these three together!
Molly's line "Tails, Cindy drops out" became the succinct, "Tails, Cindy does".
Also, this is very interesting, and something I never thought of before. Tootie and Molly come down the stairs as the negotiating spokesgirls. Molly and Tootie were seen to be friends in "The Return of Mr. Garrett" when Molly called Tootie over to communicate with Harvey, Molly's dead hamster. And here they are being co-negotiating spokesgirls. A nice little echo of their friendship. :)
Wow, they had Mrs. Garrett call them "guys" at first, instead of "girls"! lol...that does feel weird using "guys" on such a heavy female show, like if Rose walked in on "The Golden Girls" and said, "Hey, guys!" lol
I like how Cindy remarks on Mrs. Garrett's printmaking more than Sue Ann does. :)
(TO BRADLEY, INDICATING ANGRY GIRLS)
Bradley's "looking" to knock 5 seconds off becomes "hoping" to knock 5 seconds off.
Oh wow, cut dialogue all about trophies! Interesting! I like Mrs. Garrett's: "I don't know why they call these things 'loving cups'. This hasn't generated any love around here."
"Now neither one of you is standing next to somebody she hates" --- I much prefer the aired show, with the active stance of "has to" instead of the passive "is", along with the ending intensity of Blasting Garrett™ : "Now neither of you has to stand next to someone she hates!"
Oo! A cut Sue Ann line!
Cindy: "I never said I hated her."
Sue Ann: "No."
Hmm, interesting they cut that...
"When I heard you beat my record, I saw red"....seeing red became "I was jealous". That's right, Sue Ann's not a bull, she's a human, lol.
(HAND EXTENDED, GARBOESQUE) ---haha!
Awww, "End of Show"---sniff! lol...
WOO-HOO!! A semi-Cindy script!! THANK YOU "SANTA RETRO"!!! LOL :D

"and she talked me into running" became "She's the one who got me into running!" Interesting...#MajorCindyGeek :D
Cindy gets "bored" at the mention of Roger, lol!

RetroGuy2000 12-11-2018, 01:42 AM Hey, what's with the cast list?? All the names are spelled right!
I know! They're usually full of mistakes. It was shocking that they got the names spelled right!
Did anyone else notice the Make-Up, Hair, and Wardrobe times don't match up with the other times?
No, to be honest, I've been focused on the lines, "seeing" scenes and lines that never made it off the paper.
"You'd think that little 'E' makes their daughter Tracy Austin" --- I keep forgetting to Google that to see whoever this 1970s Tracy Austin person is. I guess some fast runner before our time!
She actually was a tennis player!
https://i1.wp.com/parentingaces.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/tracy-austin-1978.jpg
And only Tootie says she's winning at checkers? Interesting---I'm so glad they added Nat's version of the line to show they can't even tell who's winning. That's a cute moment there.
I agree: the broadcast version is better, there.
(CINDY DOES A BACK FLIP) --- wow, it's a good thing Julie Ann Haddock just happened to be a gymnast! haha (I'm sure they probably checked with her first, lol)
Bwahaha! I actually suspect she impressed the producers with her backflip, landed the part, and then they wrote it into the script.
Funny, they scratched out Tootie's "Yeah" and put "That's right" instead, but on the aired show she goes back to "Yeah", lol!
I suspect this one went through many revisions. Blue scripts, white scripts, pink scripts, yellow...
Hey, we learn about Sue Ann's summer plans! She'll be spending the summer in Wichita!
YES! A nice Sue Ann detail!
(and Nancy is being very good at wallpaper here---she hasn't even appeared on camera yet! It's the other 6 girls and the 2 adults! Poor Felice...in nearly every scene in the backdoor pilot, and they don't even give her a background appearance here yet...)
Yes, and so I suspect someone on the writing staff hated her.
(GIRLS REACT AND CHANT, "CINDY, CINDY, CINDY,")

Felice snuck in. It was the only way she was going to get any lines in this episode!
Oo! A CUT SCENE!! WOW!!
YEP!
Garrett: "Yeah, the President runs."
Molly: "And he fainted."
Interesting though they have Natalie say, "It's healthy", whereas you would think they would give that line to, maybe, Molly, for instance.

