View Full Version : Do you like salty food?
Family Ties Forever! 10-19-2017, 05:08 PM Do you like salty food?
I do, however, I'm finding that I can't handle salt as well as I used to. I had a PayDay candy bar the other day and it was so salty. I couldn't believe I didn't enjoy it. I like Ritz and Saltines, but will have to start limiting how many.
PhoenixAcres 10-19-2017, 07:53 PM I do in moderation. However, I can't stand when some foods are pumped so full of salt you taste it more than the food. It can become disgusting and unnatural if taken to extremes.
Schmoopie 11-19-2017, 08:42 AM I'm a saltaholic but as long as it's not overly salty I enjoy things like chips, etc.
OH Nuts! 11-20-2017, 07:49 AM Yes I'll take salt over sugar any time. I can see a tray of fresh brownies and only have a taste to be satisfied. But with a bag of Dortos, I need an iron will to not scarf down a 6 oz bag. (When I'm really Jonesing for some I have to weigh and measure.). Thankfully my blood pressure is fine, so I don't have to overly restrict.
tlc38tlc38 11-20-2017, 10:16 AM Not real salty but I do like some on my potatoes.

Brownies are very hard for me to resist. I love brownies. :)
Dude111 10-17-2022, 02:53 PM I love salt,it makes stuff taste better.....
I didnt like it when they started attacking our food and taking salt out,its not as healthy!!
Salt helps regulate our blood so it doesnt pass too quickly thru our hearts!
Caroline13 10-17-2022, 03:11 PM Overdoing on both are harmful...I've learned that when I would eat foods with extra salt I'd take some potassium tablets to counteract the sodium rise. Too much sugars, lead to glucose issues.
GentlemanJim 10-17-2022, 04:14 PM I remember buying salted pistachio nuts (in the shell) that were so heavily salted that they looked like they had been painted white. They were so good. I have not even seen these for sale in 40 years. After a couple dozen my ears would be ringing.
A few years back Campbell's soups all started tasting raunchy. A friend told me they had modified all their recipes to be more healthful...removed the "excess" salt. So, after I started adding back the salt, their soups are tasty once again.
I use way too much salt when cooking.....but I'd rather die young but enjoy the food that I eat, than spend 25 years in misery eating tasteless food, just so I can suffer longer.
Caroline13 12-13-2023, 02:53 PM Reminder, higher salt intake and one needs to take extra potassium foods or supplements.
biffbronson 12-13-2023, 04:59 PM If you're going to buy ordinary table salt, be sure to get the Iodized type. The body needs iodine!
Dude111 12-14-2023, 11:01 AM Yea well I get natural sea salt because I think its BETTER for what I put it on.... I think I get Iodine in other stuff.....
biffbronson 12-18-2023, 03:45 PM I use it when I boil pasta, otherwise practically never.
PaperClips 12-18-2023, 04:22 PM Yeah I do like salty foods. If I make something, I don't put salt on it though, I usually use Mrs. Dash. The spicy version of Mrs. Dash is really good.
Caroline13 12-18-2023, 05:08 PM Mrs. Dash has been around Forever...mom used it when I was growing up. Actuallly founded in the 80's so I'm mistaken, for some reason I was thinking it'[s been around a lot longer.
I have not used it in eons...time to buy it again.
stevea 12-18-2023, 08:02 PM Oh, definitely! Really bad with it, but always have good BP.
biffbronson 12-19-2023, 07:54 AM I took my BP a couple of days ago, 111/68.
In the past I used oregano as a seasoning, but eventually depleted my supply that came from northern Greece -- at one time I had enough to fill a couple of quart-size jars, but my brother's family borrowed heavily.
