View Full Version : Cross-over Sitcoms
MrCleveland 08-29-2017, 02:43 PM Many sitcoms will have characters from other shows pop-in.
When I grew-up, we had Steve Urkel join Full House as a cameo. And on Mr. Cooper, Michelle Tanner had a part on the show...Jeff Franklin produced BOTH Full House and Mr. Cooper.
Any other good examples of sitcom cross-overs?
Teen Angel had Sabrina, The Teenage Witch
The John Larroquette Show had John calling into Frasier's radio show
Bonniegirl 08-29-2017, 04:44 PM Granny from the Beverly Hillbillies turned up on Mr. Ed in Love and the single horse.
William Hogan Jr 08-29-2017, 05:04 PM Petticoat Junction cast on Green Acres, Green Acres cast on Petticoat Junction, Granny and Miss Jane on Petticoat Junction, and The Petticoat Junction and Green Acres casts on The Beverly Hillbillies.

Some of the best sitcom episodes ever!
Edward216 08-30-2017, 02:00 AM Well there was Golden Girls, which then spun off the occasionally seen neighbor Dr. Harry Weston on to Empty Nest. Empty Nest in turn then had it's own spinoff The Nurses, about the nurses and some other doctors that worked at the same hospital in Miami that Harry Weston did. All 3 of these shows did a crossover. It concerned a hurricane hitting Miami and the characters from all 3 sitcoms were seen in each of the respective shows.

principehomura 08-30-2017, 06:03 AM Mad About You crossed-over with Seinfeld, then Friends crossed over with Mad About You.
treky 08-31-2017, 12:17 AM I don't know if this counts but once Carl Reiner guest-starred on MAD ABOUT YOU as Alan Brady from THE DICK VAN DYKE SHOW.
treky 08-31-2017, 12:19 AM HAPPY DAYS and LAVERNE & SHIRLEY did cross-overs a couple times.
Bonniegirl 08-31-2017, 01:20 AM Samantha & Darren guest starred on the Flintstones ! :)

JamesG 08-31-2017, 11:38 AM Some more recent ones:
- "New Girl" and "Brooklyn Nine-Nine"
- Tim Allen appeared as his "Last Man Standing" character on "Cristela"
- "Hot in Cleveland" and "Kirstie"
Wizards Of Waverly Place, The Suite Life On Deck, and Hannah Montana
factsoflife 09-01-2017, 01:41 AM Speaking of Steve Urkel, he also crossed over onto "Step By Step" the same night he was on "Full House". It was part of a multiple show crossover event.
Other shows,
Growing Pains produced the spin-off "Just the Ten of Us" and several characters from "just the ten of us" appeared on "Growing Pains" first.
Ray Romano appeared as his "Everybody Loves Raymond" character Ray Barone on an episode of "The Nanny."
"The King of Queens" featured frequent crossovers from the cast of "Everybody Loves Raymond", as the shows both aired on CBS on Monday nights. Most notably Ray Romano and Patricia Heaton appeared as their ELR characters, who were said to be friends with the Heffernan's, Carrie and Doug from King of Queens.
Fiver characters from "Cheers" crossed over to NBC's "Wings", Frasier, Lillith, Cliff, Norm and Rebecca.
In the mid-1990's ABC did a Las Vegas themed cross over event featuring Grace Under Fire, Coach, The Drew Carey Show and Ellen.
MrCleveland 09-01-2017, 12:02 PM Does the FOL Pilot count since it had The Drummond Family as well?
Bonniegirl 09-01-2017, 12:16 PM HR Pufnstuf turned up on CHIPS!!!!

treky 09-01-2017, 04:03 PM "CHIPS" wasn't a sitcom. And it was just one character from "H.R. Pufenstuf" so that can hardly be considered a cross-over.
treky 09-01-2017, 04:05 PM "FAMILY GUY" and "THE SIMPSONS" did a cross-over.

It was pretty close! A lot of scenes were played for laughs. I'd consider this a crossover.

Edward216 09-02-2017, 11:21 PM Not sure if this counts since The Jeffersons had been off the air several years when it happened. The characters of George and Louise Jefferson show up in the last episode of The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air as prospective buyers of Philip and Vivian Banks' mansion which they are selling.
Not sure if this counts either. But Tootie from The Facts Of Life was on Diff'rent Strokes once or twice after Facts Of Life became a series. I don't remember though if any characters from Diff'rent Strokes except Edna Garrett appeared on The Facts Of Life. Maybe somebody else will remember.

