It seems that all the music was cleared, but two episodes appear to be edited, one from season 5 and one from season 6. Both episodes run only 22 minutes.

Which songs were cleared as well as heard on the DVD can you make a list if you have the time

No sorry I don't have time for that. It's a good DVD set, but since two episodes appear to be edited it isn't perfect.

They had three different eps. Over the Seasons where they performed/ put on a floor show at a retirement home. :) Singing, dancing, corny jokes. Kind of like vaudeville type acts! ;)

Even when they didn't have episodes where massive performances happened, there would be occasional episodes where one of the cast members would be listening to music in the background or dancing to music numbers.

I remember an episode where Schneider was singing Raindrops Falling on My Head.

The show didn't heavily rely on musics like Happy Day, Mama's Family, Gimme a Break or other shows, but they did need clearances for the music they did use

In terms of DVD releases, nothing hurt worse than the way Bosom Buddies was released. By replacing the iconic theme song with a lesser known one, they essentially ruined the release.

To me, the worse case of music replacement/edits was "Sabrina the Teenage Witch". The music set the 90s tone for that show and without it, it feels sorta flat.

For One Day At A Time, Shout Factory was able to clear all the music, but they couldn't make sure to get all unedited episodes? This is irritating, but I'm glad I didn't pay over $100 for the DVD set. I bought it for $73, it was the best legitimate deal I could find on line.

At least the season 1-4 episodes all seem to be uncut, those are my favorite seasons.

Neither one of us were there during the one day at time meeting with Mackenzie Phillips but I am sure that she had a huge influence on the boxsetvl while making sure that all was intact but I wonder how many songs did shout factory get as well as pay for

There's no evidence that any music wasn't cleared.

Shout Factory is one company that I can surely trust whenever it comes to releasing old shows they believe in giving fans what they want although I do not know what song or music was heard in the sitcom because it was mostly known for issues but whatever songs where cleared as well as performed i am happy they did I hope they get Boosum Buddies and whatever else old shows that were released i trust them and Time Life

I remember it.;) It was an early season ep. and he was singing it to himself as he was in Ann's apt. fixing something I think? It wasn't like a big staged musical number or anything! ;)

Shout Factory is truly One of the best outside studios that I highly respect as well as admire because as I have said I trust them as well as time life who continue to defy all expectations when it came to doing what they are known for doing hopefully they will release which I would love to see them get is Murphy Brown which I believe they can get but nobody knows the mind of Shout Factory but I hope that they themselves will continue to release old shows with everything intact because studios nowdays will not take a chance or a gamble on it

I wish Murphy Brown would be released one way or another. I just want it complete on DVD.

Is it on the set unedited? I guess you could call it parody and they wouldn't need to clear it...

So far on my watching schedule (episode a day, from the beginning) I've seen the brief playing of Elton's Rocket Man and Schneider singing a snippet of Baby, It's Cold Outside (which may or may not be public domain??)

I have a question whenever shows are converted onto the DVD wouldn't the studio themselves have to get the footages from the original master tapes and when does the music clearance becomes a factor

It's the use of the music elements - either recordings and/or performances that have to be cleared by the company who puts it out on DVD - either the studio that owns it or a 3rd party that licences the show. It's not about the footage itself. More recent shows have such things worked into contracts from day one useage, older shows is much more complicated.

There's the performance, the original musical recording, and the publishing that all have to be aligned.

There are others that can explain this in more detail.

I was reading on Amazon that a customer reviewer who bought the complete series of one day at a time had said every episode is uncut and unedited with all of the music being intact as I said I didn't know that the show was known for music only personal issues hey does anybody know whether or not one day at a time had a Saturday morning cartoons shows

Don't believe everything you read on Amazon. Shout Factory might have been able to clear all the music, but every episode is not uncut. Two episodes, "So Long Mom" from season 5, and "A Tiny Romance" from season 6, are 22 minute, edited for syndication versions. Both episodes appear to have something cut/edited right at the beginning, so I imagine the first minute or two of these episodes is probably what's missing.

I have not brought the DVD but since all of the music was cleared as well as being intact who was doing the performance of these songs
because I know that the mother didnt sing it is kind of wiered wherefore again the series was based on a mother and her two daughters living a normal life and dealing with reality life issues an someday said that there was a unaired pilot episode I was searching it
On YouTube and didn't happen to find it I didn't know that there was a unaired pilot I had asked this previousely did they have a spin off Saturday morning cartoons show

Which sounds like how they edited for CBS Daytime reruns...

Could be. When watching both episodes on the DVD, it definitely appears like something is deleted/edited right at the beginning after the opening credits.

You can check this site or do your own google search. I have not searched the site but it has TV shows and the music per episodes.

I have a question how people think that Valarie, Sally Field and Nia Pebbles from Walker Texas Ranger can go for sisters and also the lady who played as George Wife on the George Lopez show and she also played in Selena

The lady who sang the theme song for One Day at a Time a country singer because the song itself sounded country and I saw the songs on YouTube where Juiley and Barbera are singing don't go breaking my heart and two songs that Juiley an Steve Bono was performing.

Shout has said in the comment section of a series release (don't remember which one) that there are way too many music clearances for them to consider Murphy Brown.

Murphy Brown should be on DVD, considering that it's getting more exposure via Antenna airing it, and the reboot coming to CBS. It's getting more "new" fans.

I'm sure putting together the WKRP in Cincinnati set, with all the music clearance problems, was a nightmare. Perhaps they don't want to go through that again.

The episode where Schneider sings and dances (on the coffee table!) is at the beginning of the episodes A Little Larceny from Season 5, when Barbara starts selling football cards!

See it here before YouTube deletes it!
