Hot Jock 04-10-2018, 05:01 PM The Kevin and Bean segment. Those liars. So ridiculous. I know I’m in the extreme minority here, but I don’t really see any problem with the “Confess Your Crime” bit that they aired back in 1990. In fact, if it weren’t for the parents of Angela Cummings completely grasping at straws, this bit would have been all but forgotten within weeks of it airing and rightfully so. The details given in the call were so generic and so vague that I don’t know how anybody could have fallen for it or, at the very least, attempted to tie it to a particular case. The voice of the caller not matching any particular suspect should have been the end of any investigation. Even as a youngster when I first heard the bit, I was convinced it was a prank phone call. Little did I know that the deejays were actually in on it themselves. It was actually quite brilliant when you think about it. Those guys were in their rookie year as deejays and they got a good amount of publicity over this. They’re still on the air to this day, over 28 years later. They obviously did something right. But what do I know? LooksLikeCRicci 04-10-2018, 05:33 PM Fair points. I stand by my statement, though. :) soilentgreen 04-10-2018, 06:18 PM Marvin Gabrion Crackhead Paul Pollis and his merry maid, crime scene cleaning mother. Larry Gibson ended up serving a paltry three years for the killing of his son. As an aside, he acted on UM as if shooting feral cats before a morning jog was a normal thing to do. Completely repulsive individual. Jon 04-10-2018, 06:32 PM Everything about the Su Taraskiewicz case. Such an obvious cover-up. To hell with the people who knew what happened but chose to bury their heads in the sand and cover their own asses. Hot Jock 04-10-2018, 09:28 PM Oba Chandler and Darlie Routier are the two most reprehensible individuals that were profiled on UM to me. I couldn’t narrow it all the way down, so I have awarded the prize of Number One Scum to each different sex. WishfulDreamer 04-10-2018, 09:29 PM I know I’m in the extreme minority here, but I don’t really see any problem with the “Confess Your Crime” bit that they aired back in 1990. But what do I know? I respect your opinion, but I think they should have admitted it before the LAPD dedicated time and money into investigating. I was also rubbed the wrong way by them admitting to UM that lying about such a thing would be a "definite line you don't cross" while crossing that line and blatantly lying. Agree to disagree though. It's very interesting to hear a minority opinion on this one, and makes for good discussion. :) WishfulDreamer 04-10-2018, 09:33 PM One of the cases that makes me angriest? Kenneth McDuff. This guy never should have been out of prison in the first place after committing multiple murders. I can only hope the people responsible for making this decision were somehow punished or stripped of their positions. Also infuriating is the Baby Jane Doe case. It would have been all too easy to leave the poor child at a hospital or somewhere else...and this couple chose to beat her to death. This case makes me so sick to my stomach and enraged that the guy was never caught. Jade_Curtiss 04-10-2018, 09:38 PM Oba Chandler Oh God, I had forgotten about that case (probably blacked it out because it was so terrible!) That whole story broke my heart. TheCars1986 04-11-2018, 06:27 AM Christophe Day Mike82 04-11-2018, 08:23 AM Also infuriating is the Baby Jane Doe case. It would have been all too easy to leave the poor child at a hospital or somewhere else...and this couple chose to beat her to death. This case makes me so sick to my stomach and enraged that the guy was never caught. As someone who wanted a child more than anything and lost both of them, I can't tell you how angry and upset this makes me. I or anyone in my shoes would gladly take the baby and even pay them $$$. This was not a case of postpartum psychosis or other mental illness since they went to a secluded area and both of them did it (or at least she never even attempted to stop him). As well, think of how traumatizing that would be to witness! Can I please beat both of them to death with a rock? Having gotten that off my chest, I will still have to go with the David and Cynthia Dowaliby case. I still can't believe that they were treated in such a cruel, unfair manner on top of losing their daughter. I can't say with 100% certainty they are innocent (only 99.99%) but the 'evidence' is beyond laughable and yet they were able to convince a jury. Makes you wonder how many other people like David are wrongfully convicted based on law enforcement looking to just get a conviction of any type. What's even more bizarre is how David was convicted but not Cynthia solely because an unreliable witness claimed to have seen a