Exactly. Another piece of the puzzle!
Yeah, it would have been nice to see Blair in a designer track suit!
"Roger gets excited at supermarket openings." Interesting! In the aired show they change it to "Roger gets excited in haircuts.", lol---the "haircuts" makes him sound weirder, but the "supermarket openings" makes him sound cornier, haha---I like that one!
The supermarket one makes sense. The haircut one... I have always wondered what it meant. It sounds creepy.
RetroGuy2000 12-11-2018, 01:55 AM ACT II

This might have been the episode where she went to the producers and said "where's my part?! Where's my character?! I get "fast finish" and "Roger gets excited at haircuts"?!
So they gave her back her previously-cut line, "What do you mean it sounds sexy?"
I always like that line where Molly confirms Sue Ann and Cindy "have been best friends all year!" :)
Not only is it cool that they've been best friends (and seemingly roommates), we later get this continuity in later seasons: we always see them together. In Season 2, 3, and 8, they are inseparable.
Nancy: "What's the difference? We're talking about Cindy!" -- I always picture Felice there thinking, "We're sure as hell not talking about Nancy!! " lol
Felice had to have been thinking just that.
Wow, they had Mrs. Garrett call them "guys" at first, instead of "girls"! lol...that does feel weird using "guys" on such a heavy female show, like if Rose walked in on "The Golden Girls" and said, "Hey, guys!" lol
I think FOL was an early prototype of The Golden Girls. As you say, "girls" makes more sense, here.
Oh wow, cut dialogue all about trophies! Interesting! I like Mrs. Garrett's: "I don't know why they call these things 'loving cups'. This hasn't generated any love around here."
It's a nice line. Too bad they couldn't keep it.
"Now neither one of you is standing next to somebody she hates" --- I much prefer the aired show, with the active stance of "has to" instead of the passive "is", along with the ending intensity of Blasting Garrett™ : "Now neither of you has to stand next to someone she hates!"
Yep: the broadcast line is so much stronger.
WOO-HOO!! A semi-Cindy script!! THANK YOU "SANTA RETRO"!!! LOL :D
You are so very welcome, '80s! I knew both you and Lorimar would enjoy this one! And I do, too! So much to love!
RetroGuy2000 12-11-2018, 02:00 AM Too funny. Facts of facts podcast even mention how producers couldn’t even bother to come up a quick habit for Nancy to mention.
Yep! They noticed it, too. Dominick's theory, that Felice must have offended the writers somehow, is an intriguing one. Why else would they refuse to even give her character a nervous habit?

True reminds me of Family Matters with Judy, so many times they could've just referenced her, even before her character was living wallpaper. I remember one episode when Harriette's long lost father returns she says "I see Carl with Laura *long beat* and think how I never had that", I wonder if they muted her saying, "Or Carl with Judy", it was a really odd long pause, but why not mention her?

It's even worse with family members than it is with students at a school. At least with students, you can theorize they're on the other side of the campus most of the time. But that doesn't work in a house.
The Judy situation -- along with Chuck and Brendan... is just creepy.

True, Im just talking about when she was still on the show and was oddly not mentioned.

Yeah, that was strange, too.
'80sSitcoms 12-11-2018, 06:15 PM Sorry Retro, looks like Retrikins is sticking :p
Hey, we learn about Sue Ann's summer plans! She'll be spending the summer in Wichita! Then she returns to room with Cindy again while Blair is forced to work in the kitchen
Haha! Good point! Sue Ann gets to tell Cindy all about the exotic locale of "Wichita!" while Blair plots to go Chug-a-Lugging with Jo, lol.
I’ve only been to one super market opening in my life though
That's more than I've been to! lol

