Reference to Sue Ann covering for Blair in Dope. They wonder why Nancy all of a sudden decided to come upstairs to the girls room as she's never done that before. How there's no phone in the room. She IS the only lost girl to do so in the cafeteria bedroom if I remember correctly.

Reference to Sue Ann covering for Blair in Dope.
How does Sue Ann cover for Blair? What are they meaning?

They wonder why Nancy all of a sudden decided to come upstairs to the girls room as she's never done that before.
Well I've always believed it's implied that she has. It's only natural for the Lost Girls to have visited the Exiled Girls in their room.

How there's no phone in the room.
Of course there's not, this is probation, not Paradise!

She IS the only lost girl to do so in the cafeteria bedroom if I remember correctly.
Yup, the only girls to go in that room at all are, I believe, Nancy, Alison, Annie, and Alexandra (if you're a girl, you have to have an "a" and an "n" in your name to get past the door, lol).

New episode is up. This week they discuss “Gossip”. At approximately 1:00:14, Britt shares that Julie Piekarski dm’d her on Twitter to say hi. Britt shared a link to FOF’s first episode in return...! Julie Piekarski now has an open invite to FOF.

Weirdly, the episode hasn't shown up in my iTunes feed. Not sure what's going on.

Dominick tries to justify for us lost girl fans that Sue Ann and Cindy were resentful of Mrs G for ignoring them lately, spending all her time with the new girl Jo even though they're the good kids not stealing the school van.

As Sitcommania mentioned Britt was DM'ed by Julie on twitter. She pronounced her last name like I thought it was pronounced "puh-kar-ski" instead of "pie-kar-ski" but its an easy mistake. Britt responded saying "we love you"

They hope to have her on the podcast and feed her with some Chinesefood, as Mr Bradley calls it, in honor of Dieting.

Um, no, they weren't. Cindy was wearing, as Margie Peters would say, "pornographic shorts", and Sue Ann was wearing something different, surely; at least, her hair was vastly different, anyway. But I think her outfit was somewhat different too.

What was the Cindy reference?

Haha I think they meant it was similar: Cindy in a sports outfit, Sue Ann in whatever. Just that she questioned her sexuality in the pilot.

I mean, they do help Tootie. Plus they were only going by what Tootie said. If it was true they might've told out of concern. As Nat says later on, it could really help Mrs G in the long run.

Oh Retro, there you go again being so hard on our girls!
Tootie was the rootie of the problem (see what I did there?), so I'm glad we saw her learn her lesson (and really, it was the whole campus taking part), although, what I have a problem with is how suddenly and easily Blair and Jo agree to help her out. This is just MOMENTS after they yell at her and compete to see who clobbers her first. Jo got badmouthed on campus, friendships were (temporarily) torn apart, but it's "Wait'll I GET you!" and then 2 second later, "Come on, we'll help her :)"

I was a bratty younger sibling in my day, and I bet if I had caused that kind of bad drama among my sister and her friends, they sure wouldn't have been so agreeable to help me out of my punishment so soon after causing such fireworks.

It seems more natural if Blair and Jo walked away seething*, and the other girls helped Tootie. Or if Tootie had given a sincere lengthy apology of learning her lesson, then I could understand them helping her more.

Since there were 10, 12 girls in that scene, Tootie had no shortage of help. ;)

*(I can no longer use this word without thinking of The Croc's funniest part in TGS!)

They mention what you mention: that it seems unrealistic for Blair and Jo to help Tootie when they were mad at her seconds earlier.

But I posit the idea that they saw a young kid tasked with a gigantic chore that she'd only manage with great difficulty, saw the good example set by Natalie, and their hearts softened.

And even still, Cindy and Sue Ann should have been punished in some way. Volunteering to help out someone else who has been punished is not actual punishment.

Fine, but their hearts softened too quickly to be believable for the situation, IMO. It feels very contrived to me.

And even still, Cindy and Sue Ann should have been punished in some way.
Well, even if they did deserve any punishment, that wouldn't fit the structure of the episode. This was Tootie's story. As a viewer, Blair and Jo's sudden 180 is much more bothering and jolting to me.

