View Full Version : E! True Hollywood Story to air again!
MariposaLKB 05-07-2002, 12:23 PM Tonight at 10 PM Eastern, E! is running the "True Hollywood Story" about Freddie once again. Get out the hankies and watch it for me, somebody--I can't take it after the way it gave me nightmares! But if you have missed it before it is worth seeing--as long as you are aware that it is scary in the portrayal of his last moments of life!
Cheryl Harrell 05-07-2002, 01:07 PM Thanks for the info! Since our satellite dish is an old one with no descrambler & I can't seem to find one for it we can't get paid channels like E etc. I don't know of anywhere I could go to watch it. Can't go to my parents as it'd be too close to their bedtime to go over there then. We gotta go to the hospital soon to get our precriptions refilled, then out to eat & to a mall up there. By the time we get back it'll be over probably anyway. I'll dig out my tape of it tonite when I get back & watch it.
Yes, the show is very sad & you & you'll need plenty of hankies. It is really sad in the end when he dies & they show the funeral. I can't bear to watch the funeral. It made me cry my eyes out. I went thru the hankies watching it & had a real sobfest. Trust me you'll need to have plenty of hankies when you watch this... :crying: :crying: I'm glad to see him on tv again... Just so sorry it was for such a sad thing... :crying:
Pitooey 05-07-2002, 01:20 PM I'll Watch it AGAIN....... Even if it's not as I remember the story to be. I just want to see beautiful Freddie again........ :crying: Hmmmm.... Where were his so-called Good friends when this story came out? Tony Orlando? etc.???
Cheryl Harrell 05-08-2002, 06:16 AM I wonder why they didn't interview any of his other friends like Tony Orlando or his mom? I still wonder why...
I watched my tape of the E-TRUE HOLLYWOOD STORY after we got back home to make up for not having cable tv to watch it on. Cried my eyes out watching it, it was soooo sad. Seeing the funeral & eulogy just kills me. Had me sobbing. It hurts so bad to see that. I saw a clip of his comic act & that had me bawling. I never knew him but I feel like I did in this past year. I cried so hard watching it that I had 2 hankies soaking wet, had trouble breathing for a few minutes & had a bit of a headache which I still have. It upset me so bad seeing the sad stuff in it that after it was over, I went crying to Mike. He tried to calm me down by saying he was up in heaven & he's happy there now. But you know me, I want him here alive with us now. :crying: :crying:
After that I went to the bedroom to undress for the nite & Mike came in & found me crying over Freddie, sobbing hanky & all. I think he was concerned that it was upsetting me too much. He told me if it was gonna upset me that much maybe I shouldn't watch it. I told him I'll be okay, it's just something that makes me really sad every time I see it. I laid down for awhile trying to get over being sad. I needed to get on the puter & check my e-mail & the message boards I do like this one & the other Freddie boards & Arlo's message boards. I wound up staying on much too late due to doing up those Freddie pics I put up on the other thread & it takes awhile to do e-mail & message boards anyway.
I wish this were just some bad nightmare & that he were really alive. It's so sad... :crying::crying:
Cheryl Harrell 05-08-2002, 06:23 AM I want so bad to just put my arms around him & hug him & tell him everything is gonna be allright. I'd tell him that I'd try to help him in anyway I could. & To make everything okay where he didn't die but lived. :crying: :crying:
Karen64 05-08-2002, 09:14 PM Cheryl-your'e such a sweet person! Freddie should have had you as a friend back then! The whole thing makes you want to really cherish the people in your life who are living and let them know everyday that you care about them...
Cheryl Harrell 05-09-2002, 05:33 PM Thanks! :) I wish I could've known him back then. Sadly, I wasn't into him back then but was just a regular watcher of CATM who thought the show was cool as everyone did back then. I was too much into John Travolta, Shaun Cassidy & the Monkees & still am but have grown to love Freddie over the past yr & feel like he is a friend I never knew or met. If only someone could've helped him, he might be here today...

