View Full Version : Beaver The Babysitter Torgo 03-25-2018, 11:17 AM I like how Beaver and Chuckie are introduced like they never met before. stevea 03-25-2018, 01:51 PM I also like how Wally assumed it would be Chuckie. It became clear as the episode went on that he had stayed with Pat before. Scrabjan1 03-25-2018, 03:24 PM That was weird like there was never a time when Mrs. Murdoch pushed her kid on Wally to take him for shoes. She did it again surprising them that Beaver would be babysitting Patricia not Chuckie. Another time was in Eddie’s Double Cross when Wally acts like he never met Alma when her mother monopolized his time when they were dating. stevea 03-25-2018, 03:35 PM Didn't Wally also call Chuckie "little boy" in Wally the Businessman? Like he didn't know his name. Scrabjan1 03-26-2018, 03:25 PM I don’t think he knew Chuckie at that time it was his first appearance and had no name. I like when the shoe salesman was trying to find him and called him “little boy.” Torgo 03-26-2018, 03:42 PM Also, didn't the Murdoch's used to live across the street from the Cleavers? I know Benji and his family lived right across the street from the Cleavers in both houses. stevea 03-26-2018, 07:46 PM I can't think of a Rory Stevens appearance before that late season 3 episode, where he was just "Little Boy". As for the Murdochs generally, I'll ask for help on that one! Scrabjan1 03-26-2018, 09:34 PM I saw Rory in The Birds but don’t think he got billing. He was the hysterical mother’s kid who didn’t have a line. Veronica Cartwright, Violet, had a big part. Bonniegirl 03-26-2018, 10:06 PM I saw Rory in The Birds but don’t think he got billing. He was the hysterical mother’s kid who didn’t have a line. Veronica Cartwright, Violet, had a big part. Yep!! I thought that was him!! I noticed last time I saw The Birds I was thinking that little boy was Rory Stevens!! ;) stevea 03-27-2018, 10:39 AM The Birds freaks me out. I haven't seen it in awhile. I think I've seen him in other sitcoms too, when he was older. His best scene was in Beaver's Frogs. Torgo 03-27-2018, 11:12 AM Rory was in two 1970's horror films- Carrie and Ruby, both starred Piper Laurie. Torgo 03-27-2018, 11:13 AM Yep!! I thought that was him!! I noticed last time I saw The Birds I was thinking that little boy was Rory Stevens!! ;) "If those birds don't stop attacking me I'll scream." stevea 04-06-2018, 03:01 PM Did anybody wonder why June or Ward couldn't have gone over to the Murdochs' and babysit Pat? Yeah, I know, we wouldn't have had a story then... Scrabjan1 04-06-2018, 05:17 PM So many of the episodes have a simple solution. June offers to babysit in Double Date when Wally wants to keep his date. She could have babysat in Beaver the Babysitter. Bonniegirl 04-06-2018, 05:51 PM The Birds freaks me out. I haven't seen it in awhile. I think I've seen him in other sitcoms too, when he was older. His best scene was in Beaver's Frogs. I LOVE "The Birds" !! One of my all time favorite movies! ;) Rory played a boyfriend of Julie's on one episode of One Day at a time in Season 1 !!;) Torgo 04-06-2018, 06:49 PM June babysitting Pat wouldn't have been unrealistic either, as they were friendly with the Murdochs and I think June would have jumped at the chance to babysit a girl. Hazel Anyday 04-07-2018, 05:55 AM The Birds and Beaver were all Universal Studios shows and they shared many of the same actors. Beaver was even the real little kid in Hitchcock's "Trouble With Harry". If you haven't seen this, Beaver is real little and cute. stevea 02-21-2019, 09:57 AM I just turned over to Andy Griffith 'cause I don't like this episode much. It's the one where Opie's trying to win the carnival prize for Andy's birthday, but the shooting gallery guys are crooked. Then they start the color episodes tomorrow. I started to get annoyed when (like Torgo said) Beaver and Chuckie are introduced like they've never met before (what about Beaver's Frogs and the new shoes?) Scrabjan1 02-21-2019, 07:55 PM I just turned over to Andy Griffith 'cause I don't like this episode much. I started to get annoyed when (like Torgo said) Beaver and Chuckie are introduced like they've never met before (what about Beaver's Frogs and the new shoes?) I agree. This is how it should have gone down. “You want me to babysit Chuckie? The last time I did that I bought him shoes and lost him. His mother came over and you told me she cried because I was lost. It was a disaster. Mom and dad were furious. I wanted to run away. Well Beaver I’d appreciate it if you will try again he might not be so bad. Plus I want that date with Marjorie. I hear she’s a delight. -Beaver and Wally arrive at the Murdochs.