I'm sure that's a question Britt asks herself every episode. I guess she agreed to do it as a favor to Dominick, and doesn't have the heart to go back on her promise.

Admittedly, Britt does an often-excellent Mrs. Garrett impression, so I'm glad she has continued doing the podcasts. It's also nice getting the perspective of a FOL virgin. I still can't believe there was any American alive in the 1980s who has never seen The Facts of Life, and it makes me wonder if Britt was raised in a cloistered nunnery or something.

Well they have to do something, and their expertise is in the kitchen. And it's not "their reaction to it", it's something they're doing for Cynthia once she comes to (which, unfortunately, we know doesn't happen).

Like Lorimar, I multitask: I usually listen to FOF Podcast while posting on this board. So when SM or Lorimar post that a new episode is up, I turn on the podcast.

Sometimes, I wish they wouldn't go into so many tangents that have nothing to do with FOL. But you take the good, you take the bad, and there you have... well, a messy podcast that at times is quite amusing, sometimes disrespectful of some young actresses, always profane... but... um... what was I saying?

I listen for any Lost Girls content, because D&B have been better than they used to be. Not sure what I'll do after Season Three, when we get past "Green-Eyed Monster". As you know, after that, it's just flashbacks and one final, glorious (to me) episode: The Little Chill.

For mentioning Retros comment they sure do have a lot of dirty talk in this ep, more than usual. I guess the subject let them run wild....

Heres a rundown of lost girl stuff:

-Dom thought Homerun Helen was Nancy at first when Blair was scooping food for her.

-Apparently HRH was always behind Nancy in her scene so it looks like a twilight zone episode. Joking that HRH was staring at Nancy the whole time trying to say she's her older sister, or even Nancy herself after Roger gets her pregnant.

-Dom comments Cindy is starting to look a little old for braids.

-The guest comments how interesting it is that brought back these girls just to $%&^ on Natalie.

-They all agree that its interesting that the 3 share the same exact POV and may be why they got rid of them.

-They say Cindy's Frank Sinatra joke was awful.

-How weird it is that Nancy is prudish since she has Roger.

-Joke that the lost girls are locked in a closet starved for a storyline and ate Molly to survive.

-Roger says all the Bates boys are trying to get a date with Natalie. Not a particularly interesting note but I myself don't remember this line, must have forgot.

-They comment Nancy only has Roger and her records. Cindy had the lesbian thing but now just has the braids.

-Point out that Tootie is hypocritical considering she, Blair, and Jo were laughing at the idea of Nat as a sex symbol but when the lost girls do it she's mad at them.

-They wonder how Nat could have a worse reputation than HRH

-When they get to Sue Ann saying "You can do during the day what you do at night" they mention how Sue Ann likes afternoon delight. Im guessing they mean Julie Pie?

-Dom thinks it could've been interesting bringing the lost girls around regularly to antagonize the main girls. Dom says Sue Ann and Nancy are believable at being mean but Cindy seems more sweet. She also seems 40? Britt responds "Whatever I don't even bother about her". Eights right now --->:sarah:

But it was her hair trademark.

-The guest comments how interesting it is that brought back these girls just to $%&^ on Natalie.
Yup, exactly.

-They all agree that its interesting that the 3 share the same exact POV and may be why they got rid of them.
Um, they only had the same POV here AFTER they were gotten rid of (hello!).

-They say Cindy's Frank Sinatra joke was awful.
What "Frank Sinatra joke"??

-How weird it is that Nancy is prudish since she has Roger
Yes, but she and Roger were (in my faniverse) chaste; they had never gotten so advanced by that point.

-They comment Nancy only has Roger and her records. Cindy had the lesbian thing but now just has the braids.
Um, hello? And her athleticism.

-Point out that Tootie is hypocritical considering she, Blair, and Jo were laughing at the idea of Nat as a sex symbol but when the lost girls do it she's mad at them.
No, it's different. Tootie, Blair, and Jo laughed at the idea people could actually think Natalie would be "that kind of girl". The Lost Girls actually believe Natalie's bad reputation (despite their having lived with her the previous year---bad writing decision).

-When they get to Sue Ann saying "You can do during the day what you do at night" they mention how Sue Ann likes afternoon delight. Im guessing they mean Julie Pie?
It sounds like they're insinuating Sue Ann likes having fun with boys in the afternoon.