It is sad to watch.Did you see the part where Freddie was standing backstage at a comedy club with someone while waiting to go on stage? He looked as if he was "out of it".Then when it was his turn to go on stage, he ran to the stage very clumsily. :(
Cheryl Harrell 05-13-2002, 01:49 AM I remember that scene! I didn't notice how clumsily he walked but reading your post it hit me yeah he walked like that in that clip. & Then he got out there like a trouper & did his act so normal. I wish that dr had never prescribed him any pills. :crying: :(

I wish he weren't supplied any of the drugs he had taken(Coccaine,Heroin,etc..).Being that Freddie himself had stated that when he was a kid he didn't fit in at school and was always being bullied by the older kids,do you think that he could've started messing with those substances to try to fit in? Or could it have been personal anguish? Or both?
Cheryl Harrell 05-16-2002, 06:14 PM I read an article on Freddie somwhere where he said in High School kids would offer him drugs & he'd turn them down not believing in doing drugs. Don't think he did heroin tho. I wonder if he was so against drugs why did he do them? I could understand the pills as he thought they were medicine but the cocaine??? It's so sad...
Pitooey 05-16-2002, 09:21 PM My view is that he maybe wanted to forget the pain of being harassed at school because he was a sensitive child. At first he experimented but, than he liked it. I'm sure he had people giving it to him and he bought and maybe sold it. I believe he even smoked pot in his own home with the door closed. Usually you start with pot and then take harder and harder drugs. Plus being a comedian he needed something to calm his nerves (who knows?). I'm sure he also had a depression problem and maybe a severe psychological problem and didn't know how to handle the pressure in his brain. Little did he know that taking these substances just made everything worse for him. Sure he had loads of friends but, maybe everyone got scared because he was a big star and they didn't want to rock the boat. That's why I tell my kids about the dangers of substance abuse. They won't learn unless I tell them. :crying:
Now I'm not saying they will never dabble in stuff. Each child is different But, you better believe I have my eyeballs  looking hard at them and plus I show them the bible and Jesus and hope that they won't fall victim. :crying:
Cheryl Harrell 05-17-2002, 07:00 AM You sound like you're doing a great job raising your kids! :) It's not easy these days I know. I think Maria did a great job in raising Freddie, it's just he had so many problems & couldn't handle them. I'd read too where Freddie had smoked some pot in his parents home without his mom knowing & then reading where kids asked him to do drugs & he refused. Both those stories seemed to contradict themselves...
Pitooey 05-17-2002, 09:41 AM You know Cheryl now that I think about it. Both his parents were working and they both were not home in the daytime. Remember that he was cutting alot from school? That could be when he would smoke pot in the bedroom. Maybe with his 2 parents working at the same time and no one being home to supervise him, it was easier for him to dabble. It's easy for children to fall prey to demons outside the home. Don't get me wrong his parents did the best for him. Some children just don't listen.......... If anything.......... I learned a lesson from Freddie's demise..... :(
Cheryl Harrell 05-17-2002, 03:20 PM You are so right about him being alone when his folks worked. I still can't figure out why he'd try drugs when I read he refused to do them when other kids would offer them to him. Sounds like he's contradicting himself... It's so sad what happened to him...

I don't know, maybe the pressure.Or he could've saw it as some sort of soother taking him away from his problems temporarily.
I read somewhere that he resorted to shooting Heroin into the vains inbetween his toes when he could no longer find any vains of the upper portion of his body to shoot it in.I remember vaguely where I read this but,I'm guessing it's in his biography. :(
Cheryl Harrell 05-18-2002, 01:24 AM Oh wow, you just reminded me. I think I did read somewhere where he injected heroin in between his toes. I had forgot all about it until you mentioned it. Man...
Luckymama58 05-18-2002, 08:00 AM I hate to disagree with you all on this one, but whatever you have read....I have read the autopsy report AND the book written by the coroner on Freddie's autopsy and no where did they mention any interveneous drug use. Those guys are professionals and are paid to do a thorough job...reporting everything out of the ordinary. It is true he snorted coke and smoked weed, as well as the pills, but I think that was the extent of his drug use. That was enough, tho :( :crying:
Pitooey 05-18-2002, 12:58 PM I agree with you Luckymama. He was into cocaine & weed and the pills that the doctor perscribed for him. He abused the pills.
He was addicted to cocaine and he even stopped this while he was on the show.
Later on he was addicted to the pills
All this stuff about heroin and stuff is not true.
With all that I have read about Freddie all these many, many years that was not the problem with him.