- Mrs. M- I wasn’t sure you were up to this job but you just might be more responsible with Pat. She’s quite mature for her age. We’re taking Charlton with us he’s such a brat. Just play house with her and she’ll be fine. Stay out of the bedroom. stevea 02-21-2019, 08:15 PM If Wally wasn't such an honest guy I'd say the Eddie influence came over him, in not telling Beaver it could be Pat. Wally could have had a thought bubble pop up when they were debating whether Beaver would do it: "Hmmm..it could be Patricia--Beaver will never go for sitting with her. I'll just not even mention to him it might be her. And, oddly enough, in all the times I've sat for them, I've never mentioned to anyone that I've sat for Pat. And it's even stranger that Mom and Dad don't even know the Murdocks have a daughter." The more I type this stuff, the worse this episode seems! Oh, in your scenario above--I'd give Marjorie Reynolds another line: Oh, Wally, sorry for my bad acting when Chuckie got his new shoes. I had just taken some acting lessons, and the subject was emoting. stevea 02-21-2019, 08:55 PM Just checked the writing credit on this: Joseph Hoffman. Not one of the typical writers. He also wrote Beaver's Laundry (retitle: How'd That Floor Get So Clean?), another not-so-hot episode. Additionally, he co-wrote Beaver's First Date, with a teleplay re-write by Connelly and Mosher, and wrote Beaver's Ics Skates and Beaver's Autobiography, and co-wrote Beaver's Frogs. Scrabjan1 02-23-2019, 09:08 AM Definitely one of the worst episodes. If I had been Pat, and Gilbert says right in front of me “hey Beave who’s the creepy girl,” and Beaver tells me to beat it I would have just left. Pat had a lot of resistance to stand there and be abused by them. I liked Pat. Better actor than Mrs. M. stevea 02-23-2019, 10:35 AM She was raptured by Beaver. What a kook! Yeah, she was a cute kid. Like Linda Dennison. Beaver should have gotten over his aversion to girls and spent more time in the tree with her. Scrabjan1 02-23-2019, 12:35 PM Hey Linda Dennison was a cutie. I can see why he was jealous of Larry in the tree. “I guess that bad feeling is why people get married.” stevea 02-23-2019, 12:54 PM I really liked Miss Landers' speech to the class in that episode. Talks like that are what "mold" kids to be a better person in life. If it were real I'd bet those kids would carry that speech forward. Of course, it lost Beaver Linda, to Larry in the end. MMR 02-23-2019, 02:03 PM I really liked Miss Landers' speech to the class in that episode. Talks like that are what "mold" kids to be a better person in life. If it were real I'd bet those kids would carry that speech forward. Of course, it lost Beaver Linda, to Larry in the end. Yeah. Both Miss Landers and Mrs. Rayburn gave some great lectures, and that was my favorite one by Miss Landers. stevea 02-25-2019, 09:37 PM Here's what Miss Landers said to the third grade class, the day after Beaver called Linda the name (smelly ol' ape), punched Larry, and a hallway ruckus ensued (season 2 episode 6, "Her Idol") (Story: Dick Conway and Roland MacLane; Teleplay: Joe Connelly and Bob Mosher): Now, before we begin today's lessons, I think there's one thing we should straighten out, in regard to our relations with each other. Now, I talked with Mrs. Rayburn, and all that commotion yesterday was caused by a mistaken idea. Some of you seem to think there's something shameful about a little boy and a little girl liking one another. Now, let's think about it for a minute. Is it really so shameful? All of us here in this room are rather like one big family. And I think our family could be a lot happier if we were kind, and considerate, and friendly toward one another. And--well--as far as little boys and little girls liking each other--well, you don't have to be silly about it, but i do think you should have mutual respect, and learn to get along together. You know, if you do that, you'll be taking a big step toward becoming the kind of men and women we want you to be. CosmicCharlie 02-27-2019, 09:09 PM I was kinda surprised that young male Beaver would be allowed to baby sit a young little girl as the show displayed ... especially with the "I want MaryJane" bathroom thing going on ... stevea 02-27-2019, 09:45 PM Or Wally for that matter. That Puddin'/Mary Jane episode was an early clunker (one of the few.) Nobody in their right mind would have left that little kid with Wally and Beaver at that point. Scrabjan1 02-28-2019, 10:27 AM I so agree about the MaryJane episode. That kid was too big to be carried around and was obviously able to go to the bathroom alone. Her mother was a real airhead as Ward pointed out. “Janet went out to get some air the punch went right to her head. June- But Ward there’s nothing in it! Ward- Her head? She was a handful for an experienced