-Dom thinks it could've been interesting bringing the lost girls around regularly to antagonize the main girls.
Um, sure, "interesting", but betraying their characters (Lost Girls).

Weirdly, none of the FOF Podcast people caught that it was Sue Ann who tapped Jo on the shoulder at the beginning of the episode; Dom claims it's a girl we've "never seen" before. They also don't catch that Jo is rolling her eyes at Blair, and they wonder why the audience laughs.

They also mentioned Molly's bolo-type tie that Natalie wears at the beginning of this episode.

Their theory that Mr. Bradley transferred to Bates was pretty cute, as is the theory about where they were keeping the Lost Girls (in that attic space they later kept Kevin, and apparently ate Molly).

I also laughed at Dominick's comment about George Clooney and Nancy McKeon having the "same hair" for two seasons.

Haha! But actually, Nancy can be seen at 2:41 in this video (https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6osnqm), standing next to Sue Ann. She's wearing a purple dress, while Sue Ann wears orange and Cindy wears a green shirt with a black sweater. Cindy can be seen more easily because she's closer to the middle of the room, and is standing behind Neil by the punch bowl.

At 3:00, Blair walks by Cindy, and Cindy starts to greet her, but Blair walks right by, twice, ignoring her. Maybe this helps explain Cindy's lashing out at Natalie later in the episode: she's jealous of all the time Blair is spending with Natalie and Tootie, and Jo, instead of coming over and hanging out in Dorm B... or at least talking to her at the party!

At 4:00, we see Blair and Nancy talking happily, so Nancy's behavior to Natalie isn't as easily explained.

Yes, it’s cleaner. The host really does like the show, but he skips a lot of funny jokes and moments that happened in the episode; for example, Natalie telling Mrs. G it’s ten minutes before the awards. He uses the act break to kind of interview the guest and it can get a tad boring. Dom and Britt really make a meal out of the episodes, I must admit. Lol

I was in shock. How can you be a Classic TV podcast reviewer and not even know the difference between The Munsters and the Addams Family? Sure, Britt's reviewing an '80s sitcom, but those shows were still being shown in the 1980s, and The Munsters Today aired in the 1980s as well.

I mean, sure, part of the fun of the podcast is Britt being a "FOL virgin", but it just makes me wonder what she was actually watching on TV in the '80s, if she never saw FOL (probably the longest-running sitcom of the 1980s), and doesn't know the characters in The Addams Family or The Munsters.

(And FOF Podcast folks, if you see this, I'd genuinely love that answer!)

I'd like to think so, but if so, who was Molly hanging around? It certainly wasn't Cindy, Nancy, or Sue Ann, who appear in eight episodes, but never with Molly. And it wasn't Tootie, Natalie, Blair, or Jo, either. Heck, it wasn't even Alex, Terry, Brenda, Miko, Emily, or Jenny, who appear in about a dozen episodes, all without Molly.

It's like Molly decides to never been seen again in the cafeteria, after Margo's pieing.

Uh-oh, it's ol' Melancholy Retro again ;)

No, it's not like that all. You see, Molly does hang around them, and regularly visits the cafeteria (certainly daily for lunch). It's just that the camera never captures her there. :)

Now if Molly hadn't appeared around her friends in 50 episodes, I'd say that could be likely, but just a handful of episodes for Lost Girls easily explains Molly's absence by just saying she happened to not be with that girl or those girls those limited # of times.

For instance, "Gossip": Maybe Molly took a stand against mail fraud felony and took up the reins of "Mail Mistress", seeing each and every envelope was picked up only by the addressee! Natalie, Sue Ann, and Cindy could have gotten their mail from their pal Mols before coming back to the cafeteria in their separate re-entries. :)

Haha great points. And I’m sure molly didn’t pay any attention to the gossip about Natalie. A woman can be as sexual as a man anyway. No way she would audition for that photographer either, no man will judge her worth!