No, what I meant was that he could've used it either during his teenage years or sometime before he became famous.Maybe not at the time he was using all of those other substances by the time he had reached young adulthood, but its possible that he could've at least tried it once or twice prior to the Cocaine and Quaaludes.

Cheryl Harrell 05-18-2002, 03:37 PM Hope no one thinks I think Freddie did heroin. I had always thought he didn't do it. Then I had read somewhere he had injected it between his toes. I had forgotten all about reading that about Freddie until someone mentioned it on here. I had always thought his problem was with the pills mainly. I wish magazines would print the facts & truth. So many different things written about him ya don't know what to believe. Like the injecting heroin between his toes, his smoking pot behind his moms back, the cocaine use. Then reading that kids used to offer him drugs & he turned them down. Everything is so contradicting... It is so confusing. I am so glad his mom put out her book so I could get to know the real Freddie instead of the comic who went nuts on pills & shot himself that the press makes him out to be. I think he was a sweet boy who got hooked on pills, had a broken heart from his going to be divorced & died way too soon. Bless his heart...

To be honest, I'm not exactly sure whether he did it or not but, reading somewhere that he did confused me.But it is definate that he did Quaaludes and Cocaine. :(

It wasn't my intention wasn't to start any false rumors about Freddie and I don't want to aggrivate anyone on here.I just remembered reading it from somewhere but I really can't remember where. :o
Pitooey 05-18-2002, 05:52 PM Sitcomsaretheway........... You didn't do anything wrong. I read that piece somewhere too but, I and others have followed Freddies career since he launched out of Carson. I never heard anything on that. That's all. The piece you had read... I did read and so did Cheryl but, that was the only time it was mentioned so I personally don't believe it.
All I heard about him prior to becoming famous was smoking pot and cocaine abuse.
Cheryl Harrell 05-19-2002, 02:22 AM Don't worry about it, you didn't do anything wrong. :) Some of us read that stuff & were just reporting what we'd read. So much stuff has been written it's hard to know what was truth or not & sadly Freddie is not here to let us know what was true or not. I wish someone would come out with a true account on him instead of this sensationalized stuff. Thank you Maria for writing your book & showing us the real Freddie how he really was...

That's all I heard he used also. Then I read that information surrounding Heroin from somewhere but I can't really remember where.I don't think it's from the biography because I looked through it last night and didn't see any information pertaining to him using that. The only thing I think he smoked besides pot were cigarettes and had a history with both.

No, it's okay.I just hate the fact that he used drugs period.I used to know a guy named Louis when I was little. He used come over to my grandmother's house alot because he was a close friend of the family.Soon, he stopped visiting and I never knew why.I just never, ever saw him again. Then years later,I had asked my mother his whereabouts and she told me that he committed suicide by throwing himself in front of an oncoming train in the mid-80's.He was a drug addict and till this day,I'm not sure if the drugs made him do it or if he had intentions of killing himself all along.I know he has nothing to do with Freddie but it's just the fact that they both were involved with drugs and had taken their own lives.Freddie's story just reminded me so much of Louis. :(
Cheryl Harrell 05-20-2002, 01:28 AM It's so sad to see someone like that get hooked on drugs & then kill themselves. I wish someone could've saved Freddie... :crying: :crying: :crying:
Luckymama58 05-21-2002, 06:56 AM I want to offer an apology.
I have been away enjoying the effects of Freddie still among us this weekend and I didn't have time to comment. I didn't mean to imply that sitcomsaretheway and Cheryll had not read what they did about the heroin. I bet they did read that. With all that has been printed about Freddie over the years, I am sure this was part of it. I have gotten a lot of lot of magazines on Freddie and I have discovered you can't always believe what you read. That is still true today. I know Freddie himself seemed so adamant about the fact that he did not use heroin, that he was scared of it. Cause he also supposedly told others he didn't do drugs either....sigh... it does make it hard to know what to believe. I guess I just want to go on believing he didn't do heroin. Lots of drug users will stay away from that one because it has a reputation for extreme danger. I just wish people would realize that ALL drugs are dangerous!
I hope sitcomsaretheway and Cheryll realize I meant no harm and I didn't want you both to feel bad about sharing what you did. This is an open forum and I enjoy everyone sharing info and feelings here. Please keep doing that! Like Cheryl said on another thread, it is nice that this is a friendly site!

