Who's watching? This series is awesome! Season three is being filmed. Probably won't be aired until October.

I would like o hear some opinions. :)

Yep, been a huge fan since it originally premiered. It's a total nostalgia kick for me... That was the kind of kid I was and hung out with back in the 80's playing Dungeons & Dragons in my basement, playing the Dragon's Lair video game at the arcade with my friends., plus all the nods to Stephen King and other popular culture of the 80's and earlier, and just a great show all around.

In case you may not know, Stephen King's It is partly responsible for the show being made. The Duffer Bros wanted to direct the new film version of IT, but were turned down, so they decided to create Stranger Things. Finn Wolfhard who plays Mike, also plays Richie in the new IT.
The other of many of the show's influences is King's Firestarter: the girl with powers being hunted by a secret government group.

Millie Bobby Brown: Time 100
by Aaron Paul

The first time I met Millie Bobby Brown was inside an ice cream shop. My wife and I had superfanned her, like most of the public did when they first saw her onscreen in "Stranger Things". We asked if she wanted to meet up, and she said yes. We screamed. We picked a little ice cream shop in New York City, and then, suddenly, we were all together.

The moment we started speaking, I realized we were in the wrong setting. I had thought, Oh, she’s 12, let’s get ice cream. No. She may have been 12 in years, but her spirit and mind were timeless. A wise woman was speaking from her cherubic face. It was like speaking to a future mentor with a perspective and groundedness that I could only have dreamed of at that age.

Or at any age, if I’m being honest.

Maybe that’s why she’s such an extraordinary actor. She somehow understands the human experience as if she has lived it for a thousand years. I’m proud to know her. To call her a friend.

To call her my adopted daughter.

Now for a bit of my Dungeons & Dragons geekdom to come out.

The kids call the creature that's killing people a Demogorgon which is the main monster they are fighting in their campaign they are playing.

This is what a D&D Demogorgon looks like, now of course they didn't name it based on looks but was the closest thing they had to compare the creature to at the time.
(This is from Dungeons & Dragons Monster Manual 1, most likely the manual they would have been using at the time they were playing.)

https://i.imgur.com/zocR0lz.jpg

The Vale Of Shadows which is supposedly also from D&D that the kids compare to the Upside Down seems to be a concoction of the show.
As described in the show: “The Vale of Shadows is a dimension that is a dark reflection, or echo, of our world. It is a place of decay and death, a plane out of phase, a [place] with monsters. It is right next to you and you don’t even see it.”

The closest thing people have found in D&D is Shadowfell(which came about in later editions of D&D):
“The Shadowfell is the dark echo of the modern world, a twilight realm that exists “on the other side” of the world and its earthly denizens.”

Yes, the kids will not look like Junior high kids anymore.I read that they are planning on skipping a couple of years in the story and the boys will be in high school. Which raises the question? What happened in the missing years?
Anyway, I was hoping that the series would resume in October or before. I got season 1 for Christmas last year and bought season 2 early in 2018. So season 2 must have aired before 2018. I didn't have Netflix then so I'm not sure.

Millie Bobby Brown(Love her name!) :) is actually 14 years old and younger than the others so she could still be young enough. Maybe they will make her look older?

On the third episode of James Cameron's Story of Science Fiction titled Monsters, one of the things they talk about is Stranger Things.
Both James Cameron and Steven Spielberg are fans and praise it.
The creators of Stranger Things talk about the movies that influenced their writing of the show. Winona Ryder's character was directly influenced by Richard Dreyfuss' character from Close Encounters, they said the Christmas lights are her mashed potatoes.

I have mixed emotions about Cary Elwes playing the mayor. I was really hoping Corbin Bernsen would get the role. I even told him on Facebook he would be perfect for that. As I see some shades of Arnie Becker in him.

"Stranger Things" Books Set for Fall Debut from Penguin Random House
by Greg Evans
June 8, 2018

Penguin Random House will partner with Netflix on a worldwide publishing deal for books based on the critically acclaimed Netflix original series "Stranger Things", Deadline has learned.

The first two titles, set for a release this fall, will be a behind-the-scenes companion book and a hardcover gift book for young readers. The companion book will be titled Stranger Things: World Turned Upside Down: The Official Behind-The-Scenes Companion.

The as-yet-untitled gift book will offer “advice, wisdom, and warnings from the Stranger Things world,” says the publisher.

Those two books will be followed next spring by a "Stranger Things" prequel novel, written by author Gwenda Bond, about Eleven’s mother and the MKUltra program.

Additional titles for both adults and young readers will arrive later in 2019.

The "Stranger Things" books will initially release under the U.S. and British Commonwealth publishing teams of Del Rey Books, Random House Children’s Books, Cornerstone Publishing, and Penguin Random House Children’s UK, with additional territories and imprints to follow.

Audiobook editions will be published by Penguin Random House Audio.

I just binge-watched seasons one and two of Stranger Things this week, after it was recommended to me by a friend. I definitely enjoyed both seasons, although I think season one was better, and had fewer plot holes. Still, both seasons held my interest, and I look forward to watching season three next year.

I definitely like the '80s feel of the show, which feels very authentic: from the Pee Chee folders and Trapper Keepers to the crappy way everyone treats each other.

I agree. Binge watching is the way to watch the series. It keeps the flow going and you can keep the story moving along. I watched it the first time in segments and got quite confused but the second and third times I watched several episodes together. The parts that I got lost in the first time gelled by watching it straight through. I agree that season 1 was better but I did enjoy both. I hope that the Duffer Brothers can keep it going as well and not get too "techy". As far as I know the series will have jumped a couple of years because the kids were growing up and not looking their ages. So I wonder how that will be carried through. I'm so looking forward to season 3 (2019).

I can definitely see getting confused if you're watching it in segments. It's definitely binge-worthy.

I don't mind them flashing forward a couple of years, as long as they explain what happened during the years we didn't see, preferably via flashbacks, like they did during the first few episodes of season two, where they explained what happened after season one. I probably will miss the kids biking everywhere, unless they keep that during the high school years.

This series is a lot of wish fulfillment, for me: it's how I'd like to remember the 1980s (monsters excluded), rather than how the 1980s really were. And that's one reason I enjoy it so much!

Why Stranger Things is a popular show i'll never understand. I was in Hot Topic shopping once and I had seen a whole section of the store devoted to Stranger Things filled with t-shirts and handbags and then as I walked through the other side of Hot Topic I saw Stranger Things Funko plushes and thought why this show has a big fanbase is beyond me. I then went to Kohl's and saw more Stranger Things merchandise and I was shocked. I think people see Stranger Things as the new Twilight Zone and Netflix has gotten such high ratings for Stranger Things because of the big fanbase and attention it recieves and the Stranger Things merchandise will become collector's items once the show ends in the future