nose resembling David's from a football field away! Not a face, not height, weight or hair but a nose! You can't even make this stuff up! This case makes you realize how you can be convicted of a crime even when there is zero solid evidence or motive, it defies all logic and common sense and in this case there IS a potential suspect with a very weak alibi (Tim Guess). Is there something in the water in Illinois? EighthStreet 04-11-2018, 09:18 AM http://unsolvedmysteries.wikia.com/wiki/Wendy_Camp,_Cynthia_Britto,_and_Lisa_Kregear The white trash garbage that was Chad Noe and Ida Pruitt. The audacity to be part of a conspiracy to murder two women and a child, dump them in a septic tank, and then sit in front of a national audience and lie about it. That's the only time I've been actually angry over over an update. dynoguy88 04-11-2018, 10:47 AM I know I’m in the extreme minority here, but I don’t really see any problem with the “Confess Your Crime” bit that they aired back in 1990. In fact, if it weren’t for the parents of Angela Cummings completely grasping at straws, this bit would have been all but forgotten within weeks of it airing and rightfully so. I don't agree with that at all. The radio and LA Police stations were flooded with calls from hopeful family members of unsolved murder victims after that phony confession was broadcast over the air. Angela Cummings' mother was just one of the many from that area and time who were given a sense of false hope as a direct result. If you watch the update interview with Angela's mother (though it's not included on Amazon Prime) she never said that this was a case closed foregone conclusion when the "confession" was first aired. She simply said she got a phone call from an investigator who told her they might have a lead on her daughter's case. As a result, she was given a smidgen of hope that something would be done, something COULD be done, which were her exact words. Sadly after 20+ years, there STILL has been no resolution to her case. I think it was brilliant of UM to include Angela's mother in the update because it gave the viewers a face and voice of just one of the many grieving people who were essentially given the middle finger by Kevin and Bean. Not to mention the Unsolved Mysteries crew, who were played to look like fools after they asked the DJ's point blank if this was all a publicity stunt before airing this segment coast to coast. Kudos to them for making it clear to the public what those two a**holes did. Hot Jock 04-11-2018, 08:51 PM I don't agree with that at all. Which is why I prefaced my post by saying, “I know I’m in the extreme minority here...” This “case” (if you even want to call it that) was “solved” 28 years ago so everyone’s opinion on it is already formed and isn’t going to change. Any way you slice it, that pig-faced bitch, Nancy Grace, has said and done far worse things on national television. If Kevin & Bean are “a**holes” just for a generic radio bit that didn’t actually harm anybody almost three decades ago, than that redneck pig is the goddamn spawn of Satan for all of her stunts she’s pulled that have actually ruined people’s lives. freakbook 04-11-2018, 09:18 PM Having gotten that off my chest, I will still have to go with the David and Cynthia Dowaliby case. I still can't believe that they were treated in such a cruel, unfair manner on top of losing their daughter. They both should be rotting in prison. They're lucky that's all they got. WishfulDreamer 04-11-2018, 09:18 PM As someone who wanted a child more than anything and lost both of them, I can't tell you how angry and upset this makes me. I'm so sorry for your loss. Yes, I just can't watch this case. I'm glad they caught the woman, but it infuriates me that she also refuses to name the man. These people had absolutely no reason to do this. If they didn't want a baby, they had multiple options to relinquish custody. They're nothing short of monsters. Mike82 04-12-2018, 07:18 AM They both should be rotting in prison. They're lucky that's all they got. Am I missing something about this case? I've researched this case thoroughly and everything about it tells me they got screwed royally by not only the police but their own community. Even assuming they are both guilty how on earth were they convicted on such laughable 'evidence' while Donnie Hansen gets acquitted? freakbook 04-12-2018, 11:00 AM Am I missing something about this case? Even assuming they are both guilty how on earth were they convicted on such laughable 'evidence' while Donnie Hansen gets acquitted? No, you're right. They didn't have any evidence at all to charge them with, but I think they're laughably guilty. I think some political figure was trying hard to make an arrest for something. That's the only time I've been actually angry