View Full Version : Martha Doe Roberts (Amazon Season 5)
Todd Mueller 06-07-2017, 01:18 AM I'm disappointed they edited the hell out of the Martha Doe Roberts case on Amazon season 5. The most intriguing part was the ransom calls by the guy with a fake Asian accent. But all of that was cut out.
This makes no sense...

Fake Asian accent. Hmmmmm. Sounds exotic. And deranged.

That was actually an update to the case; and it is on Amazon Prime actually. It's called "Memphis Kidnap Progress Report" in Season 5 Episode 19.
biscuitgirl 06-07-2017, 09:36 AM Perhaps they thought it might be considered offensive?

I *really* hope you're wrong.

The lifetime segment I have made no mention of the accent either. Maybe the original airing only showed that?

Just realized what the other poster meant. That update on the case is in episode 19 of the same season on Amazon and you can still hear the actual phone call recording.
justins5256 06-07-2017, 03:07 PM I could be wrong, but I don't think this "progress report" with the fake Asian accent made it to Lifetime. Rather, they just showed the original Special Alert and the update about the arrest of the neighbor and the recovery of her body.

Thank you both, unsolved243 and drew4824!
Yes, that's what I meant. I really liked hearing the ransom call because it was so bizarre, and so obviously fake. It was among the strangest cases I ever remember on UM. I thought they edited that out, but I didn't realize that was part of an update.
Thanks for the info. I'll look for it later in Season 5!
For what it's worth "The FBI Files" featured this story and the episode is on the official Film Rise account on YT.
The FBI Files: Season 5 - Ep 13 "Fatal Friendship" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyXbEC9dEeA)
I remember the case very well, as it happened right outside my hometown (Memphis, TN). Such a sad demise, no one deserves that.

I'll have to check this out. Thanks!
Hops3098 06-08-2017, 03:46 PM I'm not trying to steer this thread OT, but I think this is the first Special Alert segment to make it to Amazon. I was afraid we would lose them all.
LooksLikeCRicci 06-08-2017, 04:41 PM I think it's a totally appropriate comment. (Like I'm not guilty of running the ship off-course from time to time...)
It's great to know we haven't lost the Special Alerts. Even though they scared the crap out of me. :D
