If we could get Anna, Retrokatt, Torgo, and Nordy too, it would be like an awesome family reunion!

It appears the Wednesday ODAAT episodes will be part of "Very Special Episode" week. And what could be more special than a twink throwing a plant or a hot dude potentially hooking up with his ex-sister-in-law?

yeah it seemed comedy and drama were more his movie and TV genre! ;)

I think he would do good in a horror movie! With his many facial expressions and he's very excitable!! ;)

Torgo said he was in an episode of Tales from the Darkside (I think it was that ? A show like that anyway)! Oh yeah he was in one! "Haunts of the rich and famous"!!! How could I have forgotten adorable, sexy Strawberry boy" ?? :eyes:

Does anyone know which "very special" episodes of OD are set to be featured? There are so many! The Runaways arc would be a great contender, Sven! It seems to me that OD had very few "frivolous" episodes, like practically every ep strived for that much later coined appellation.

I liked how Ann didn't capitulate to the runaways' demands. That took some guts.

I liked Pride and Privacy too, but I don't know if Alex would have been so happy about Ann and Sam's joining if he knew it meant his expulsion. Gay or not, he had the world's hottest foster sister!

Don't know if you've heard the news (She posted in on FACEBOOK) - FOOD Network has ordered a 7th and 8th "Season" of Valerie's show (Don't know why they call them "Seasons" since they run more than one a year) and the 6th "Season" starts in a few weeks, just in time to tie into her new cookbook coming out.

I wonder if we'll ever see her in anything scripted again - she has said she'd like to do another sitcom. She's too busy in the kitchen :)

Anyone else notice on the Embassy-CBS Daytime-Sony Syndication prints many times the opening scene from "The Fluff" to "The A Plot" are edited. I've noticed this on episodes from seasons 1-3.

The prints originally edited for CBS Daytime formed the basis for the early episodes (Up to/through Season 5 or so) Embassy/Sony Syndication prints. The Daytime rebroadcasts were edited for more commercials down to the length similar to the game shows and soaps which conveniently was close to the eventual 22:30 prime-time length eventually needed for syndication. Not every episode was done this way, but I've noticed a few when watching the Embassy/Sony Syndication prints.

LOGO has shortened some opening scenes, not all,and on some episodes less than Embassy/Sony did. As were are aware, they tend to shorten many scenes, pull lines of dialog and pull short scenes throughout the episodes.

You always have a little "Fluff" or "B-Plot" in the opening scene that makes it easier to edit out which is what Embassy did alot more than logo.

An example - the episode where the girls want pierced ears and try to do it themselves - that whole segment is cut in the Embassy/Sony/CBS Daytime edit but not the LOGO edit. There's one of the Bob episodes which the syndication print starts with Bob already on the sofa with Barbara and Cliff.

I bet if you took a Syndication print and a LOGO print you could edit them together and they'd run unuct :)

It's just crazy, isn't it :)

I didn't watch much Logo, just certain episodes to see what they did with them. I still have 'Nearness' on the DVR, which I should get to in about 2 weeks (looking forward to finally seeing Ann's scene again).

They definitely started some episodes earlier than Antenna (which kept Barbara in 'The Maestro' :) )

I still will never believe that Logo "runs nearly uncut". Their edits ate horrible. 19 minutes vs. Antenna's 22:30-23:00 cuts. The syndication prints also keep in stuff that LOGO hacks out.

Svenfan1234
08-20-2017, 08:46 PM
Logo is run by people who can't edit properly! It's insane. TV Land 2, guys, the Son of the Hackjob...

The "Embassy/Sony" syndication prints are better than Logo's because they keep 5-6 more minutes in than Logo.

This pilot was from 1982. Michael was probably weighing his options;) the way the situation with MacKenzie was , thinking he might not have a job on ODAAT anymore! ?

So wow, yeah in a way it's a good thing this show didn't come about (unless it would have become a big hit?

The worst opening edit still has to be Barbara standing in the school hallway with a kimono on, for no given reason. I mean, she looked cute, but still...

It's a digital network that is available over the air and streaming. They primarily air classic sci fi movies along with classic Mystery Science Theater. A pentagram is like a sign you're a werewolf, I think.

I don't really do much streaming either.:p But I only have good-ol' fashioned over-the-air antenna and digital converter box... :) I still want Sven to show it even though he would SO "svensor" it for content (although he kept the brutal murder scene intact on Curse of the Werewolf...) Yeah but he hasn't gotten the rights back unfortunately.

