How do you feel about some classic TV networks crunching the credits at the end of a show?

View Full Version : I don't think that is has been discussed here... scotchnh2o 05-09-2017, 10:29 PM How do you feel about some classic TV networks crunching the credits at the end of a show? PhoenixAcres 05-09-2017, 10:37 PM I frown upon it. A TV episode is the entire package: opening titles, main content, and closing titles. Some networks think the latter is expendable but in reality it's necessary to close out the show and not be thrust into a different show following the last scene. Very poor network decision, but I can see their motivations why. Which is why I give even more credit to networks like MeTV which DON'T give in to pressure. Nordy 05-09-2017, 10:39 PM I'm ok with it. As long as nothing interferes with the opening credits. That's what I love. Bonniegirl 05-09-2017, 10:47 PM I'm ok with it. As long as nothing interferes with the opening credits. That's what I love. Yeah, me too. As long as the opening of the show isn't tampered with, I'm good ! ;) Zoneboy 05-09-2017, 11:58 PM The following turns me off so much that I refuse to watch any classic channel that is guilty of any of it. Crunched credits Voiceovers during credits Pop-ups during the show, after commercials or during credits to remind me what I'm watching or what's coming on next. On-screen logos. (I don't need to be constantly reminded of what channel I'm watching). treky 05-10-2017, 12:33 AM I frown upon it. Very poor network decision, but I can see their motivations why. Which is why I give even more credit to networks like MeTV which DON'T give in to pressure.:yeahthat I understand why they do it, according to Antenna TV it's because the proliferation of all these "retro-channels" has caused the price of these old programs to go higher and higher so stations have to do SOMETHING to justify the cost. That also explains why they have so many commercials. I still hate it though. and not only ME TV but also H & I doesn't do it. bmasters9 05-10-2017, 06:16 AM Pop-ups during the show, after commercials or during credits to remind me what I'm watching or what's coming on next. Seconded, especially if you were already reminded umpteen times during a commercial break that "so-and-so show is coming next on X channel!" BigManMike 05-10-2017, 07:07 AM It's been discussed here many times. That was exactly why I gradually stopped watching Antenna TV two years ago. They started a split screen crunch and only did it on a few shows at first but gradually expanded it to all the others. Then in prime time they started crunching to show a stupid promo which is totally unnecessary. I don't mind crunching as much if the music is not muted and can be heard but that is not the case with Antenna so I don't watch that channel. I don't mind voiceovers as long as the volume of the music is louder but I don't like it when the voiceover is louder then the music. I'm so glad Me, Laff, and Bounce don't crunch credits. Decades sometimes crunches them on weekdays but thankfully the music is played at full volume with no voice overs or video promos. Decades binge marathons are crunch-free which is perfect for me. The only cable channels that don't crunch seem to be FamilyNet and Fuse. Most others do so I will not watch them. BigManMike 05-10-2017, 07:09 AM Seconded, especially if you were already reminded umpteen times during a commercial break that "so-and-so show is coming next on X channel!" I don't like that Laff and Bounce display huge banners during the show advertising a movie or some stupid drama called Saints and Sinners. Still, it hasn't turned me off of watching those channels and it's a minor thing compared to that atrocious credit crunch on Antenna TV. stevea 05-10-2017, 10:23 AM Then in prime time they started crunching to show a stupid promo which is totally unnecessary. The Starz "crunch" isn't bad...a small blurb at the bottom, which doesn't interfere with the theme. I agree about Antenna's promos...they are stupid...I think their thing is, we MUST interrupt. These types of crunches don't increase their ad time. I'm hoping Sinclair revamps Tribune's policy...I liked Antenna the way it was, the first few years. treky 05-11-2017, 12:20 AM It's been discussed here many times. (I don't need to be constantly reminded of what channel I'm watching). That's why even though I come here to talk about the old shows, I rarely watch them on TV anymore. I turn off any station that has popups. If TV stations claim popups aren't distracting, let then try it during commercials and see how the advertisers like it. Schmoopie 05-14-2017, 03:26 AM I hate it when any station does that. I agree that it's good if they don't do that in the beginning, because the opening credits are what people remember, but I think it's completely insane that so