over over an update. This case was the reason I started the thread! It makes me so flippin' mad! I almost can't even watch the segment. I wish the Grandmother would have lived long enough to go to trial! Pure, utter EVIL! freakbook 04-12-2018, 04:19 PM Wow. https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/30451577/ Pretty sure my money is on the uncle, who could describe the layout of the girl's bedroom and the layout of the house, even though he'd "never been there." I always wondered how much the police let slip to the uncle about the house layout. It seems like they chose him because he was an easy target. "hey I have a crazy brother let's pick him" They seemed more excited about David being released that the justice of their daughter. They also seemed way too concerned about proving how someone could break in versus putting in that effort to find her killer. They also moved and changed their last name instead of sticking around fighting to find her killer. Also, how the hell didn't anyone hear someone break in? Not even the brother who she shared a room with? They did it. David probably beat her a little too hard. Growing up I saw slot of abuse from step parents. No different here. SPD Yellow 04-17-2018, 06:52 PM The Noe-Prewitt clan. From what I heard, after all of this, Chad Noe pretty much washed his hands, leaving other family members to raise his son, Jonathan. And again, I am the first one to mention Franklin Delano Floyd who, if he isn’t the worst criminal on this show, he’s certainly in the top five. The UM segment is rage inducing by itself, but if you’ve studied subsequent materials about the case, like the book, A Beautiful Child, it’s even worse. Burn in Hell, you miserable ****! BlueGalexy 04-17-2018, 09:48 PM Great idea for a thread OP! I can think of a few UM cases that have angered me over the years. --The Holly Krewson case bothered me because of the "psychic's" involvement. I certainly don't judge the validity of psychics or their participation in potential crime cases. I just wish more of them would get involved at the invitation of the families or LE, rather than offering their opinions unsolicited. --The Kerstetter case bothered me because of the shady way his employer threw him under the bus. I realize however that this point is intensely debated regarding this case and will say that this is only my personal opinion. --The Matt Flores case bothers me because...WTF?? I mean, really...WTF?? You mean to tell me that despite the facts that more than 20 people were in the immediate area at the time, and the parking lot was heavily monitored by security cams, no one saw a thing? I realize that this is simply happenstance, and there really is no one to blame (accepting his killer of course), but still...WTF? SageSlowdive 04-17-2018, 10:51 PM Been awhile since I've posted but having watched all the seasons on Amazon twice now I feel like I can comment again lol.... - Aphrodisiacs, why did they think a segment about magical chocolate that puts you in the mood is worth airing on television? - Also, the vampire kids special segment on the same season! (Season 9) Literally a waste of valuable time for something else. Mike82 04-18-2018, 07:35 AM --The Kerstetter case bothered me because of the shady way his employer threw him under the bus. I realize however that this point is intensely debated regarding this case and will say that this is only my personal opinion. I couldn't believe how unprofessional his employer treated him. I was on the fence until I saw that interview with the company rep: if that's how they treat a 29 year veteran then I almost want to believe he was in on it! Dale had no criminal record and the 'motive' is shaky at best and if you are going to throw someone through the mud you had better be damn sure you are right. They seemed more excited about David being released that the justice of their daughter. They also seemed way too concerned about proving how someone could break in versus putting in that effort to find her killer. They also moved and changed their last name instead of sticking around fighting to find her killer. Would YOU have wanted to stick around an area where nearly everyone turned on you, were falsely imprisoned for almost 2 years and all you wanted was to try and live as normal a life as possible? If you are the one being falsely accused of murder (and the police refuse to consider other suspects), I doubt you would do anything differently than the Dowaliby family did. TheCars1986 04-18-2018, 08:05 AM Also, the vampire kids special segment on the same season! (Season 9) Literally a waste of valuable time for something else. Welcome back! That vampire kids segment scared the crap out of me. In the context of the times it made sense in a way. But it's laughable now.
