Hi. I am new to the forum. As the title suggests, what's your favourite season from the Robert Stack era? Mine has to be season 1.

As the title suggests, what is your favourite of Unsolved Mysteries? LooksLikeCRicci 12-14-2017, 01:37 PM Welcome to the boards! Excellent question! I agree that Season 1 is an absolute classic season. It's probably my favorite, too... I noticed that your posts both asked the same question, so I went ahead and merged them into one thread. I hope that's okay! We're happy to have you! :) DALLASTEXAN!! 12-14-2017, 07:11 PM Welcome! Season 1 is pure gold. I also fancy season 2 because that is when I first started watching the show in 89-90. MA 12-14-2017, 07:12 PM Welcome to the forum! justins5256 12-14-2017, 09:57 PM 1. Huskerz85 12-15-2017, 01:04 PM It's hard to pick between the first three for me (four is okay, but by five, the appeal starts to wane) bell83 12-15-2017, 02:24 PM The earliest ones are my favorite...I'd say 1-3. I think a large part of that is my nostalgia for my life in that time frame. But they are undoubtedly better than some of the later seasons, even without that. Dude111 12-15-2017, 02:39 PM The first ones are my favourite,I didnt watch them when Mr. Stack left,it became crap.......... unsolved1981 12-16-2017, 07:20 PM First Season by far, and a slow decline thereafter. That is both due to the quality of the early cases, and the declining budget for later seasons. The show started to gravitate toward the more fantastic Unexplained cases at the expense of solvable mysteries. And my god, the Lost Loves cases.... It was jarring to go through the Amazon Seasons sets and the sheer amount of skipping around I did due to all the Lost Loves cases. Some people on here groan about the Unexplained ones, there are a number of good ones, but there is no comparison to the 'heart warming' Lost Love cases and how they crowded out the show. amandab1234 12-16-2017, 09:40 PM First Season by far, and a slow decline thereafter. There’s very few lost love cases I enjoyed. Not sure if it’s an unpopular opinion but I always skip through the Treasure segments I think I can count the number of interesting Lost Loves segments on one hand. Thats just me though. The Treasure segments don't do anything for me, but at the time they were among the most popular. They would get an insane number of calls when they ran them. It's hard to believe now. mtaylor72 01-16-2018, 09:51 PM The first four are as good as it gets. If I was forced to choose, I'd pick season 3. TheCars1986 01-17-2018, 07:47 AM 1-4 for me. 5 has been hit or miss. I'm hoping that once I get to the "revamped" later seasons that I can see some segments I haven't seen in a long time. Far Off Promise 01-19-2018, 05:42 PM I think that the Lost Loves segments should have been spun off into their own show. I appreciate them as a segment of the earliest seasons, while the show was experimenting with different types of segments, but they do seem out of place when juxtaposed with the creepiness and terror of Unsolved Mysteries, which was the premise of the show. I believe that a Lost Loves show would have been popular, and would still be popular today. There are so many ways to find people now that I don't think we'd have a ton of unsolved segments, but it would be interesting for someone to contact the show and have them film during the search. They could tell the backstory, detail the search, and then film the reunion. crystaldawn 01-21-2018, 06:01 PM Season 1 definitely! I remember you! http://media1.giphy.com/media/ASd0Ukj0y3qMM/giphy.gif Huskerz85 01-24-2018, 02:08 PM To the OP: Welcome! I've watched seasons 1-8 repeatedly, but lately, haven't even been able to make it all the way through season 7. I'd say anything prior to that (Season 1 - 6 - remember in one of the early episodes, Stack pointing at the screen when saying "Join me.......maybe you can help solve a mystery....") SDR-1970 06-07-2018, 01:38 PM There’s very few lost love cases I enjoyed. Not sure if it’s an unpopular opinion but I always skip through the Treasure segments Same here. I'm finding it particularly difficult to sit through most if not all the lost love cases, & to a lesser extent the treasure segments. Fortunately there doesn't appear to be that many of them. Usmysteriesmaniac 08-26-2018, 04:11 PM Season 1, I'd say, with 2 & 3 being close seconds & thirds respectively for me. 4 & 5 were both very good too, and when there was the most nostalgia associated with Unsolved Mysteries. Seasons 6 & 7 was when the show began to seem a bit more tame, after the song, intro, and graphics were slightly redone, but weren't half bad either for the most part at least. Season 8 was when things began to take a not so great turn for the better, when it was revamped in a way. That being the case with the totally new tune, and intro, and began to focus on the supernatural, and unsolvable mysteries far too much more, which wasn't exactly the show's main purpose, nor was it nearly as scary as the 80's & early 90's seasons. The later seasons was when it began to focus more on crime as originally intended, and was better than the mid 90's segments I.M.O., albeit still a far cry from when U.M. was totally great. It was almost like it was a totally different show, even if that's unfortunately not too uncommon as things go on in later seasons. isotope 08-26-2018, 10:14 PM Of the earlier "classic" seasons, Season 1 has lots of great cases, but 2 is a bit disappointing IMO...just an enormous amount of paranormal cases, some of them pretty silly even by UM standards (a 20+ minute segment on crop circles!) As I've said before, I think the last few seasons are underrated, as the producers start skipping a lot of the UFO/psychic stuff in favour of crimes; but the decline in budget is obvious and a bit sad. Usmysteriesmaniac 08-26-2018, 11:47 PM The later seasons definitely weren't half bad, and enjoyed more than the mid ones for the most part. Those were what kind of caused me to lose interest in the show at the time, and began to focus more on America's Most Wanted (especially when U.M. went on hiatus for a brief year or so), which was great in the 90's, and recorded many episodes of from that time frame as well. StackTime 08-27-2018, 01:29 AM I agree with what I believe to be a growing consensus, that 1-4 are the best. The more there were UFO-paranormal stories, the less great it was. The Farina episodes get a tough rap, especially before Amazon Prime. Not nearly as good as the original, OF COURSE, but we got some updates, and it was still better than 90% of the crap on TV. I just want to have a chance to use "Hank Queen" as my alias someday. Usmysteriesmaniac 08-27-2018, 02:32 AM L.O.L., and Hank Queen sure was a strange alias to say the least! The Farina episodes were far too tame for U.M., but they still served a good purpose by briefly giving us back Unsolved Mysteries, despite being recycled cases that were way too far in the past, and/or already solved. But at least we got to see several rare episodes, which Lifetime would never show, including a few Final Appeals, that none of us would never have gotten to see otherwise. |
