View Full Version : Angela Watson’s Strange Behavior Towards The End Of SBS

I must say, after listening to Christine’s podcast with Jarrett I’ve gotten hooked in to listening to past episodes. Staci Keanen did a few episodes. One thing that’s sad to find out is apparently Angela Watson had a major falling out with Christine. Christine described them as the closest of the kids for the first 5 seasons. But she started noticing a change in her during season 6. She was losing weight and had this older guy who they think was an agent showing up and lurking on the set the whole time. The strangest moment happened in the final season when Angela showed up to work very late wearing a blonde wig, blue contacts, and a sexy outfit. Christine said she was speaking in an odd high pitch voice saying she’s filming a movie. When questioned about it she would just reply “‪It’s a Disney film where I play a good girl by day and a bad girl by night‬”. The last day of taping Angela left immediately after curtain call and didn’t say bye to anyone. Christine tried to see her again but the only way she could was through some production Angela was doing where Angela tried to avoid seeing Christine but Christine’s boyfriend called her over. She was still acting odd and didn’t really give any explanation for why they aren’t in contact. Angela cut off her own family and refuses to see her parents or half sister. I know the story of her suing the parents but I’m starting to wonder if there’s more to the story than we know. It sounds like Angela’s parents were worried about her. Christine’s parents and them remained friends and would ask if Christine heard from Angela.

Wow! Where does Christine mention this?!

Episode 3 of her podcast is where it starts. She gives an update in episode 38.

After having listened to Episode 3 and Episode 38, as well as Episode 6 with Staci, I'm gobsmacked. It's very clear from what she says that Christine really was hurt by Angela distancing herself from the rest of the cast, and wants, or wanted, answers.

I really wonder now who Angela's creepy agent is/was, and what the deal is with that "studio" and their "projects". The fact that the studio seems to be interchangeable with the PR firm, and seems to have to have the same phone number, is weird. The whole thing feels scammy. Now I wonder if Angela's parents really stole her money.

Thanks for posting this! I hope Angela is well.

As Staci says, it seems like an abusive relationship where she was forced to cut ties with everyone in her life.

It does seem that way. I'd love to hear Angela's side, because otherwise we just have this... horrible impression.

I don't think that letter helped her cause at all. It was nonsensical.

I wonder how things are going for her now. According to her IMDB page, she only did two more things in the acting field after Step By Step ended.

God bless you and Angela always!!!

She's been in plays, too, according to Christine. Which... that was weird, too. Avoiding them after the show?

They also talk about Angela for a while in episode 29 (40 minutes in). Staci said she was in the school room (a tiny trailer on set) with her for years and how they wouldn't hang out much outside of the show, but would talk all day long about their personal lives, deep discussions, etc. It was just the two of them and one tutor.

Angela's parents were apparently very strict and didn't want her to drive, go to parties or date. Christine is still very hurt, to the point where she's had trouble trusting women in her adult life. Their parents are still in touch with each other, but haven't had contact with Angela for over 16 years.

The girls had nicknames and inside jokes and would write letters to each other all the time, then out of nowhere, Angela changed and the letters became very formal, almost written by a publicist. Staci even wrote her saying it's as if she's completely transformed overnight, but again, the reply was formal, almost foreign.

Staci said she saw her at a SAG Award event a few years back, Angela waved and that was it.

Here's a local news interview with Angela from 2017. She's very involved with charity these days. She mentions her grandmother, her "TV mom Suzanne Somers" as well as Christina Applegate.

Thanks, Buffyboy; I appreciate the info, and even the pointer to the part in Episode 29 where Staci and Christine talk about Angela (saved me a lot of time searching the ep). It's clear they both feel the same way about Angela: they even mentioned how cult-like she seems now.

I can definitely see where Christine feels hurt. I hope eventually Angela will reunite with her former co-stars, and maybe explain what happened, from her perspective. Another form letter won't help.

I wonder that, too. Probably not, if she's being controlled by "Gil".

Even if he would allow it, would she still have to wear a blonde wig, blue contacts, and speak in a high-pitched voice, talking about her Disney project where she plays "A good girl by day, and a bad girl by night"? :(

True. But in other episodes, Christine said Gil objected when a script called for Angela to kiss a boy, with Gil insisting that the actor be tested for diseases before he would allow Angela to be kissed, so in the episode, they ended up shaking hands or something. WTH!?

It says that Angela's parents misspent the $2.5 MILLION dollars she earned during 10 years of the show! I'd be pissed too! Gary Coleman of Diff'rent strokes lost $18 MILLION this way!

HOW are these kids THIS stupid?? If I were a 10 year old TV star right now making $100K or $200K per episode I could stipulate that NO ONE touches that money until I turn 18 when I can spend it how I choose!

As far as your parents go you can stipulate in the contract that your parents get a salary of $100K a year or whatever. That leaves you with MILLIONS of dollars when you turn 18!

^^^ I don't know how it wasn't already like that in the first place. I remember seeing Mary-Kate and Ashley in early 2002 talking to Connie Chung and she asked them if they had access to their money. Ashley said, "No. No one does. You have to be 18." They were 15 then.

God bless you and the girls always!!!

The law requires that only 15% of the child's earnings go into a trust fund that can't be touched until the child turns 18.

But if you're opening your own account you can set the terms even as a kid. You may have to have a parent co-sign but you can set the terms. That's what I did when opened a savings account when I was 10.

NO ONE was able to withdraw money from that account but ME! So these child stars can stipulate NO ONE can touch their money like Mary Kate and Ashley did.

So it was really dumb of Gary Coleman and Angela Watson to let this happen! I know this is OT but if 15% of child star earnings can't be touched till age 18 that means Gary got 15% of the 18 million he said his parents lost. So that's a cool $3 million or so Gary got. I wonder why he never mentioned that??

I'm very happy to relay that Christine Lakin and Angela Watson have at last ended their 20-year estrangement and have reunited! You can hear about it, in Christine's own words, on her podcast, at 27 minutes and 20 seconds into this podcast (https://audioboom.com/posts/7147291-episode-67-with-christine-and-alaa-shocking-revelations-reconciliation).

Ever since Lorimar originally posted about the huge rift between these two former friends (which Staci also commented on), there's been a hole in my heart. It made me very sad to hear Christine accuse Angela of allegedly, reportedly, being in an abusive, cult-like relationship, and Angela allegedly, reportedly, inadvertently confirming it through allegedly ridiculous press releases from alleged, reportedly fictional production studios. Hearing the confirmations from Staci made me feel even worse.

Angela (and, in an unrelated twist, Brandon Call) now have an open invitation to appear on Christine's podcast, and it seems as though the rift between Angela and (Christine and Staci) is healing, due to an alleged change in Angela's relationship status. Angela's alleged standoffishness with Christine, Staci, her family, and others is partially addressed in the above podcast, although they were careful with their wording, due to alleged legal stuff and in an effort to potentially protect Angela from alleged legal stuff.

At 49:50 into this podcast (https://audioboom.com/posts/7270011-episode-75-with-christine-and-alaa-alaa-visits-christine-s-parents-atlanta), Christine mentions catching up with Angela, and that Angela would like to do a podcast, when the legal battles are over. That was almost a year ago, and there have been very few podcasts since then: none since June 2019.