But he sure knows how to subtly edit, unlike LOGO. I will tell you this- I assure you Logo wouldn't (and they don't) go to extreme lengths to make sure 7 seconds, 10 seconds, etc. is cut out at a time. Why must RetroKatt support them when all they do is butcher for more ads?

You hit the milestone before I posted about it!

IDK, I never got the idea RetroKatt supports Logo; I think he likes to post the airing schedules of all ODAAT episodes, Antenna included, which definitely helps us fans as to when to set our DVRs!
I do agree with you that Logo stinks for many reasons. They're supposed to be a gay-oriented network, yet aside from "RuPaul's Drag Race," which I personally feel is god-awful, bottom of the barrel, beyond redemption TV, all they do is show reruns. Also, I hate the off the hour/half hour scheduling. For the small amount of time I've watched it, I didn't notice the massive edits, but I believe you that they're there.

Yeah. It's him treating Logo like they're the best thing because of the massive edits . it's like how Sven said that edited movies and shows on broadcast TV and cable TV are sadly a thing, but Logo just haphazardly cuts whole scenes out of ODAAT, Alice, etc. no matter how important some of the content in those scenes may be to the plot. All they care about is the almighty dollar. That's why you see 11 minutes of ads per 30 minutes on Logo. I don't care about editing techniques, it's wrong and simply put, that's all there is to the matter. Wrong. Haphazard. Editing hacks.

But anyway, enough about that. How've you been anyway?

Look, For the record I don't like the editing on LOGO, but accept it as their business model. Do I defend it -only as an example of the business model.

It's better these shows be on the air in some form than sitting in the vaults, which what ONE DAY AT A TIME did (Domestically) for almost 15 years between E! and AntennaTV with the odd station and the early Comcast On-Demand in between. ALICE also was out of syndication for a period of time as well.

Most of us are not going to agree on this, so we're just going around in circles. and as a reminder every pre-1985 tv show has been edited for television in one form or another. LOGO is just the extreme!

And as oft reminded, Viacom has been using LOGO as a defacto TV LAND 2 for all intensive purposes. And last time I Looked, the editing was close to the same over on TV LAND for the pre-1985 Shows as well.

Logo... ugh... gives me a bad taste in my mouth thinking about it...

I don't care about perfect. I watch credit crunched episodes and the syndicated versions. If Logo at least stuck with THOSE versions, it'd be a lot better than 19-min episodes. That's my POV. That's why it's Fetv ftw!

I already own the complete series on DVD, and it airs 18-minute episodes on that trashy LOGO once in awhile. I'm just glad Alice Season 5 is out on DVD, and 6 coming soon confirmed by Warner Archive, and that hopefully Shout Factory releases One Day at a Time unedited complete series from Sony, so we no longer have to rely(as in we, I mean mostly Bonnie, RetroKatt and occasionally Opus) on the ~19 minute ODAAT episodes with horrific editing.

I think Dana made me laugh the most as Audrey. When they're at the dinner table with the German family, and the sausage is being passed around, and Dana says "God, I miss Jack." Easily one of the funniest lines and deliveries in the entire franchise.

Dana was also in the 1982 movie Shoot The Moon, she played the sister of Tina Yothers and Tracy Gold.

She had such comic timing and dramatic range. Very sad she died so young. :(

She and Dana Barron were the best Audrey's. I didn't like the other two, they were badly miscast.

Juliette Lewis went on to other things of course but the very pretty one from Vegas Vacation just faded away to obscurity it seems.

Yeah, she was in this movie called "Fallen Angel" with Richard Masur and was just incredibly effective as a victim of child pornography.

Richard Masur really went to the dark side in that one. :(

Both of them gave powerful performances.

She was gone way too soon.

The two Dana's were the best ones, but I still like Juliette Lewis as Audrey.

Yeah, it seems the Audrey and Rusty of Christmas Vacation both went on to great success later. Anthony Michael Hall got hot until he got muscles, then faded, then came back for a bit in the 2000's. The Rusty from Vegas Vacation is making a sorta comeback now as he's been appearing in a lot of recent horror films. Recently saw him in Devil's Candy, and he was really good. Also he's funny on the new sitcom with Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.

She was one of those that because she looked young played younger for years.

One of Juliette's earliest films Meet The Hollowheads, a weird, surreal spin on 1950's sitcoms, you got to see her with her real life brother Lightfoot (yep Lightfoot Lewis), who played her older brother. But I think that might even have been her film debut.
Christmas Vacation is an annual Torgo family tradition.

