I'm sure some of you have heard that Caroll Spinney, beloved puppeteer of Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch for nearly 50 years, passed away yesterday December 8th. Learning that was quite emotional for me. And it's beautiful to see this tribute from one of our very own Eastland girls. :heart:

Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch were such a huge part of so many kids' childhood. It's very sad. I think of the Mr. Hooper death episode. Only now, Big Bird has died.

In 1990 I was too young to appreciate the impact of Jim Henson's death. But Sunday and Monday this week I actually went through a grieving process over Caroll, and seeing so many others online going through the same thing, I realize now to a degree what it must have felt like for the public when Jim passed.

If I had been this grown-up age now back in 1990 when Jim died, I would have been bawling.

Sesame Street was a big part of my childhood growing up, and finding out this news made me really sad.

This is 3 "Sesame Street" deaths from characters on "the street" that have happened in December: Mr. Hooper (Will Lee) December 7th, Caroll Spinney (Big Bird/Oscar) December 8th, and Alaina Reed (Olivia) December 17th.

How sad for all those to have occurred in the Christmas season (and at all).

I don't know, i was always more into dramas /romance than comedies: so anything like 'Tom & Jerry', 'Sesame street' or 'Alf' would put me to sleep.....

As a kid, I found soap opera storylines pretty boring. I guess I would have found them more interesting if they had a supernatural element. Daytime soap operas felt so cheap, with the flimsy sets and repeated dialog ("What do you mean you're my long-lost daughter?" [commercial break] "What do you mean you're my long-lost daughter?"). The only thing worse than an American soap opera is a Mexican soap opera: every Mexican soap opera appears to be a retelling of Cinderella.

That said, I love the cheap, flimsy sets of classic Doctor Who, and the tin foil aliens/monsters/robots. Add a supernatural element and I'm hooked! It's why I could watch 8 seasons of Game of Thrones. :lol:

I think you and Christopher are the only two people I've ever seen or heard not express appreciation/fondness/love for Sesame Street. :lol:

Yeah, I remember that episode. Big Bird and Snuffy were running at the playground. Big Bird was showing Snuffy how to pace himself. Then this happened. Luckily, they later made up, when Grover ripped up the photo he'd taken of them.
