All of Ann's hard work and preaching about being independent and finding yourself before marriage, and both Julie and Barbara drop out of college and marry young. I'm not saying don't get married, but do they have to do it at 19?? Ed wanted Barbara to study business administration. Why couldn't she study, graduate, and maybe work at Ed's company? She would only be 22. Plenty of time for marriage.

I think Ann brought up how young she was when she had her second midlife crisis episode too.

Why the rush to marry? Or to try and adopt for that matter? Barbara had a job and college and tried to fit little Jessie into her already overly busy world.

I agree. It's unlikely both girls would have gotten married young, especially given their mother's example. But show wise, it did add new plot angles, which is likely why the girls both got hitched. Still, they could have had them continue and complete their educations.
Maude was kinda the same situation. Maude has an eight year old grandson whilst still in her child bearing years? Possible, but not probable.

I wish that at least Barbara had finished her education. They could have had some good storylines with her at college and maybe going to work with Ed and maybe moving back to Logansport.

I concur! I'm not sure if Babs would have been a college senior in season 9, but her graduation would have made for a nice series finale (as well as possible spin-off)!

Yes! A great series finale and maybe a spin-off. I agree. I didn't like the direction the show took after season 4. Seasons 1-4 were the golden years, the best episodes. The show veered in the wrong direction after that.

While I liked the addition of Alex, and I know Bonniegirl definitely liked (loved? lusted?) the addition of Max, I do agree that the first four seasons were the heart of the show, what it was intended to be. Mac's addiction and removal changed the show's direction, though they did move from that in fairly realistic ways. Other shows might have brought in a Julie clone, or destroyed the show in myriad other ways. IMO, it did remain watchable....and we had Alex...and Max..:)

It was halfway watchable after season 4, but it increasingly seemed like a totally different show. The original premise was gone.

In retrospect, I agree! At the time, I was more cognizant when Alex came aboard; but yeah watching the reruns it was a different show by then.

But realistically after Season 4 the girls were getting older and OK we already got it that Ann was a liberated divorced woman who got a good job and made a good living without a man ! And that got BORING!!!:rolleyes: I liked how it moved on and the girls got Husbands and the show went in a different direction but a good one IMO!;) The first couple of seasons were great , the Girls young, Ann just finding herself , but it needed to move on!;)

And Alex Cooper is right, a lot of the way the show went was a result of Mack's addiction problems!
