View Full Version : Kirk: I detest this character !
HumanGerm 12-04-2017, 07:44 AM I'm so glad that this character appears in only 2 seasons, tho, lol, that is 2 too many for me!
I don't think he's even remotely funny. Instead, he's selfish, venal, egocentric as well as egotistical. He has little conscience. He lies constantly. I find him sadistic as well.

His character was more annoying than funny. He did get a few laughs during his time on the show. He was one of my least favorite characters.
Agreed. I wonder what Cindy saw in him?
HumanGerm 12-05-2017, 05:57 AM Wavy- indeed! She had to have been a saint!
Lol, funny how the daryls and Larry actually had more customers at the minutemen than Kirk. I can also see why his former girlfriend left he and the cafe high and dry. I'm sure she could see what was down the pike with that douche bag!
PhoenixAcres 12-06-2017, 11:04 PM Kirk was a great character! He may be hard to get used to, but as the series progresses you get to see more sides to him and he's always a reliable source of laughs, IMO.
As I recall, the severity of his personality was toned down about midway through the first season. He kept enough quirks to make him an interesting sitcom character. He may be egocentric, greedy, etc. but he still had a heart, and that made him an effective character I think.
Edward216 01-26-2018, 12:56 AM I think that Kirk was unlikable was the whole point LOL. But yeah definitely too unlikable I was glad when the character was written out of the show too.

Sterling Holobyte 02-01-2018, 01:36 AM I thought Kirk was hilarious. I always liked the character. His manic, ...I don't know what you'd call it, ...obsessive-compulsiveness(?) was a good contrast to Dick's - and George's - relaxed, dry humor.
SarahBellum 09-03-2021, 12:12 PM Were we supposed to believe that Kirk ran the Minuteman Cafe all by himself as waiter, cook, cashier, etc? Were there no customers there when he came over to see Dick?
RetroGuy2000 09-03-2021, 01:21 PM Michael was a much better character; still egocentric, of course.
SarahBellum 09-03-2021, 02:45 PM I liked Michael initially but I grew tired of him when he became so sappy over Stefanie.

A little Stephanie/Michael goes a LONG way!
Kirk was pretty good, despite being unlikeable at times.
Did you know the actor wrote for WKRP?

RetroGuy2000 09-03-2021, 04:30 PM No, I had no idea!

Agreed. I much prefer Kirk over Michael.
What....no way... Kirk was great after they added Cindy. I was sorry when they wrote him off!

Me too. He was still funny even after he toned down a bit. I would've liked to have seen him grow in the show. I think he and Michael could easily have existed in the same show universe.
Oddly enough though, in the second season where we meet and see more of Michael, you'll notice that Michael and Kirk were never in the same scene, which was a shame, I thought. I would have loved to have seen them interact. I think Kirk would have made Michael cry a lot though. Or I should say, a lot more than he already did.
They came close once though. In the dining room, when Kirk was giving Dick and Joanna presents bought during his honeymoon, and then he leaves via the door to the kitchen, and almost immediately Michael enters the dining room from the lobby.