I actually like B&S. Part of is nostalgia, for I vividly remember watching it at my grandparents'. But Tootie and Natalie are there throughout the episode, so I like how they keep some of the girls around for it. I like BAB too for the '80s-New-Yorkness of it, and the "Fame" feel. I was just glad they were discussing the actual show. 75% of the content of their podcasts have been dick jokes or calling Tootie psychopathic, insinuating Jo's a lesbian, dissing Sue Ann, or calling attention to the fact that Mrs. Garrett mentions her own butt often (they're not wrong, there). They definitely find plenty to lampoon. Britt did say she's enjoying Season Three more, but I really wonder why. She thinks Tootie's a sociopath, and spends a good part of her time doing Natalie and Mrs. G impressions.

Maybe she was pregnant and just not showing yet. If Nancy had been three months pregnant during "Pretty Babies" in March 1981, she would have given birth around September, which would have made the baby a few months old in November, when "A Baby in the House" was taped. Could have worked perfectly. They just would have needed to change the line "I don't get to see a lot of movies these days" to "I don't get to go to a lot of Donna Summer concerts these days."

Then it would have made sense for The Girls to gather around their friend Nancy, reminiscing about Old Times they never actually had with Allison. The story would have had more impact with a girl we knew, rather than with a girl we'd never seen before, and would never see/hear about ever again.

Then again, I'm glad Nancy appeared in the S3 episodes she appeared in, so maybe it was a blessing in disguise that we didn't see her here.

Since first thinking about this years ago, I've always felt the same way: would have resonated SO much more with Nancy in this role, who would have been the PERFECT choice for it. BUT, then that would have been the end of Nancy! I would rather sacrifice that and have Nancy still be a part of the rest of the series as she is* than lose her to a teen pregnancy.

*(granted we don't see her often at all after that, but at least you still sense she's there at Eastland until "Graduation")

At least we'd heard of Nina before. That would have been much better, though very subtle, continuity. I mean, they could have done Blairy-pie and Nina-kins just as easily as Blairy-pie and Allie-kins.

You know what they could have done, too? Home Run Helen. Sure, she and the girls were never friends, but they were still classmates, and they knew her. A few changed lines could have allowed us to see what happens to girls who sleep around like HRH. Would have been nice continuity.

But having Nina be the teen mother is indeed both subtle and clever. It would explain why she suddenly disappears. And we've even met her father.

I think the actress did a fine job. But from a continuity perspective, this episode wasn't good: it introduced us to a character we've been told was there before, even though we know she was not. And then, after the episode, we never hear of her again, as if she never existed. Which she did not, beyond this sole episode.

This type of one-shot character (https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/OneShotCharacter) is a problem because it requires the viewer to suspend his/her disbelief about ever having seen the character before. We're supposed to imagine that we've previously seen her, ignoring our own memories of previous seasons. Because we had previously even seen other girls who would have been a good fit for this role, it feels lazy to cast an actress in the role of a character who had supposedly attended Eastland, during an era we know she did not.

Not only do we see a lack of continuity for this random character who doesn't belong at Eastland, we lack continuity for characters who would have otherwise better fit this role: characters we'd previously seen before, at Eastland. It's a double-continuity whammy.

Hmmm, true! Though like you guys mentioned, that would be some tricky writing since they didn't seem to regard HRH with much favor.

And no Sitcommania, no problems at all with the Heather Kerr who portrayed Allison (and also brilliantly portrayed teenage Eunice in a flashback episode of "Mama's Family"). She was just fine. It's just odd being in "old home week" with our girls and their good friend whom we never saw in the whole first season. (that's a clever device though of picturing her in "non-aired" episodes---maybe we can even picture her in all 13 episodes, but in other rooms for every scene! )

Their reactions to F.A.C.T. is pretty funny.

Cindy's sidling up to Jo during the cafeteria scene is more food for "lesbian" fodder in the FOF podcast, of course.

Dominik mentions how Sue Ann's Monday morning quarterbacking is irritating.

Yeah, seemed like just a few minutes.

"Front Page" is perhaps my favorite episode of FOL, so it was kinda nice to get others' opinions, even if Britt, ???, and ??? didn't like it.

Dominik’s somber intro made me laugh, but my heart goes out to him! I thought something even worse had happened!

The guests were Britt’s husband, and Cousin Geri correspondent, Peter and Josh, someone who works on the same show as Dominik, which I believe is Alex and Katie on Netflix.