Wow, everyone notices!
'80sSitcoms 12-11-2018, 06:20 PM No, to be honest, I've been focused on the lines, "seeing" scenes and lines that never made it off the paper.
Well of course, but before you dive into the script, it's neat to glance over this first as an appetizer, and that stood out to me.
She actually was a tennis player!
Aha! Mystery solved!
Yes, and so I suspect someone on the writing staff hated her.
It would be so interesting to see the "real story" of what happened with Felice and Nancy for "them" to become wallpaper...
Felice snuck in. It was the only way she was going to get any lines in this episode!
Hahaha! Maybe she wasn't even in the episode, but forced her way into wardrobe, hair, and makeup and "slunk" onto the set!
The supermarket one makes sense. The haircut one... I have always wondered what it meant. It sounds creepy.
Yeah, I'd like some corny Roger, not creepy, lol. And I guess it's just supposed to mean he gets excited at anything.
Why else would they refuse to even give her character a nervous habit?
Well, even though Nancy doesn't tell us her upset-coping habit (not nervous, upset, lol), if you think about it, it's in character for her the way she does it. She does start to ponder it, but then she snaps herself out of it because they're there for their friend, and she feels they need to get back on track with the matter at hand. That's "practical" Nancy for you, also caring more about her friends than herself (hey, maybe that's it---maybe the writers figure Nancy cares more about other girls speaking than herself, so that's why the writers skimped on giving her lines, haha).
Lorimar Television 12-11-2018, 09:03 PM Good point Eights, Nancy didn’t wanna make it about her... except when it comes to
using the phone.

I like how you are savoring every part of the script, like a fine wine.

Maybe, like Joey on Friends, she did an interview where she told a journalist that she wrote most of her parts herself.
That stunt got Joey's character, Dr. Drake Ramore, thrown down an elevator shaft.
Or maybe it was a bit more like Suzanne Somers: she asked for more money, so they reduced her part to a few lines per episode. Who knows?
Yeah, I'd like some corny Roger, not creepy, lol. And I guess it's just supposed to mean he gets excited at anything.
Well, he does. I mean, we saw what happened when Nancy described the girl-fight between Sue Ann and Cindy.

Haha! Possible! But I think we have to dig pretty deep to find an on-screen reason for Nancy's wallpaper-ness. It doesn't seem to be in the scripts, and by the next season, she is the most featured of the Lost Girls: she gets a decent storyline in "Gossip", and three episodes per season. No one else got that.

Well, that got Roger excited in the teenage boy way, lol.

You know, I've been thinking about this the last couple of days. We always say around here how "Gossip" is a Nancy episode, ironic after she was the first one hired but the first one fired, but if you really stop and think about it---it's not a Nancy episode. The episode is more like split into two story lines: Nancy gets the first part of the script (with maybe about 12 lines? When I was going over it in my head anyway, lol), and then Mrs. Garrett's gossip story takes over and remains the main story for the rest of the episode.
So it's more like a "half a Nancy episode".
(but shhh, don't tell Nancy! lol)

I mean its more than she had before on FOL, and she's not even a regular so it's pretty good.

Oh absolutely Lorsie, no argument from me---heck, from season 1, it practically does feel like a Nancy episode just because she's so prominent in the first third! ("half"? but maybe not quite half)....but yeah, I was just thinking from the technical standpoint of an episode about someone featuring that character all throughout the episode.
Lorimar Television 12-12-2018, 01:40 AM True I wouldn’t say she’s the main character. Mrs G and Tootie are more

You are correct. I just an informal line count, and here are my findings for "Gossip":
Tootie: 63 lines
Mrs G: 60
Blair: 37
Jo: 27
Nancy: 21
Natalie: 16
Mr. Harris: 15
Cindy: 5
Howard: 3
Sue Ann: 2
Nancy is "up there" between Jo and Natalie, as if she's still a regular cast member. No Lost Girl would get that privilege again until Sue Ann in Season 8's "The Little Chill".
Lorimar Television 12-12-2018, 02:55 AM Ugh so sad that Sue Ann went from having the main plot in the season 1 finale to having the least amount of lines in her return episode. Howard had more lines?!

Wait a minute---Nancy had 21 lines?? Are you sure?? Going over it in my mind, I thought it was more like 12! You are talking the aired show, right? And not each sentence, but lines? (I think you and I found before that we mutually agree a "line" is whatever one character says before another character speaks, no matter how many sentences may be in that "line"). I admit I could have missed some lines in my head, but nearly half?? I'm--I'm just floored! I mean, she doesn't even talk for the latter two-thirds or so of the show!
Howard had more lines?!
I'm surprised Cindy had 5 while Sue Ann had only 2! You'd think they'd be equal.
How does my Cindy have 5 lines, though? I'd think more like 3?
"Hey Tootie, how about coming up to our room tonight?"
"Of course not. Who would we tell?"
"You guys, you guys---Mrs. Garrett!"
"What'd she say?"
Okay, so there's 4 I can think of anyway, lol.

