View Full Version : Heatwave Here!
Fleet 07-07-2018, 03:54 PM Definitely a heatwave here in Southern California.
I observed 112 degrees F here yesterday (July 6). The highest temp I've recorded is 114.5 degrees. My records date back to 1980.
Looks like it will be just as hot today... as of 12:45 PM, it is 110.8 degrees.
This image is from the Los Angeles Times newspaper... a great weather section. Very detailed. Note all the temps showing 100 degrees or higher!
NH just had a heatwave, but it's only coming back for like 2 days and that's it.

Yes, I did hear about the northeast heatwave I think about one week ago. 90s and low-100s, I believe.

At least it won’t be most of the week this time around.

That would help.

Well, I've been through heatwaves before.
And this house does have A/C.
Hawkee 07-08-2018, 05:05 AM Our heatwave started on Thursday and it has been so hot Mom had to get our box fan out yesterday and so far the only cool spot in my house is my room and i'm spending a lot of time and having to sleep with a cool blanket at night

Yes!! It's been very hot out here!! :eek:Terrible.:( We only have a window air conditioner in the bedroom, and fans for the rest of the house. Including a ceiling fan in the livingroom. Usually that is just fine, now even that isn't cooling things off that much, unless we are in the bedroom, it's awful lately! :(
Steve_uk 07-08-2018, 12:56 PM We have a heatwave of 82 degrees for several days. I'm not sure it's a good thing to be higher due to the risk of forest fires, water shortages etc.
Our heatwave was during the 4th of July. It's dropped back to the mid 80's over the last couple of days.
OH Nuts! 07-08-2018, 11:03 PM Fortunately, the last two days in NYC have been pretty decent. 100+ temps? UGH! You have my sympathy Fleet.
Bonniegirl 07-09-2018, 12:12 AM Where I am it is rare to get over 100 degrees! Where Fleet lives is North of me and over 100 is common in the summer but NOT usually as hot as 112 !!!
One heat wave I TOTALLY remember was in October of 1987!! Over 100 degrees for a number of days!! Than there was a major earthquake !!! OMG I had just been in California for a short time and it was the first earthquake I ever experienced!! Plus I was 7 months pregnant!!! I was SO scared !!!:( Between the earthquake, and my first pregnancy and it was SO DAMN HOT, and besides my Husband at the time I had NO family out here at all!
And it can still get hot in October out here but that was REALLY HOT!!! Other than that it usually doesn't get over 100 much where I'm at Thank God!!!;)

Not good timing... moving here then an earthquake shortly afterwards!
The max/min temp at Death Valley a few days ago was 121/102 degrees F!
Looks like the heatwave is over for us New Hampshireites.
Janice 07-14-2018, 12:04 AM That's too hot for me. Poor you. June was nice here, but I had a bad feeling, and I was right. Once the heat came, it never quite left. Not 100+, but lots of 90s. It's muggy now. I'd love to move, but where?

I found and yesterday that next week is supposed to be hot for a few days.
Theda Bara 07-16-2018, 12:06 AM I hate the heat. I lose my appetite when it is too hot, and the humidity makes my hair very unmanageable.
Furienna 07-23-2018, 05:53 PM We've got a heatwave (and plenty of forrest fires) over here in Sweden as well. :(
Steve_uk 08-03-2018, 05:31 PM Spain always was the frying pan of Europe in Summer, but the heat has spread to Lisbon, Portugal as a hot mass of air moves in from the Sahara Desert. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/weather/parts-of-spain-on-red-alert-as-heatwave-grips-iberian-peninsula/ar-BBLrBBu?MSCC=1533331661&ocid=spartanntp

Dude111 08-05-2018, 08:14 PM Yes that is sad :(
I would have never guessed it got that hot anywhere in Europe, but I guess Spain would get toasty being close to the Mediterranean.

Yes the Mediterranean is the place to be for sun in Summer. If you place a ruler on a map of Europe from south-west Portugal to southern Norway then that is the rain belt, which passes right through Manchester UK. I have got used to it over the years. 2018 is quite exceptional and although many people are enjoying the heat it does leave problems such as water shortages and forest fires in its wake.