The guys loved Roy; Britt, of course, hated him.

It did sound that way. At first, I wondered if he was making the sad announcement that Britt had had enough, and had decided to end her agony... and her MST3K experience.

It means questioning the decisions of others after the fact (https://www.dictionary.com/browse/monday-morning-quarterback). Dominik felt that, by Sue Ann saying she didn't know if she'd have the chutzpah to write such a story, she was, in some way, questioning Natalie and Jo's decision to run the story.

We won't see Sue Ann or Cindy again for five years, so to me, this episode is very special: the last glimpse of two of the earliest characters on the show... until a reunion five years later. This episode will always have a special place in my heart.

Actually, after this point we never see them on screen again as we know them. When they make their one return later, they're not the same Sue Ann and Cindy, so this is the last time we see "vintage"/"organic" Sue Ann and Cindy.

However, I always see them around the campus in the rest of seasons 3 and 4 with my heart.

I see what you mean, but we still see references to Cindy being a former tomboy, Sue Ann being expected to be successful, Nancy referencing Roger, and even a reference to Molly, so I feel like TLC is, in some ways, more true to their characters than even Seasons 2 and 3, where half of the Lost Girls aren't even mentioned by name, over the course of two seasons.

what with Molly repeatedly calling Eastland a "dump", I really wonder if she stuck around beyond what must have been her Freshman year at Eastland. It's cool, though, that we got to see her there for one full year (1979-1980) and two partial years (1978-1979 and 1980-1981).

Sue Ann made a mistake, and owned up to it (or tried to). She learned her lesson, and by now I'm sure she is a VP.

Sure, Sue Ann lied about flying first class to Sweden, and her big VP job, but we don't know for sure that she was lying about the Bergdorf's outfit... and she clearly was working at that big company... just not in the position she claimed. And we did get to see her hang out with Cindy (a Sue Ann trademark), we heard her ask about Mrs. Garrett (which felt like genuine Sue Ann), Tootie confirmed Sue Ann's good grades (something we remember from the old days), she acted competitively (another Sue Ann trademark), acted sarcastic towards Blair when Blair admitted she wasn't a real blonde (mirroring their old "frenemy" behavior), and we even got a flashback to Sue Ann on that horrible diet during "Dieting". And the way Sue Ann reacted to Jo's covering for her (with that grateful Midwestern look) just felt like classic (or vintage? ) Sue Ann to me.

Sure, a two-parter, where we could have seen Sue Ann talk about Kansas City, Kansas, and her dog, Tiger, and her Eastland trophies, would have been so cool... but I appreciate that the Lost Girls had a real return, not just a bit part, but fairly meaty roles which updated us on characters we hadn't seen in a very long time. It's notable that they didn't do this for any other character on the show: once a character was gone, they were gone. As in... they didn't even exist anymore.

Yep.

I believe we briefly see Mr. Bradley in a flashback in TWWW in Season 5. I don't believe we see Miss Mahoney. We certainly don't see Kevin or Kelly, or George or Howard, or Crocker, Arnold, Willis, or anyone else even in flashbacks. And yet, we see Lost Girls in not just one, not two, but three flashback episodes. And they get a reunion with updates on their lives.

If only Molly had agreed to appear; then they definitely would have made a two-parter. There would have been time for a call to Mrs. G. (by Nancy, of course), time to discuss why Cindy changed her last name, and time for a few "hayseed" jokes for Sue Ann, while still giving Molly plenty of screen time.

Yup!

Regarding your thoughts, what just bothers me (or "sticks in my craw" as they'd say back in Kansas City, Kansas  ) is the fact that it feels like Sue Ann is living a stressful double life in that episode, working at hiding behind a facade instead of being free and relaxed. That's what's irksome to me. I want no-worries Sue Ann, lol.

If season 1 had too many girls, this podcast had two many people in it. David Almeida's Face the Facts podcast is so much more entertaining and professional. Even if he is not a fan of the Lost Girls, I still enjoy their podcasts and Mrs. Garrett imitations.

The Facts of Facts podcast can't even get their facts straight. They had Sue Ann as the girl who lesbian shamed Cindy.
