55 year old SeaTac man
Have to believe that this is from another DNA search. Apparently they took his DNA two days ago.
unsolved243 05-18-2018, 02:31 PM 2018 is definitely the year for UM cases being solved!
Arrest made in 1987 murder of young couple in W. Washington (http://komonews.com/news/local/arrest-made-in-1987-murder-of-young-couple-in-w-washington)
More than 30 years after a young Canadian couple were found dead in Western Washington, authorities have made an arrest in the case.
The 55-year-old Sea-Tac man was arrested Thursday in Seattle and is expected to make a court appearance in Skagit County later Friday.
Authorities said the arrest was made through genetic genealogy.
TheCars1986 05-18-2018, 02:35 PM Wonderful news.
cdr369 05-18-2018, 03:17 PM If you committed an unsolved crime, beware!
All these years, he probably thought he would never be caught. Just imagine, how many restless nights he has had over the last couple of decades, as DNA developed.

Yep, this was one of those I thought they had zero chance of solving.

Oh s***. What's the statute of limitations on borrowing a friend's Nirvana Unplugged CD in 1998, and never remembering to give it back?
In seriousness, this is awesome news. I can't wait to see more getting solved!
soilentgreen 05-18-2018, 03:54 PM Good to hear that they've found the perpetrator, he was only 24 in 1987 and who knows what else this guy might have done.
DALLASTEXAN!! 05-18-2018, 04:22 PM SeaTac man. Gives me the creeps spent some time there. Glad this is solved.

Is that where Ridgway found his victims? What they call the “low track”?
dynoguy88 05-18-2018, 06:07 PM Mind = Blown
If you guys got in a time machine, found me in 2014 and told me that over the next four years, this case, Wendy Camp, Matthew Chase, Joyce McLain, Lisa Ziegert, Ashley Freeman/Lauria Bible would be solved...I wouldn't have believed you.
Add to that the fact that Michael Haim goes on trial for Bonnie's murder this October and we're currently waiting to find out the DNA results for remains that are believed to be Mary Ann Perez...that is a ton of progress on some very cold cases.
This case in particular is one of the earliest I remember seeing as a little kid. I'm so happy their families will finally get some sense of closure.

Wendy Camp was a big one I was surprised was solved.
Huskerz85 05-18-2018, 07:47 PM Outstanding. Glad to see some of these old cases from way back when finally getting some closure!
hostedbyrobertstack 05-18-2018, 08:28 PM This is awesome! This is one of my more personal cases, as I started watching UM when I was around the ages that they were murdered, and always felt more for the young victims. It's so strange when you finally put a face to something like this all these years later...for so long, it seemed that "no one" did this crime, but you know someone did...you just never know what that face would look like or who it could be.
WishfulDreamer 05-18-2018, 08:54 PM So happy about this! This is one of the most disturbing cases profiled on UM, and I truly hope this guy's capture will give the families some peace of mind.
Mind = Blown :eek:

Same! I'm just keeping my fingers crossed Brad Bishop will appear on the list, too.

Not to mention the fate of Donald Eugene Webb, something I never thought would happen.
Very, very glad to hear that this case was solved. I too didn't think that it would be.
Proctor 05-18-2018, 10:48 PM Such great and unexpected news. My jaw dropped when I read the article on another site first! Couldn't believe what I was seeing
RaidenKhan 05-18-2018, 11:08 PM Amazing! Can't believe how young he was at the time. So glad they finally got him.
Cheers,
Matt
Cori aka ChrisSCrush 05-19-2018, 12:28 AM So very strange that the sicko who tormented the families by mail was not involved in the murders at all. Wonder how if any this may relate to the Amy Billig case where the sicko phoner may or may not have been involved.
RaidenKhan 05-19-2018, 01:08 AM ^el sicko
XCalibur 05-19-2018, 03:37 AM Remarkable! And the guy is 55? That means he was only about 25 the time of the murder, kind of thought he would be older.
Just goes to show, where there is suspect DNA, there is hope.
This really gets your fighting blood up. No matter how much time passes, you can still be caught.
Two caught like this is flat out amazing.
I have to think there are other killers out there who have for a long time thought they were home free, and are having serious second thoughts and not sleeping quite as well.
Take heed Angela Hammond's killer, you may be next.

Makes some sense as to why they talked to him on the ferry as the theory has always been-if a much older guy started talking to them they likely would have ignored him. Strange there doesn't seem to be any other crimes tied to him though-he just decided one night to rape & kill once & then stopped? One possibility is innocent people got convicted of his crimes if he did more.
cordwainer1453 05-19-2018, 09:44 AM Did that thing about him spending time in prison, by the way he tied them up, turn out not to be true?

I’ve been seen that he only had a conviction for indecent exposure - may not have even been a felony, and I’m not sure if it predates the murders.
GDAWG 05-19-2018, 03:26 PM So how long does it take before there is an update on this during a replay of Unsolved Mysteries?

Tupac case is also more or less solved. They got a confession, but can't prosecute.

Also the identity of the Golden State Killer.

Yes, two of many el sickos out there.

I would honestly be surprised if this was the only crime committed by this guy. The murder was to proficient. I think he will eventually be tied to other rapes and possibly other murders as well.
hostedbyrobertstack 05-22-2018, 12:04 PM I hope we can finally find truth in how this whole story went down. Did he meet them on the ferry? Did he abduct them while sleeping in their van outside of the parts store downtown? I would love to have closure on the entire sequence of events.
1990 UM fan 05-22-2018, 01:02 PM It was mentioned in the Unsolved Mysteries episode that wounds Jay suffered are commonly seen in prison beatings. This guy might be a former inmate, but time will tell.
Tighthead 05-23-2018, 11:19 AM Maybe it is the demise of newspapers, but I’m stunned there isn’t a feature article somewhere telling us more about the accused. Neighbours, employees, etc giving us some backstory.

I imagine something will come up out within the next few weeks.
It took a few weeks after Lisa Ziegert's killer was arrested before we got a backstory on him.

Tighthead 09-23-2019, 06:54 PM The CBC feature was pretty good. Showed a little bit about the forensic genetics and interviewed CeCe Moore.
Talbott lost about 80 pounds between arrest and trial. Looked somewhat less imposing than his mugshot.
Latka Gravas 09-10-2020, 11:49 PM Just saw this UM S02 segment. Very sad & heinous what happened to these two young people.
Glad this cowardly scum-bag that committed the crime(s) was finally caught, even though it was years later. It was strange that the crazy, evil person writing those terrible letters to the parents wasn't the guy who assaulted & killed these two.
For what it's worth, here's a link with more info. about how the case was solved:

TheCars1986 12-08-2021, 08:08 AM It's a minor setback, but the DNA evidence against this guy is still solid. I think he'll be convicted again.

Indeed. This is just delaying the inevitable.
It's a shame that the loved ones of Jay and Tanya have to be put through the ringer again but Talbott will be go back to where he belongs. He can't run from the DNA.
DALLASTEXAN!! 11-19-2022, 01:08 AM I just watched the forensic files 2 episode on this case. A couple of things that stood out to me. they showed a lot more details about the horrible letters that were sent by someone not involved with the crime. I don't understand how someone could do that, I wish that person got charged with a crime. Also it unsettling how a violent rapist and killer can go on living his life that long without even being suspected of any wrong doing. just is a brutal reminder of how scary this segment was the first time I saw it. thankfully the families finally got justice and hopefully there are more cases like this to be solved soon.

The person had long history of mental illness

yeah he really put the families through unnecessary trauma and the guy should be held to account for what he did. they did not really elaborate much other than the guy was mentally ill.
