View Full Version : Wadada not on streaming
SarcasticBella 06-26-2017, 06:35 PM I wonder what the reasoning behind this is. I know some episodes have been left out due to legal reasons.
For those who do not remember this case, it was of a college freshman named Sarah. She was friends with a man named Wadada. I'm not sure exactly what country he was from, but they said he spoke with a heavy Caribbean accent. I don't believe he was a student at the university, but rather just hung around and mooched off of students.
He ended up raping and beating Sarah with a hammer. By some miracle, she survived and was able to identify Wadada as her attacker. He hasn't been seen since.
Despite not haven seen this episode in close to 20 years, it still sticks in my mind as one of the most terrifying UM segments ever.
Tap Dancer 06-26-2017, 07:01 PM Aww, that's a shame. Wadada sounded so freaky from the way they described him with the claw hand, but he was one of my favorites.

tlc38tlc38 06-26-2017, 07:31 PM Glad I have this segment on my bootleg set. I think the set was done by Crystal Dawn. I got it on ioffer. It has over 1,000 segments.

That she was able to survive this without serious brain damage is nothing short of a miracle in my opinion. It just amazes me.
freakbook 06-26-2017, 09:20 PM Sucks this isn't included. This segment and his little chicken wing of a hand were super creepy. Looks like something from a bad b-movie.
DazzlerSparkler 06-26-2017, 11:18 PM Didn't actor have legal problems as a results of this episode?
dynoguy88 06-27-2017, 12:19 AM Sidenote: Sarah Beard's rape and attempted murder by Wadada, Kaitlyn Arquette's murder and Tara Calico's disappearance. All three girls were students at the University of New Mexico. And even though there are strong theories, all three cases are still unsolved and nobody has been punished for the crimes.
UM's unluckiest school? Sheesh.

After viewing this segment, I tend to walk around the house for the next few days saying, "ZADADEEDA DI GAI! ZADADEEDA DI GAI! ZADADEEDA DI GAI!" Drives my wife nuts...
(Maybe there is a 12-step program for UM addiction?)

I think I heard rumors that he would be recognized in public after the UM segment aired and people actually called the tip line. I guess it's not surprising, given that he was a pretty distinct-looking guy and there was no photograph of the real Wadada.
The actor, Jeffrey Anderson-Gunter, also has a fairly extensive filmography. When the UM segment originally aired, I remember immediately recognizing him as a henchman from the Steven Seagal film, "Marked for Death". He also had a bit part in "Naked Gun 33 1/3", which came out only a month after he portrayed Wadada:

I wonder if that school/area have a lot of immigrants hanging around the school, such as Wadada, who just go back to their home countries and fade away?
SarcasticBella 06-27-2017, 06:00 PM Very good question, freakbook. Though I'm not sure if he was actually enrolled in classes or not. The vibe I got, though it has been so long since I've seen the episode, was that he just hung around and kind of lived off of his friends.
Anyone who has seen it more recently remember if he was a student or not?

Yeah, I don't think he was a student. It was said that he just mooched off them. I wonder how many other immigrants hung around the school/area and preyed on students?
freakbook 06-27-2017, 06:07 PM I'm not making any excuses for this scumbag, but I wonder how he had so many friends to the point they all supported him, but he just flipped like that? I wonder if he was under the influence when this happened.
Tap Dancer 06-27-2017, 06:15 PM If he was a student, I assume the school would know his full name. It seems that everyone only knew him as Wadada. Maybe he was homeless and hung out on campus, befriending students for food? I also think he was mentally ill and possibly on drugs to attack Sarah like that.

I had not heard of this, but it might very well explain why they are no longer showing the episode.

That's what I'm thinking! How so many people supported him without getting anything in return is beyond me. Unless he was providing drugs in exchange for food and housing.

I had this same thought. If he was enrolled, there would have been record of him. I got the impression he was mentally ill.