Why are you apologizing? You didn't do anything wrong.:) I shouldn't have been so quick to jump to conclusions from reading about it. I honestly haven't read about him doing heroin anywhere else and it's possible that they could've gotten it mixed up with one of the drugs he WAS using. I've also read that he was actually afraid of the drug so therefore, I really don't think he went against his feelings toward it although he could've also changed them at some point. But then again, I haven't read about it anywhere else so I figure the chances of it being true are slim. I notice that the media hardly had anything positive to say or write about him(Freddie). Okay, they may have, but there seemed to have been more negative than positive. He was made out to be some kind of junkie who was cranky, in love with and full of himself. But it seems that those who have actually met him say different. I have never met him and he had already been deceased for about three and a half years by the time I was born. I still can't beileve how young he actually was because according to his pictures, he looked older. Especially when he had gotten thinner. I got to know of him back in 98' when I had mistakenly stumbled upon his obituary on findagrave.com while looking for someone's grave. I saw his picture(the headshot with the wavy hair and him smiling while standing next to a fence. He looked so beautiful!) and I thought to myself while dumb-founded, "Who is that guy?" :happyface
Whenever I read stories about him online, it's so saddening and just knowing how he passed away is enough to make you cry your eyes out.:crying:
Cheryl Harrell 05-21-2002, 03:04 PM Don't worry Luckymama, I know you didn't mean any harm & were just trying to clear things up. You're fine with me! :) I don't believe what I had read about that, I was just stating how after SitcomsAreTheWay had read that that I now recalled reading that too. I'm glad you cleared that up because there were so many rumors about him, you don't know what to believe. Thanks for being so nice! & Thanks to everyone else for being so nice too! It's nice to be on a site where people are so friendly & nice! :) I sure wish Arlo's offical message boards could be like that... :(

Laz77 05-21-2002, 04:00 PM That E true Hollywood story makes me so depressed and angry but at the same time I think its good because people will hear his name and see his face and realize the dangers of drugs.
No matter what drugs he took - it wasn't him. He knew it was wrong and bad for him but he would have done anything just to have company - somebody to talk to. Thats all he wanted - someone to understand him and love him for who he is. The drugs was to get away from all the people who didn't understand him, but also it was a way for him to "fit in". He had the type of personality that always took him on adventure - he wasn't afraid to take chances because he knew thats what life is all about.
Jealousy and Envy of other people played a huge role in his demise.
I'm so sorry Freddie - God Bless you.

He seemed so alone in the world although he had a certain amount people whom actually did love and respect him for who he was which was Frederick Karl Pruetzel. It must've hurt him deeply when he realized that alot of his so-called friends weren't really his friends and were just using him to get put on or were so vicious and jealous that they just shut him out of their lives.:(
I can't even imagine the hurt and pain he was suffering when he was still living and those who failed to understand his personal angony probably caused him to suffer even more.:(
-*Freddie,You are still loved and forever will be*
Cheryl Harrell 05-22-2002, 03:59 AM It's so sad how he seemed so alone & thought no one cared. His mom cared about him & fans did but I guess he didn't realize it. If only Kathy had cared enough to stay with him. :( It's so sad. You all would've been great friends for him. Laz is keeping his memory alive & I'm so glad... If only he knew we all cared...

I know, it's so sad.:( His story confirms the fact that money can't buy happiness. Like it had been stated in his biography, one day he was riding the subway and then the next, he was being brought to performances in limos. To make such a transition like that, it must've overwhelmed him so greatly that he really couldn't understand or adjust to it. :(
If only he DID realize it.:crying:
I'm not even going to discuss anything regarding Kathy because I remember the chaos that started on this board awhile back surrounding her(Remember?). It was a total mess on here and it really got out of hand.
Cheryl Harrell 05-23-2002, 08:20 AM LOL! The Kathy controversy was nothing to compared to how fussy the folks are on Arlo's website. LOL! Someone mentioned on here about people being fussy on the Steve Martin website. Wow, didn't know his site was like that! Hopefully folks on the fussy sites will learn to get together & have fun like we do here. :) Thanks Freddie for bringing us all together! :)