I admit I could have missed some lines in my head, but nearly half?? I'm--I'm just floored! I mean, she doesn't even talk for the latter two-thirds or so of the show!
Not quite true: she gets a line in about Tootie's blabbing could maybe help Mrs. G. by getting her some professional help, and that's in the final act.
I'm surprised Cindy had 5 while Sue Ann had only 2! You'd think they'd be equal.
That's why I have long suspected that two or three of those Cindy lines were originally meant for Molly, and were hastily reassigned to Cindy, when Molly didn't agree to do another guest spot, having tried it out and having not liked it.
How does my Cindy have 5 lines, though? I'd think more like 3?

I counted them myself. You're welcome to recount, but our numbers won't be off by much.
Well I'm stunned...just...stunned! (a la Blanche Devereaux, lol)
I went to DailyMotion, but I only count 17 lines for Nancy when she douses Blair's blouse with ice, so that would make her one line in the final scene 18 lines. I wonder where our disconnect over the other 3 are? I was counting every time Nancy spoke between lines of other characters. That's odd that you and I consider a "line" the same thing, yet have a different count. Here's what I've got:
Hallway: 2
"Eavesdropping again, Tootie?"
"It, uh, usually helps to open the door."
Girls' Room: 10
"I just got off the phone...
"We were going to meet in NY..."
"Sure Tootie,..."
"I would, but..."
"What I meant was..."
"Roger?..."
"Tootie, what are you..."
"Tootie, have you ever..."
"He what?!"
"I'll kill him!..."
Cafeteria: 5
"There you are, you...you..."
"Don't play innocent with me..."
"You know you're trying..."
"Are you denying..."
"A very close friend..."
Cafeteria (later): 1
"Look at it this way..."
She did have several more lines in the ice scene than I'd remembered!
But I wonder how we're "off" by 3? Unless there are a few lines on the DVD that were edited out of syndication? I don't know by heart, I'd have to look at a disc. Or maybe are you counting, let's say, what I consider one "line", two "lines" if she's interrupted by audience laughter? I still count that as one line.
Not quite true: she gets a line in about Tootie's blabbing could maybe help Mrs. G. by getting her some professional help, and that's in the final act.
Oh, that's right. I forgot she has that 1 line (back to the good ol' Nancy, lol).
That's why I have long suspected that two or three of those Cindy lines were originally meant for Molly, and were hastily reassigned to Cindy, when Molly didn't agree to do another guest spot, having tried it out and having not liked it.
Well, no offense, but I hope that theory isn't a true one. As much as I love Cindy, I want the writers to have purposefully written all 5 of these lines for her. :) Based on Molly's 1980s magazine comments, my own personal theory is she let the show know right away how hurt she was from that experience, and not to contact her for any more appearances, so she cut herself off pretty immediately (of course, I will have to wait to confirm this when she and Julie Anne and I have lunch).
You are missing "You did!", Cindy's response to Tootie's question, "Who said she was a drinker?"
Ah! Yes. Guess who just reminded me of that? "You did!"
Lorimar Television 12-13-2018, 12:41 AM Did you mention the beginning lines? "Do you have the business section..." "I really want my hair to shine"
'80sSitcoms 12-13-2018, 12:54 AM Did you mention the beginning lines? "Do you have the business section..." "I really want my hair to shine"
Eureka! That's it!! Nancy was in the beginning of the episode! See?? I had completely forgotten because she was always cut out of that scene in syndication! Oh wow, I feel like I'm seeing a new Lost Girl scene all over again! :D
Okay, so, that gives us:
Cafeteria (earlier that morning): 3
"Oh great!..."
"I already have plans..."
"Can't, Tootie..."
That's it! The missing 3 lines! Way to go, Lorsie! :D
I could now delete all that stuff about the line count discrepancy in my previous post, but that was a lot of work, so I'm leaving it for posterity.
(and psst, Lorimar---Nancy wants the entertainment section, not the business section ;) )
But, yes, in syndication, the show opens with Tootie's line after Nancy's exit:
"Hey guys! I heard some really hot gossip about our headmaster!"
And when Hallmark "created cold openings" (or, more warmly known as "teasers", lol) for their showings, this is also where they started the beginning of that scene as well, before they inserted the intro theme into the middle of the scene.
RetroGuy2000 12-13-2018, 12:57 AM Did you mention the beginning lines? "Do you have the business section..." "I really want my hair to shine"
Yes, I think those are the lines '80s is missing. At least, I don't see them listed above.
'80s, it's the section where Jo, Blair, Mrs. Garrett, and Nancy are divvying up the New York Times, the world's only civilized newspaper. Then Nancy turns down Tootie's offer to play Monopoly.
For a Lost Girl to get more lines than a Core Four regular is almost unheard of. Outside of the first season, of course, I think it only happened in "Gossip" and "The Little Chill". Cindy and Molly never got a "featured" episode, sadly. But I'm glad Sue Ann and Nancy did.
RetroGuy2000 12-13-2018, 01:16 AM Well, no offense, but I hope that theory isn't a true one. But the scripts for the first dozen episodes would have already been drafted prior to their taping starting in November. "Gossip"'s production number was #9. What is often, but erroneously, stated here as a "writers' strike" in 1980 was actually the Screen Actors Guild and AFTRA actors' strike (https://www.cnn.com/2013/08/29/us/screen-actors-guild-fast-facts/index.html), which ended October 23, 1980. The scripts for the episodes would have been written over the summer, with the actresses (and Hugh) coming back to production in November.
Certainly, there would have been re-writes up until, and including, the day of taping, but not even 3rd place NBC would have begun production of the second season without a series of already completed scripts.
Molly couldn't have resigned until after TNG part 2, taped in late November.
Ah! Yes. Guess who just reminded me of that? "You did!"

