Lippy was an enterprising lion while Hardy was a sad hyena who kept sayin "Oh dear. Oh my. Oh me. Oh my." Retro4Life 11-20-2011, 01:16 PM Yeah, I remember them well. They were a part of the afternoon cartoon show in my area, hosted by a local personality. Good times. MrCleveland 11-24-2011, 12:42 AM Yeah...Hardy Har Har is one who needs an overdose of Prozac...and he'll STILL not be happy. rezny717 11-24-2011, 11:54 AM Oh,yes. That was a great time for Hanna-Barbera cartoons(the 1960's).The 1960's(late 1950's,too)was the "golden age of Hanna-Barbera cartoons."And the "Lippy the lion and Hardy Har Har"was one reason why.And the late, great Mel Blanc was also the voice of Hardy Har Har.They don't make 'em like this anymore. TV Knowledge Fan 11-24-2011, 05:09 PM ...was one segment of a syndicated 1962 Hanna-Barbera series (the others being "Wally Gator" and "Touche Turtle") that were [as 'Retro4Life' accurately remembers] initially seen as part of several local children's shows {in New York, Milt Moss was the host of WPIX-TV's "CARTOON ZOO", which featured life-size cutouts of each of the three characters in "cages", while Moss appeared as "Zookeeper", introducing the cartoons and doing live commercials}. :tv: Marshall 03-02-2012, 03:30 PM ...was one segment of a syndicated 1962 Hanna-Barbera series (the others being "Wally Gator" and "Touche Turtle") that were [as 'Retro4Life' accurately remembers] initially seen as part of several local children's shows {in New York, Milt Moss was the host of WPIX-TV's "CARTOON ZOO", which featured life-size cutouts of each of the three characters in "cages", while Moss appeared as "Zookeeper", introducing the cartoons and doing live commercials}. :tv: Touche Turtle's pal Dum Dum was voiced by Alan Reed, Fred Flintstone himself. Hawkee 01-13-2018, 02:52 AM Another underrated cartoon of the Hanna-Barbera library was a cartoon called Loopy The Lion And Hardy Har-Har and it came out in the 60's and not much is known about Loopy The Lion And Hardy Har-Har except that it had a great theme song. It would sure be nice if Boomerang or Cartoon Network could show some of the underrated Hanna-Barbera cartoons on TV because it's about time cartoons like Loopy The Lion And Hardy Har-Har get the chance to be seen on TV again Bestie Videoranger007 01-13-2018, 08:29 PM Hes actually called Lippy the Lion. Theyll never rebroadcast it unless they produce a block dedicated to classic HB toons or create a new channel. Sadly, thats just the reality of things. Maybe Warner Archive will release the series on DVD soon. Bonniegirl 01-13-2018, 10:13 PM I love Lippy the lion and Hardy Har har! Hanna-Barbera made so many good cartoons, there should be a Hanna-Barbera channel! I remember Loopy The Lion And Hardy Har-Har. Their theme song was almost as good a Wally Gator. Thanks for the memories Bestie! DTK Bonniegirl 02-06-2018, 02:01 PM Hi, Bestie! Hanna-Barbera made so many good cartoons, there should be a Hanna-Barbera channel! Hanna- Barbera had the best cartoons!! ;) A Hanna-Barbera channel would be fantastic!!;) :) Svenfan1234 02-06-2018, 02:12 PM I agree!! I wish we could get a digital channel similar to Antenna or MeTV but for classic cartoons! MrCleveland 02-06-2018, 02:18 PM Me too! That'd be great! Warner shouldn't sit on the older H-B shows...have a spin-off station called MeTOON TV with cartoons between 1950-1990...digital stations and streaming channels are getting more viewers than cable and satellite right now! Exactly. Boomerang's pretty much done with the old H-B shows, and the streaming service is nice, but why not license the old toons out to a digital channel who'd be willing to pay a good amount of money for them? Doesn't make much sense to me. MrCleveland 02-06-2018, 02:37 PM Exactly. Doesn't make much sense to me. Disney does the same thing too...in the 1980's, Disney aired shows via syndication since it made money. Now Disney should syndicate their shows on Antenna TV or MeTV. What station would do well with the older Disney Shows...the ones in the 50's and 60's...Antenna TV or MeTV? TJ 01-07-2026, 05:12 PM Talk about odd couples The zippy, happy-go-lucky Lippy the Lion (voiced by Daws Butler) is always looking for action. Hardy Har Har (voiced by Mel Blanc) is a hangdog, hapless hyena who never laughs. So, naturally the pair are inseparable. Constantly on the lookout for the next big score, the always-optimistic Lippy leads a skeptical Hardy into a multitude of misadventures despite Hardy's worry-wartin. They have a two hour block of these old Hanna-Barbera cartoons on MeTV Toons daily at 11 am Eastern time. Some of the cartoons are pretty good, some not so good. I've always liked the really old ones, like Huckleberry Hound/Mr. Jinks/Yogi Bear. I also like Quick Draw McGraw, and these are supposedly in the process of being remastered for MeTV Toons and Blu-Ray. https://www.metvtoons.com/schedule/ cd637299 01-14-2026, 10:42 PM What type of an animal was Hardy Har Har, a hyena maybe? Most definitely a hyena. The irony is that he wouldn’t laugh like a hyena is supposed to; he was always expecting the worst (“Oh dear, oh my, I just KNEW something would happen!”). There was one Lippy/Hardy ep where Lippy I think tried to get him to laugh (“But you’re a hyena. You’re supposed to laugh.”). Actually Hardy Har Har got his debut 3 years earlier in a Snooper & Blabber cartoon called “Laughing Guess,” differently drawn, but still moping. More irony: Snooper was almost always drawn deadpan, not unlike Hardy; but in that Snooper episode, they did all they could to get him to laugh. It took an accident—Snoop slipping on a banana peel and taking the fall, where Hardy finally laughed. cd stevea 01-14-2026, 11:01 PM Most definitely a hyena.
