View Full Version : I got a response back from Antenna TV again
Asking them about why Antenna TV isn’t going to last long on WBIN and this is what they said.
We hope to find a new home in the Boston area.
That is the goal.
treky 12-16-2017, 01:03 AM on other words "don't call us we'll call you". Well I wouldn't be upset. You're not missing much by not seeing them.
TV Guy 12-16-2017, 01:18 AM When Univision bought the WBIN license, they also gained the right to invoke the “must carry” rule for cable systems. “Must Carry” means that the station can say to the company: we can force you to carry the station for free. The larger stations - the major network affiliates - don’t have to invoke this because they are so desirable that they can charge the cable companies for retransmission. But the smaller stations often use it.
Must Carry does not apply to substations. But WBIN isn’t a substation. Univision could easily start another substation if they wanted to continue to carry Antenna TV. But they’re not going to waste a Must Carry license on it - they’re going to use it for their primary mission (Spanish programming).

Why?

Which is ridiculous because we really do not need all these Spanish channels.
Plater of Everything 12-16-2017, 09:58 AM WHY NO WHDH 7.3?
WHY NO WHDH 7.3?
There's This TV on 7.2, but nothing on 7.3.
TV Guy 12-16-2017, 01:54 PM Sunbeam, the owner of WHDH (channel 7) also owns WLVI (Channel 56). They sold Channel 56’s spectrum back to the FCC earlier this year. Sometime in the next 18 months, WHDH and WLVI will channel share on WHDH’s spectrum. They likely will only have room on that spectrum for two HD channels (7-1 and 56-1) and two SD channels (7-2 and 56-2).
To me Channels 4 and 38 could be likely candidates, but unfortunately, they are owned by (not just affiliated with) CBS, and they would rather start their own subchannels than affiliate with a competitor like Tribute/Sinclair, which owns Antenna.
So CW 56 will be no more either?
TV Guy 12-16-2017, 10:27 PM 56 will still be around. It’ll just be sharing spectrum with WHDH. You won’t notice anything, other than that they’ll probably downgrade it to 780p resolution.
treky 12-17-2017, 01:00 AM Why?
because of the way they crunch the credits.
I don't mind the credit crunch to be honest.
BigManMike 12-17-2017, 09:36 AM because of the way they crunch the credits.
I’m the same way. Haven’t watched Antenna TV in two years and don’t plan to ever again. I wish it would get replaced with Get or Buzzr.
treky 12-17-2017, 03:46 PM it's a shame; they used to be a good channel.
Svenfan1234 12-17-2017, 03:55 PM I don't mind the credit crunch to be honest.
Me either. I'd rather have full credits, but we're getting shows like Head of the Class, Hogan Family, Silver Spoons, Benson, Murphy Brown, Alice, and more... can't complain:) If it was like Logo, the trash network, I'd complain.
icecream 12-17-2017, 04:08 PM it's a shame; they used to be a good channel. They still are! I was looking forward to the January schedule. Not only did Antenna have several shows I already liked, they are adding a lot more and finally getting rid of most of the Norman Lear shows. Can't see any of it now because of my lousy affiliate taking Antenna away. Yes they crunch credits but get singled out way too much on this board. Almost all TV stations today crunch credits, Antenna is hardly alone on that. And they don't go off the clock either to add more commercials like the Viacom networks and others.
GetTV would be nice to have.
1960'sTVfan 12-17-2017, 06:40 PM I'm not interested in most of GetTV's schedule, but earlier this year I recorded their airings of the Peter Loves Mary show, and I'm glad I recorded them because they yanked the show off the schedule after running it for only 8 weeks. That's another thing I dislike about GetTV, they mess with their schedule too much. I do like some of the old Christmas specials they are airing this month, that's a good thing.
Antenna TV isn't perfect either but I think they're overall a decent channel. I have to give them two thumbs up for airing The Joey Bishop Show, including the 1st season shows that hadn't been seen since they originally aired. If only the shows would air uncut, but I guess that's too much to ask. The Antenna TV airings of Joey Bishop Show are better than nothing unless the complete series gets issued on DVD. In my opinion, putting The Joey Bishop Show on their schedule was by far the best thing Antenna TV did in 2017. ;) :)
But it seems to me that Antenna TV is gradually transitioning to a 1980's and 1990's sitcom channel. Most of the new shows they're adding for 2018 are from that time frame. As time goes along, wouldn't surprise me if the more recent sitcoms become the focus of their schedule, and less focus on the older sitcoms from the 50's, 60's and 70's.

:(

Then maybe they should change their slogan from "TV how it was meant to be" to "TV the way it is now ".
Still sad they took it away from you though :(
TV Guy 12-22-2017, 07:22 AM WBIN 50.1 changed to the Justice Network as of Thursday afternoon. So unfortunately Boston is now without an Antenna TV affiliate.

What is Justice Network?

Logo, which hacks away one or two of the same shows Antenna airs or have aired, is worse.
You would need to contact the station and ask them that question.
Seriously?!
stevea 12-22-2017, 01:58 PM Good luck getting an answer from the station. They transfer you to a "programming person", you get their voicemail, and they don't call you back.
You might have better luck using the "contact us" icon of their website (I did.)

You mean The Justice Network?
Damien 12-27-2017, 09:35 PM Which is ridiculous because we really do not need all these Spanish channels.Actually, we do. Hispanics are becoming the majority.

Our language in this country is English and should stay that way.

yes, Archie Bunker
tvfreak1987 12-28-2017, 01:54 AM Our language in this country is English and should stay that way.
Racist much?
IllinoisTVFan 12-28-2017, 03:19 AM Racist much?
Oh, so because I expect people to speak English I am racist? I don't care the race but if people come here, they should be expected to speak English, it's our language.
IllinoisTVFan 12-28-2017, 03:22 AM yes, Archie Bunker
That's a good one. Btw I do speak Spanish but our language is English.
Actually, we do. Hispanics are becoming the majority.
No we don’t.
Jamey Greek 12-28-2017, 11:40 PM because of the way they crunch the credits.
That's why I don't watch GSN anymore

It's my opinion that people who come here should be allowed to speak any language they want, and no one should be forced to learn any language (including English). That is what makes this country great is it's diversity, and that should never go away in any form.
PhoenixAcres 12-29-2017, 01:53 PM That is what makes this country great is it's diversity, and that should never go away in any form.
Diversity isn't good or bad on its own. It's just a byproduct of a society that doesn't discriminate based on differences. What makes us strong is UNITY in the face of diversity, i.e. finding common ground and working as a team despite differences. The United States was incredibly strong in recent years because people learned to accept others regardless of race, background, etc. and that's a good thing.
For the record I don't mind Spanish channels. There's nothing wrong with keeping your native language, but realistically people should also learn English considering most communication in this country is done that way.
Antenna TV is now officially “The Justice Network”.
I only know two shows on there which are Rescue 911 and Alaska State Troopers.

They can speak any language they want, but likewise we shouldn't offer them special requests. For example, I have no problem with them learning the language and offering classes but we shouldn't coddle them. No welfare in other languages, etc. Our language is English. If you go to Mexico they won't coddle to English speakers, nor should they.