babysitter like Judy Walker. stevea 01-16-2020, 09:45 AM I can't believe I'm sitting thru this episode again. HEY CHUCKIE YOU KNOW BEAVER! He took you to get new shoes in another un-memorable episode. Well, I'm cutting up junk mail so I don't have to pay too much attention. Scrabjan1 01-16-2020, 09:01 PM I can't believe I'm sitting thru this episode again. HEY CHUCKIE YOU KNOW BEAVER! He took you to get new shoes in another un-memorable episode. Well, I'm cutting up junk mail so I don't have to pay too much attention. Yeah you can sit there but do a project and let your mind wander away from the inane dialogue. “Wash wash wash now say good night to the children.” Beaver really was getting into house. I didn’t watch Richard’s Jacket or is that Beaver’s Jacket, I turned the channel. I had the volume down for Mr. Lumpy’s Wild Ride too. Hate how they act like it’s this long straight road and up ahead you see the puddle. It was a winding dirt road in reality and no one could see the puddle. Also they edit out them pushing the car. I like in TAGS Barney’s New Car they show a stuntman or woman for Aunt Bee pushing the car. stevea 01-17-2020, 09:12 AM Beaver was getting into house, like he and Gilbert were getting into playing a family in the car (until Beaver took the brake off). Yeah, these titles. Like Beaver's Laundry. How about Whose Laundry? Or Whose Laundry is it Anyway? I REALLY like Mr. Lumpy's Wild Ride. LOL!! For Beaver the Babysitter, how about "Wally, Why Would You Think It's Pat?" stevea 06-29-2020, 09:07 AM Ugh! Glad I fell back to sleep. Wake me up when it's over... CosmicCharlie 06-29-2020, 09:33 AM Patricia was a cool little actress good delivery of "Little Squirt" & "You Dummy" lines surprised she didn't have more episodes ... stevea 06-30-2020, 07:03 AM I REALLY like Mr. Lumpy's Wild Ride. LOL!! For Beaver the Babysitter, how about "Wally, Why Would You Think It's Pat?" "Wally Gives Beaver the Business" Torgo 06-30-2020, 09:33 AM Beaver was getting into house, like he and Gilbert were getting into playing a family in the car (until Beaver took the brake off). For Beaver the Babysitter, how about "Wally, Why Would You Think It's Pat?" That scene in the car with Gilbert is probably my favorite Gilbert moment, genuinely makes me laugh out loud when Gilbert gets into playing the mom. Beaver should have told Pat he only like playing house with Gilbert. stevea 06-30-2020, 09:37 AM The car scene with Gilbert is classic. Undoubtedly Talbot's best acting scene. Wonder if they had multiple takes to get it. Cx 06-30-2020, 01:53 PM The car scene with Gilbert is classic. Undoubtedly Talbot's best acting scene. Wonder if they had multiple takes to get it. I agree: great scene that makes me ( still ) laugh out loud when I see it. "Wonder if they had multiple takes to get it I'll bet they did, that is, the entire scene from inside the car, to when Wally finally pulls it back in and gets accosted by the cop. All those vehicles too! Funny how all of a sudden, Pine street becomes an amazingly busy artery. Must be detour traffic due to a ruptured water main on Grant avenue. :) stevea 06-30-2020, 04:12 PM Murphy's Law, too--the minute something goes wrong 50 zillion cars show up. Doesn't just happen to Beaver. Cx 06-30-2020, 08:10 PM Murphy's Law, too--the minute something goes wrong 50 zillion cars show up. Doesn't just happen to Beaver. And everybody angrily honks their horns despite the gridlock caused by an unmoving object. CosmicCharlie 06-30-2020, 08:46 PM did you notice the car's steering wheel had been switched to one with that was flat on top - so it didn't block beaver's face for the camera angle, and it was attached kinda loosely wobbling around as Beaver faked driving ... Gilbert was a classic ! "Oh your always in the wrong lane when your supposed to turn!" and he then sounds like he's (she the mom) is going to cry ! Beaver Who's Linda ? Gilbert "One of our kids you DUMMY !" stevea 07-01-2020, 06:58 AM Yeah, great writing and acting. That steering wheel looked like the one in my dad's '61 Fury. They had that odd shape. Cx 07-01-2020, 11:54 AM Yeah, great writing and acting. That steering wheel looked like the one in my dad's '61 Fury. They had that odd shape. True. Many early 60s Chrysler products had a square-ish steering wheel. It was supposed to provide an unobstructed view of the instrument panel, and provide for easier entry/exit to/from the driver's seat. Some even had swiveling driver's seats, cable activated, when the door was opened. That said, I did notice the steering wheel really did seem to wobble in Beaver's hands. stevea 07-01-2020, 12:14 PM I was too young to drive one of those, but I'll bet it could bang your leg on a turn. My dad had skinny legs, so maybe not his. |
