I don't fancy wearing pearls and pumps around the house, like Helen and Aunt Bea and Clara seem to. But I DO looove the way the ladies dressed!!!

Anyone?

Helen's outfits are very elegant. I often wonder how she could possibly afford them on a 1960s meager teacher salary?

Andy's suits look quite expensive also. I like the color of navy blue the suit some of the guys wear.. It's a very vibrant navy blue.

One gets a really notice of these colors that they use during the colorized episodes.

Give me the way chicks dressed in the latter 1/2 of the '60s with those great mini-skirts anytime over those over the knee long dresses of the early '60's. HOWEVER, I do like the way men dressed in the '50's and in the early '60's, I think all men should wear a hat and tie and a sport jacket anytime they step out.

I agree with Hazel Anyday. Miniskirts were heaven-sent. Ladies were free to continue wearing their little white gloves, of course! (And break out the ironing board for that stunning long, straight hair!:))

The men of the show dressed well too. Yes, the colorized episodes show it very well. Even Goober looks very handsome in a suit!

Poor Barney. He had one very heavy thick material suit he wore throughout the series. He even wore it in the hot summer.

They gave barney the cheapest clothes they could find when Andy dressed in tailor made quality duds when they went to events and dances.

I think it must have been "poor Barney's" favorite suit though. If you've seen some of the movies Barney made after he left the AG Show he continued to wear the same suit and zoot tie in the movies. I don't think it was a case of Barney being forced to wear a big old suit, I think he likes it.:talk:

I think they were implying Barney couldn't afford another suit with his meager wage.

When he visited in the color episodes he mentioned he purchased an Italian suit now that he was earning more.

The one suit was his signature suit though for sure.

I always found it odd that so many YOUNG women wore their hair UP...like Thelma Lou and Helen. I didn't realize younger women would wear their hair up so much.

The women of the 60s sure knew how to dress to flatter themselves. A very good point about women's hair being up in some manner. I never thought about it. Even Aunt Bea's hair was schwooshed up and pinned up. A lot of hair pins in all the ladies hair.

I like the poise of Lydia Crosswaithe. The way she sat with her ankles crossed. I am on the search for a lady like that. If you know one, please send her to me!

I saw Barney's suit at the Andy Griffith museum in Mount Airy. They had Gomer's double-breasted number as well. Needless to say, they were the original items actually worn by the actors.

Shoot yea women dressed so freakin sexy back then! It not what you see its what you don't see and how it subtly displayed. It wasn't about every freakin' chick trying to look 22yrs old like it is now. I thought Mary Lansing aka "Mrs. Rodenbach" was a VERY sexy lady. Check out the gams on that chick (see attach.)! She's gotta be at least 50yr in this scene but she's sexy as heck to me. Those calves in those patent leather pumps, the snug but not too tight skirt, the jacket & hat. Sexy Granny!!!

Thelma Lou wore her hair down in the episode "Barney Mends a Broken Heart" and she looked so nice. I don't recall seeing her hair down in any other episode.

It seemed a bit odd that Peggy wore a dress when Andy took her fishing.

Yes, I seem to recall they were in a rowboat together and she wore her typical light colored or white dress, maybe from her nurse's uniform. The following may be from a different episode, here's Peggy/Joanna Moore looking good in her pants:

288409

A nice-looking lady for sure. Seeing images of Joanna, she's begun to turn me on more than in the past.

I was once criticized on the old IMDb boards for ranking Arlene Golonka (Millie) above Joanna on my list of Mayberry hotties. What can I say though, I'm a "Golonkafan." When Arlene's hair becomes longer over the run of Mayberry RFD, her looks practically drive me insane...!

That was the same episode, but fishing trip #2 in epilogue segment where she is dressed more appropriately.

For the most part, I really like the way women dressed in the 1960s and their hair styles. They really fixed their hair and curled it. Didn't just let it hang straight down parted in the middle to their hips. Also, the clothes were generally nicer back then. A bit more formal times and frankly, I like it. Always have.