Jane and Lily are great together, it's very adult oriented, definitely not a family show.

WOW!

Did I see John Glover in there as well?

Yep! He's the dad. The plot is right out of a 1950's sitcom- John Glover playing the husband/father invites his boss home for dinner, so his wife has to come up with something for them to eat. Of course being a horror-esque film things take a very dark turn. The film is set in a weird world, where everything is run by tubes.

The writer/director is Robert Burman, who did the make up effects for the movie Scrooged. He got a few actors from Scrooged involved in the movie like John Glover, Anne and Logan Ramsey.

I wish somebody would/could upload the LOGO versions of some of the eps of ODAAT so I can see for myself how good/bad the editing is... hint, hint...

And also, THIS is the sister of Nickelodeon, who, in 2000, ran Shining Time Station a very good show, and edited it from ~28:30 to about ~22:30 with very disastrous results. You can find it on YouTube.

This is a very good find with the Kaptain Kool Doll.

According to the box he is anatomically correct!

Thanks to you I have my own Deacon Doll now and he is just about to bust out of his own package. ;) :happyface ;)

I still do not get how you guys can support ODAAT on Logo. 19 minute butchered episodes are not MY idea of a good time. And if you combine the Embassy/Sony edits and the Logo edits, you know what you get? Not uncut episodes! At least you can get "homemade sets" of DejaView and Comedy Gold's airings of ODAAT uncut! What a shocking idea, right? Not hacking out pivotal scenes for greed purposes?

Also, LOGO doesn't have anything beyond the RuPaul rehash scheduled starting this Sunday on zap2it. I wonder if ODAAT will finally expire...? Hopefully:)

But again for the record, I'm against over-editing but I accept it's Viacom's business model and there is nothing we can do about it. We're beating a dead horse here. (Come to think of it, anyone running "Mr.Ed" lately? )

The show is on the air nationally in some form, being seen by people who could care less about the editing and the cast/production are receiving residuals.(Those who didn't take "Buy Outs") Plus all of LOGO is streamed on-line at time of airing.

AntennaTV is playing out remaining runs and FeTV doesn't clear as many outlets as LOGO.

It's a catch 22 isn't it. The best way to see the show is the worst way to watch it in some view. But it's there. A show that spent 16 years in the vaults domestically except for an odd station in Chicago and a run on Comcast's early on-demand is now on 3 outlets in various versions

It makes no sense in general how Sony has handled what is Norman Lear's 3rd longest running show (Only one episode shy of "All in The Family") over the years with regards of getting it out there in syndication steadily. It's Lear's only hit show not to be a spin-off or continuation and it ranks as his 3rd most successful show overall. (Even accounting for the timeslot moves it's last two seasons - it balances out the lop-sided ratings - but that can be said for "The Jeffersons" as well)

(Come to think of it,When was the last time "Archie Bunker's Place" aired anywhere? It's the only other Norman Lear hit not to surface in more than a decade, right?)

But this supports my argument that Sony should put the series up on CRACKLE, their on-line streaming on demand-channel. They don't have enough of their classic shows up there as it is. (Nothing pre-1970 and only pre-1980 is "All in The Family")

Perhaps it's time for a letter/email campaign to get SHOUT and/or SONY to finally release more seasons - it's been 10 1/2 years since season one came out!

Antenna's adding Archie Bunker's Place next year, along with Mr.Ed. MeTV lost the rights and Antenna's most likely going to add it back.

Shout! needs to finish ONE DAY AT A TIME badly. Sony is finished with the show on DVD.

Crackle is better than LOGO,but I know for sure Netflix wouldn't pick up the original series unless they forked over tens of millions for digital restoration. Fetv probably runs uncut masters--if not uncut, edited subtly to fit the timeslot.

But LOGO just needs to trash it like they've done with BRADY BUNCH, NEWSRADIO, SABRINA THE TEENAGE WITCH, and many others. 18-minute episodes... no thanks.

Looks like to balance out pre-emptions and perhaps line-up overnight with daytime, there are extra episodes airing Next Week apparently. (I don't have titles for AntennaTV but there's a scheduled airing Sunday 6pm and 6:30pm Eastern)

As usual, any last minute changes (As you know LOGO tends to do - slow to match up listings between the website and the DVR data they supply to the cable companies) will be posted.

The "Business Model" is not the editing per se, but the getting as many commercials they can in a half hour and they figured how much they could get away with.

They don't have to answer to affiliates like the other channels so they can get away with doing it this way.
