I grew up in Vancouver WA which is about 51 miles away from Mt St Helens, after it erupted in 1980, I don't remember for how long, but we had to wear a mask over our mouth and nose when we walked to and from school.

Torgo 08-22-2018, 06:17 PM Back in the 90's, when my wife and I were still dating, out first planned road trip together was driving down the Oregon coast into California.
I'm slowly uploading excerpts, this is just one part of many. This was taken at the Waxworks in Newport, OR. Haven't been there in years so I'm sure most of it has changed.
I did the camera work, we went on the tour of Waxworks, and the Ripley's Believe It Or Not! Museum (vid coming soon), then asked if we could go in with a video camera.
(7 mins long, I originally had different music, but because I was uploading it to Youtube I added public domain music, music was added mainly because some of the audio was bad)

HuntingtonM15 08-29-2018, 12:51 PM I'm just now seeing these photos, and wow, they are phenomenal! Mrs. Torgo certainly has a great eye for taking pictures of landscapes.
I have a friend who is into taking pictures and people often ask her what kind of camera she has to get such good shots. I firmly believe the majority of the credit goes to the photographer, not the camera. The Torgos get all of the credit here!
Do you have any of these in albums or framed?

Ha yeah, these were taken with a cell phone. I do agree though, though I've improved on my photo taking skills by how she takes hers, I still haven't gotten the knack for framing the shot like she does.
We do have some framed and hung about the house. Plus we have a digital picture frame. But no albums, at least for any of the photos from the last few years, everything is on tablets/PC or online.

Torgo 09-23-2018, 10:26 PM These are photos from one of our visit's to the Pittock Mansion in Portland.
Besides being a local landmark, the mansion was also the location used for the 1982 horror film Unhinged. The film has built up a cult following over the years, and was one of the films on the UK Video Nasty List.
While it's neat seeing the Pittock Mansion in the film, and features a nice bloody death scene. I think the film is extremely dull with some very slow dialogue scenes.
In the film the mansion is supposed to be out in the middle of no where in a secluded spot of Oregon, in reality the Mansion is located close to Portland, which is why you don't see any wide shots in the movie.

Haha yeah its an acquired taste, understandable. When my daughter first started painting the dresser she had planned on that being the theme of her room. My mom was going to surprise her by making her a quilt with the same colors, but then my daughter changed her mind and went a different route. I told my mom and she made her a quilt matching the new scheme.:)

Back in my 20s I flirted with the idea of getting into that field, a friend of mine and I even created several different characters and ideas, I still have the stack of pages of the characters and their backgrounds.
Another comic idea we even got as far as drawing and inking a few pages, I'm not sure what happened to those, my friend might still have them.
That one we had the whole story planned out, it was inspired by a short story I wrote for a creative writing class I took in high school.
Torgo 04-20-2020, 09:52 AM My daughter and I converted one of the outbuildings into a little art studio for her: partly so she can be as messy as she wants, plus a place she can get away.

You could still give it a try maybe even use one of those self-publishing sites if they're not too expensive. It might be fun to try it, my son has several graphic novels of The Walking Dead and 30 Days of Night. I've read some of them and liked most of them. That's pretty much the only type of book he will read since it has pictures.

I like a lot of the horror comics/graphic novels. I've read most of the Walking Dead. Also enjoy the Army Of Darkness comics. I tried reading Joe Hill's comic series Locke & Key but couldn't get into it. The Archie horror comic series Archie Afterlife was fun.

We were very lucky, our whole are was without power for 7 days. We ended up staying at my parent's place until the power was back on. During the week I went back to the house to check on it and it felt eerie, there was a constant haze, you couldn't see the sun, everything had a weird color to it.
But still, seeing how close it was to our neighborhood, we kept waiting to hear our area get the evacuation call.

Southeast of Portland, south of Mt Hood.
The wind blew hard so much during the snow that it's hard to judge, some spots a few inches while others knee deep.

Looks pretty there but also looks very cold. We got sleet here but only a tiny bit of snow. The sleet/ice makes it very slippery when you have to go out.

Compared to the midwest and northeast we have mild winters, this has probably been one of the worst winters for us out here. Some parts of the state do get down into the single digits, the coldest it has gotten around here I think has been around 20.
Our winters in the south are usually mild too but this year it's been colder than normal. Did you guys get enough snow to build a snowman?

The main roads and highways were cleared pretty fast, as soon as there is snow cover the snowplows are out. This year was the first year the plows even hit the side roads, so those are clear now too. But there is still tons of snow on the ground in our yard.

Didn't see any bats while we were there, but they have stations set up for cleaning your footwear before going in and after coming out, it's to reduce the chance of fungus being brought in to the cave which can cause the bats to get 'white nose syndrome'.

I was born and raised in Spokane, but the big eruption was two months before I was born. It hit Spokane pretty hard, though (probably not as hard as Vancouver, since you guys were so close to the mountain). It crippled the city for at least a few days. I knew a lot of families growing up who saved the ash in jars.

We have AC that helped, though we didn't run it all the time, it's on the main floor so we mainly used it for when we used the kitchen. We spent most of the time in the basement which thankfully stays fairly cool, than and fans blasting helped a lot. We spent the night down there when the temperature didn't drop lower the the low 90s overnight.
So far it's away from us. Really hoping we don't have a repeat of last year.

You can tell she really likes horses. I've been on a horse twice, and both times the horse went where it wanted to go and not where I wanted it to go. Good thing it was a gentle horse or I would have been in trouble. Has your daughter been riding horses for a long time?

Since she was about 5. The neighbors we lived by in our previous house they would take her riding with their kids, they had horses. I miss walking to the fence and petting the horses as they would always come over to see us when we were in that part of the yard.
