By recalling that's it's ALSO Sputnik's 60th Anniversary and considering how ironic that BOTH iconic items were launched on the VERY SAME DAY -yet Sputnik sputtered out and crashed within months (and the Soviet Union did the same some 30 years later) while LITB is STILL airing places.

Why would I not be surprised if Ward somehow blamed Beav for Sputnik? LOL

LOL. How did I spend the LITB anniversary? Well I had jury duty so missed both episodes.

Happy 60th Anniversary to an Iconic show.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY :D

I can't believe this show is 60 years old. Quality shows will remain relevant and entertaining long after their original runs, and LITB is one of them.

Happy anniversary Beaver. A true classic.

Leave It To Beaver is one of those shows that's been more popular in syndication compared to it's original run.

The complete series DVD from Shout Factory is good, although they made an error with the opening teasers of the season 1 episodes. I ended up keeping my season 1 set from Universal because everything is correct on that one.

LITB is a show that is fun to watch and I probably shouldn't say this here but I think the first 4 seasons of the Andy Griffith Show are far superior and much more believable in acting and writing. Andy and Barney were brilliant.

To me, the shows are of an equal level of quality. LITB did material about kids better than any other show. Whenever TAGS did kid-centered plots it seemed forced. Ultimately the focus of both shows was different; each was excellent in its own way.

I have to agree about the Opie issues being forced but still love the baby birds episode, Mr. McBeevee and Opie's Hobo Friend. There are a few more and Opie sure was cute.

Yes, "Mr. Mc Beevee" is one of my favorite TAGS episodes.

Wow today was the 61st anniversary? I did see Beaver today but only the one when Beaver called Ken a cheat. “I guess I had a few too many, you know how that is?”

Beaver: No I don’t know.

It would be fun to commemorate the 60th anniversary of various episodes on the appropriate date - for example, if an episode originally aired on October 20, 1958, you could watch the episode on October 20, 2018. All you would have to do is download the complete episode list with the original air dates. I plan to do this with my favorite episodes throughout the next few years.

My thought today (on that episode) was -- How many 8th-grader caddies would have the nerve to go to a prominent attorney's office, and boldly accuse him of cheating on his golf score?

The catch was the bet, but my thought is (assuming the normal kid is honest and wants to do something) most kids would probably go to a parent with the problem.

Yeah and this was really strange. Beaver was always going to Ward when he had a problem like guessing the number of fish and Eddie’s interference, telling Ward about the bill from the record company, asking him about girls, the English test that he took from Wally’s Test, etc so why didn’t he tell Ward about the bet and how he caddied for Langley and the cheating?

Particularly since Ward revealed the big bet, and Beaver didn't know about it until then. That would have been a perfect opportunity for Beaver to say, "Dad, can I talk to you? I've got a problem and it's about that bet."

I guess it was time for Beaver to grow up and make up his own mind as to how to handle a situation without asking Daddy. He had a lot of nerve to approach Langley. I bet Jerry liked this episode. I don’t think Ward ever found out.

It was similar to the model episode, where he went to Mr. Compton to get out of his jam. That took nerve, and he was three years younger then. Boy, these Mayfield kids sure have amazing mobility.

This topic got me thinking...when MeTV starts the "Beaver" cycle over again, do they ever show the pilot, that had a different Ward and Wally?

No, they don't. I'd like to see them mix in some New LITB episodes.

I think the pilot was It’s a Small World and Max Showalter a.k.a Casey Adams was not the best actor for Ward. Hugh was perfect in the role. Tony was perfect as Wally the other kid was already getting older. Max as Ward smoked too. Always loved the chemistry between Hugh and June. That relationship became rather formal later.