After thinking more about it, maybe you can expand this to New Mexico being UM's unluckiest state.
On top of Sarah Beard, Tara Calico and Kaitlyn Arquette, you have Anthonette Cayedito, David Stone, Father Reynaldo Rivera, Steve Sandlin, Jonathan Francia and the Las Cruces Bowling Alley massacre. All these cases are still unsolved.
The only solved case I can think of out of New Mexico is Jarred Peters being located after being abducted by satanic grandma.

Damn good theory I didn't even think about. Him being a dope pusher is very plausible. Why else would so many students associate with a homeless, seemingly mentally ill man?

Wow, you're right, that's terrible. I'll add Robert Stack's trench coat to the list. It's too hot to wear it there. NM claims another one. JK. That is awful though. I have a hard time watching the Las Cruces one, so messed up.

To add a city to this..Houston, TX is pretty unlucky I'd say: Mary Morris, Mary Morris,Opal Zacharias, Marilu Geri, Tara Breckenridge, Cecelia Ortega, Ed Baker, Joan Jeffries. And the guy who bombed the Olsteens. All Unsolved.
Also add Richard Minns and Edward Bell, both of whom were captured. And Kristie Martin (one out of two suspects captured).

Yes. This is indeed a weird, rare case.

I too have a very hard time watching it. I think I've only seen it twice. I believe they made a documentary about it in the past few years, but I have not been able to get a hold of it. This one really just tears me up inside. Such violence to such innocent victims, many children, for no apparent reason. Just awful.

Yeah, it was a long shot to solve from the beginning. All they had was a first name (and whose to say that was his actual first name) and a police sketch. Oh, and the description of a seriously disfigured, claw like hand. Not to mention the guy was a foreigner, so he could be anywhere.
Though I do believe that he has such a unique appearance, that if he was continuing to harm girls, we would hear about it. I don't know of more than one foreign black man with a disfigured hand that rapes and beats women.

Don't forget Sarah Powell, too. She was from metro Houston.

flytrapp 07-03-2017, 12:43 PM This is one of the first segments I can remember as a kid and it scared the life out of me!
Wadada was definitely not a student. The segment says he just hung around the area. It sounded like he was fairly well known to most students. What bothers me is when Sarah was in the hospital (and couldn't yet speak) her father went through the alphabet asking Sarah to squeeze his hand when he reached the letter that her attacker's first name started with. When they got to W, she squeezed. Her parents asked her a couple of different names with no response. Her father then asked "was it Wadada?" and she squeezed. Obviously he had been enough of a part of Sarah's college experience that his name had been mentioned to her parents before. Anyway, on to the part that bothered me....LE couldn't do anything until Sarah could actually speak the name of her attacker. A squeeze wasn't good enough for them to make an arrest. I believe about a week later Sarah was able to speak and only then did LE start looking for Wadada, which of course by this time he was long gone. I get that a squeeze may not be good enough for an arrest, but at least try to find the guy and bring him in for questioning. Then again, because Sarah's mom didn't find her for over 24 hours barely alive after the attach, Wadada was probably long gone anyway.
justins5256 07-03-2017, 01:17 PM I was just thinking about something. I'm a student and I also work at a very large university here in Florida. The campus is extremely vast, and also open and accessible with little security. It would be very easy for someone like Wadada to come in and interact with and even mooch off students without much fear of repercussion.
The demographics of the student population also come in to play. We are talking about a lot of late teens and early twenty somethings who aren't very worldly and also have curiosities about or even inclinations toward experimenting with alcohol and drugs.
It's a dangerous combination of circumstances, and someone slick enough and with a predatory mentality could take advantage quite easily.
My best guess is that Wadada was a drifter type and merely moved on to some other location after this incident with Sarah.

I think he did too, probably outside the US. I'd guess he left the US immediately after, and hasn't returned.
freakbook 07-03-2017, 09:01 PM I wonder if he had the means to leave the U.S.?
I wonder if he had the means to leave the U.S.?
He probably didn't. He likely left the U.S. the same way he arrived there, and lived there: by mooching off someone
