View Full Version : Pierre
bip05 06-06-2017, 10:59 PM I had never seen this segment before (from S5).
Some weird stuff. He woke up with amnesia and within 5 months he was already engaged?
Also, he demanded family photos and proof of his birth records and stuff right from the get go?
And finally he just remembered everything from his "entire life."
Also these photos lol:
DazzlerSparkler 06-06-2017, 11:40 PM Someone find him today lol. I'm curious
Also hey its Ruth Madoff
Guardian 06-07-2017, 12:58 AM I think this is one of the legit amnesia cases. Pierre indicated some very disturbing bits and pieces (he did not elaborate in the segment) in his fragmented memory. My guess is this is why he was so suspicious.
As far as the quick engagement, who knows? Some cases on UM have had folks married after just a few weeks. It's rare, and seems weird to me, but it happens.
LooksLikeCRicci 06-07-2017, 01:10 AM Those there are some craaaazy eyes! :)
justins5256 06-07-2017, 05:33 PM His was one of the few amnesia cases that was somewhat believable. It's difficult to say what happened obviously, but I always suspected some mental illness or a mental break.

May I ask why? My B.S. detector goes off every time I see an amnesia case. I have a really hard time believing any of them
Guardian 06-08-2017, 01:03 AM While I too am skeptical of many amnesia cases, I find it odd that people are always SO skeptical of amnesia. It seems like it is believed in less than ghosts or UFOs. Amnesia does exist, and while rare it is a condition that can be caused by several different factors such as head trauma, psychological stress, mental illness and other health issues. Again, I agree it is rare, but it is a recognized medical condition.
But as I said before in my earlier post, I think this particular case is likely legit. As to what caused it, my guess would be head trauma based on things said in the interview. Mental illness is always a possibility, but even so, I think the amnesia is real here.

Good points. While amnesia does happen, long term amnesia is pretty rate (unless there is some other issue).
The best example is the UM story on the housewife (I forgot her name) who had a stroke which impaired her brain function. She had long-term memory loss but still knew who she was. She was in a sense frozen in the past.
To just wake up and not know who you are, for a long time, is rare. I've seen people with head injuries have temporary amnesia but it usually comes back in hours to days. Often times they have no memory of the time just before and just after the trauma.
I do think Pierre was being legit. I'd love to know what led up to him being found on the side of the road.

I wonder if he was into drugs/alcohol.

Offhand, I was going to say that it just seemed like he didn't have any motivation for coming forward with these claims. He wasn't on the run from the law ala "Tyler" aka Arthur Paul Beale and that other guy whose name escapes me, but he was wanted for embezzlement.
On the the other hand, there is so much variation in humor behavior and motivations, so who really knows? Also, as we all know, UM leaves out tons of details in their presentations.
I'll just say that from what was presented on the segment, it didn't look like he had any reason for fabricating the amnesia claims, and you can't say that about others.

I think because it is so rare. Malden said of the Kyra Cook case that it afflicts one in a million people. Granted, I don't know if that is an actual statistic. Regardless, I think the odds are similar to those of getting struck by lighting or winning the lottery.

Man, that would annoy the crap out of me. Odds are same between winning the lottery and getting amnesia and you get amnesia?
Yeah. That WOULD happen to me.
TheCars1986 06-08-2017, 12:41 PM I've always thought he was legit. He didn't use a fake name, and one of the composites that was drawn actually did turn out to be his former boss. Why would you do that if you truly wanted to disappear and not be found?
RaidenKhan 06-08-2017, 12:57 PM Yeah, it's funny to go back and watch these and see the inexplicable obsession with amnesia from that time period. It's right up there with the satanic panic, etc.
Cheers,
Matt

One reason: getting on tv.
I realize Amnesia is a real, if rare condition. I just tend to be more skeptical of the amnesiacs I see on tv. This guy seemed a bit of a showboat.
I knew people in L.A. who sacrificed life savings, relationships, healthcare, etc. just for a chance for a bit part on a t.v. show that got them much less attention than this guy got. After seeing Steve-O on the show Jackass I was convinced there are people who will do irreversible damage to themselves for a little air time.
I realize Pierre didn't know he'd get on UM at the beginning. But he surely he knew he was drawing more attention to himself the more he told his story