Nancy: 6
Sue Ann: 5

RetroGuy2000 12-13-2018, 11:28 PM I'm very grateful to have had "The New Girl, Part 2", "Gossip", "Sex Symbol", "Front Page", "Pretty Babies", "Dear Me", "Green-Eyed Monster", "The Way We Were, Part 1", "The Way We Were, Part 2", and "The Little Chill". While I wish there were 100 more episodes with the Lost Girls (or even that they had never been let go in the first place), it does feel like we almost got another season, or half a season, of Lost Girls goodness.
Once an actor is fired, many sitcoms don't bother even mentioning what happened to the character, let alone bring them back occasionally. This show was better than many '80s sitcoms, and I appreciate that. There was some effort at continuity, though I think that largely fell apart in the later years of the show.

Very little. In part 1, in a flashback, we see Sue Ann featured very briefly, and I think Nancy briefly, as well. In part 2, in a flashback, we see the back of Nancy's head. That is all.

Just checked. Sue Ann, Cindy and Molly can briefly be seen in Part 1, in the "Tootie's skates" flashback, for about one second. Then Mr. Bradley gets a couple of lines. Sue Ann, Molly, Nancy, and Cindy can then be seen upstairs, as Mr. Bradley lectures Tootie. We then see Molly and Cindy in the background. Then we see Sue Ann briefly jogging in place in the flashback of "Running", and Cindy and Molly in the background of the "IQ" flashback.

So none of the lost girls speak? :(
RetroGuy2000 12-14-2018, 07:46 PM So none of the lost girls speak? :(
Weirdly, I was sure Sue Ann gets a line in one of the flashback clips, but I didn't see it in the version on DM.
Lorimar Television 12-14-2018, 10:38 PM How long is the episode?
RetroGuy2000 12-15-2018, 03:28 AM It's usually two episodes, so about 44 minutes.
Lorimar Television 12-15-2018, 03:30 AM I was wondering if the runtime could determine if anything was cut or not
'80sSitcoms 01-16-2019, 10:33 PM Hey! I'm watching "The Goldbergs", and tonight's new episode started out with:
"Back in the '80s, Americans were obsessed with running, from Flo Jo and Carl Lewis, to 'Chariots of Fire'."
Well, I wish they had changed it to:
"Back in the '80s, Americans were obsessed with running, from Sue Ann and Cindy, to 'Chariots of Fire'."