many stations are doing this just to save a few seconds. LUNCH 05-28-2017, 02:34 PM I don't like it.It's almost as bad as when they cut out parts of the show. What even makes these things more ridiculous especially when it comes to cable channels is they are cutting out parts of shows that originally aired on free TV,the big networks. LUNCH 05-28-2017, 02:50 PM If TV stations claim popups aren't distracting, let then try it during commercials and see how the advertisers like it. Exactly. There are a couple of exceptions but basically American TV channels have become just one big commercial. stevea 05-28-2017, 03:45 PM Exactly. There are a couple of exceptions but basically American TV channels have become just one big commercial. And to top it off, the commercials are crap, too. Low class attorneys, cheap auto insurance, medicare scams, and any other kind of scum...along with the horrible credit crunches, welcome to Antenna TV. MA 05-28-2017, 05:10 PM How about networks speeding up shows? I heard that LAFF is an example. MA 05-28-2017, 05:12 PM And to top it off, the commercials are crap, too. I heard that LAFF is an example. Speeding up isn't a huge deal to me as long as it's done intelligently and sparingly. It's cruddy channels like LOGO that edit out over 6 MINUTES of an episode out of each show they have! Absurd. Next time I get cable, I will be paid... Once you learn to be frugal you'll be spending less money on DVDs than it costs in my area. I don't see myself returning to cable, in the 10 1/2 years I've amassed a library of TV shows, Movies, Serials and Documentaries to last me for the rest of my life! :D PhoenixAcres 05-28-2017, 09:28 PM How about networks speeding up shows? I heard that LAFF is an example. A few years back MeTV used to speed up their shows like crazy. It was like watching in fast motion in some scenes. They probably still do it but not as noticeably. They must have accommodated by cutting out scenes. ohno: Antenna TV I'm pretty sure speeds up the opening title sequences of their shows. I'm not sure about during the show though. I think like Svenfan said even speeding up is better than completely removing scenes because at least you know what happened in those scenes. stevea 05-29-2017, 12:18 AM Yes, the speeding up used to be very noticeable on MeTV. I think they sometimes do it on show openers still, because it's noticeable when they then sometimes play it at regular speed. Regulus 05-29-2017, 08:23 AM Why do networks do that? I don't understand. Speeding up the show and editing scenes are done for one thing only, so they can cram in  MORE ::mad: commercials. :angryfire Dr. Thong 05-29-2017, 08:51 AM It's been discussed here many times. That has the ring of a motto. You are right, Regulus. I had a fair DVD library when I decided that cable was not worth the sawdust out of Pinnochio. $75 -To- $80 per month for cable can buy a lot of DVDs. Most of the DVDs that I do not have, are not available, like Beverly Hillbillies season 5, Petticoat Junction season 4. I wish these companies would get on the stick: I would like to see those episodes before I fall off the twig. Regulus 05-30-2017, 07:51 AM Have you ever posted a message on this board's "Trading Post"? I've acquired many shows from this thread. True, these are mostly "Homemade DVDs, but it's better than nothing at all. ;) Mace Dolex 05-30-2017, 12:14 PM On-screen logos. (I don't need to be constantly reminded of what channel I'm watching). Yeah that was an annoyance especially for me as I used to record with my VCR TV programs. ABC1 05-30-2017, 08:23 PM I absolutely hate credits being crunched. It ruins the show in a way. The end credits are getting so small its impossible to read them on some networks. I give FXX a lot of credit for not squashing the Simpsons credits... treky 05-31-2017, 12:10 AM H & I, ME TV and Decades don't crunch them. bgva 11-29-2017, 06:25 PM Bugs don't bother me. With so many channels out there now, it makes sense, although TVs nowadays tell you what channel you're watching, along with info on the episode. So, bugs aren't as necessary, but I get why they exist. Can't stand the pop-ups...give viewers a little credit, they don't need to be reminded a million times that a certain show airs. Some networks are really obnoxious with the popups (TBS is or was very guilty of this), to the point of mocking the fact that viewers hate the ads. Not a fan of the credit squeezes at all, although I don't mind the way ThisTV does by simply shrinking the screen, but allowing the music to play while promoting another show. For example, "MODERN FAMILY, TUESDAY at 9:00" is displayed on a small banner at the bottom of the screen. Antenna TV's method annoys me. Also not a fan of the generic credits that now display at the bottom as the final scene plays out. GetTV seems to do this now. |