I think it counts!!!! ;)

It definitely counts!
Felice Schachter, Kim Fields, Julie Piekarski, Molly Ringwald and Lisa Whelchel were on Diff'rent Strokes for the backdoor pilot of The Facts of Life. Then Conrad Bain, Gary Coleman, Todd Bridges and Dana Plato were on The Facts of Life for the first episode, "Rough Housing".
They did crossovers for a couple of years before phasing them out.
Kim Fields, Julie Anne Haddock, Molly Ringwald, and Mindy Cohn appeared in the Diff'rent Strokes episode "The Slumber Party". Kim Fields also appeared in "The Team", "First Day Blues", and "The Bank Job". Lisa Whelchel appeared in "The Older Man". Charlotte Rae appeared in "The Wedding".
Todd Bridges appeared in The Facts of Life episode "Bought and Sold". Gary Coleman appeared in "The New Girl, Part 1". Oddly, Dana Plato made no appearances on FOL after the pilot; odd, considering that she was supposedly going to Eastland around that time. She should have been seen somewhere on campus!
FOL characters and DS characters also made appearances on Hello Larry.
I believe Charlotte Rae's 1984 appearance in "The Wedding" was the very last DS/FOL crossover, but I know DS also had a crossover with The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, with Conrad Bain and Gary Coleman reprising their DS roles in the 1990s.

Has Conrad Bain's character ever been on FOL on other eps besides the pilot?
BigManMike 09-03-2017, 10:55 AM Has Conrad Bain's character ever been on FOL on other eps besides the pilot?
No, he was only in the pilot. Same for Dana Plato.
DJM77 09-03-2017, 12:56 PM FOL characters and DS characters also made appearances on Hello Larry.
What episode of Hello, Larry did characters from The Facts Of Life appear on?
The Diff'rent Strokes/Hello, Larry crossovers were all Diff'rent Strokes episodes. That was NBC's failed attempt to boost the ratings for Hello, Larry.
RetroGuy2000 09-03-2017, 03:37 PM What episode of Hello, Larry did characters from The Facts Of Life appear on?
Mrs. Garrett, who had already done four episodes of The Facts of Life when the Thanksgiving crossover was made, and who had most recently appeared on FOL when she did the "Feudin' and Fussin'" crossover episode.

I get what you're saying, but I just consider that to be a case of Hello, Larry characters appearing on Diff'rent Strokes. Not the other way around.
JamesG 09-03-2017, 08:05 PM "George Lopez" and "Freddie"

Well, IMDb disagrees (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078623/fullcredits?ref_=tt_ov_st_sm) with you. They list Conrad Bain, Dana Plato, Gary Coleman, Todd Bridges, and Charlotte Rae as appearing on three episodes of Hello Larry, in addition to McLean Stevenson and Kim Richards appearing in three episodes (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077003/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast) of Diff'rent Strokes, and Krista Errickson appearing in two.

IMDb also lists the cast of Hello, Larry as having appeared on Diff'rent Strokes.
Both crossovers appear in syndication along with the rest of the Diff'rent Strokes episodes.
Both crossovers are on the Diff'rent Strokes DVD's (and they're not listed as bonus material or extras or anything like that).
Both crossovers are listed in all of the online Diff'rent Strokes episode guides, including the one on IMDb.
I do see the crossovers listed in some of the online Hello, Larry episode guides as well, but I still think that they always aired as Diff'rent Strokes episodes.

The note (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Diff%27rent_Strokes_episodes#cite_note-HelloLarryCrossover-2) on the Wikipedia article says that part two of all three crossover episodes aired as Hello Larry episodes.
In its episode guide for Diff'rent Strokes, IMDb lists Fussin' and Feudin', part one (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077003/episodes?season=2&ref_=tt_eps_sn_2), but not part two, which was on Hello Larry (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0559974/?ref_=tt_eps_rhs_1). It lists Thanksgiving Crossover, part one, but not part two, which was on Hello Larry (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0560039/?ref_=tt_eps_rhs_2).
In syndication and on DVD, these Hello Larry episodes were packaged with Diff'rent Strokes. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0560039/trivia?ref_=tt_trv_trv) This was possible because it was the same production company: TAT Communications.

Well, Wikipedia isn't always reliable and I see plenty of Diff'rent Strokes episode guides that have both parts 1 and 2 of both crossovers listed. But maybe you're right about all of this. MAYBE.
