I've e-mailed a message to the North Pole asking the man who runs things there asking him to deliver me one of these sets in :santa2: December. :tree:

Wow that is quite an announcement, Laugh In complete series, verrrrry interesting.

At 250 bucks the price tag is a little steep, but I guess that's to be expected because they're releasing a lot of material here. And the funny thing is, I didn't know Laugh In ran for 6 seasons and 140 episodes, I thought it ran for only 3 seasons and about 70 episodes. I must be confusing it with the Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour.

I don't know yet if I'll want to buy this, I'll think about it, I'll probably wait awhile and see if the price comes down. Maybe one of the retro TV stations will start airing the episodes too. Dean Martin's variety show is another good one, Time Life has made some of those shows available on DVD but they are expensive also.

When I think of shows I'd like Time-Life to come in and save by releasing on DVD in a complete series box set (Happy Days unedited, My Three Sons unedited, Chico and the Man), Laugh-In isn't one of them. However, I will definitely buy this collection. It takes me back to my childhood... when I used to watch it on Nick at Nite, lol. I wasn't alive during its original run. I'll pretty much buy any show that used to air on Nick at Nite from the '80s to '00. Beyond that, it's pick and choose.

Correction, I will be getting this set in JANUARY. My children's Christmas charity program (What's that? you are a visitor from out of town? That's no excuse, grab a toy and get in line!) comes first. :candle:

I'm not sure if I get the decades channel, I'll have to check my cable listings and see if the channel is included.

One important thing to consider about this forthcoming Laugh In DVD release is if all the shows are going to be uncut. I don't recall if Laugh In has musical performances, but if it does there's a chance the music segments will be cut from the DVD's. Time Life did this with the Dean Martin shows, music segments are cut, they did release a few uncut shows but not many.

Anyhow, I'm not going to buy this Laugh In DVD set right away, I'm going to read reviews about the set first and wait until the price comes down. When Time Life first released the Get Smart complete series, they wanted $200 for it but now they've cut the price in half and it's now available for $100.

That's another reason I'm going to wait until at least January before I purchase this set. When the holiday season ends, There's a good chance the price will go down. It may very well come down on Cyber Monday as well.

PS If it is listed as a "Door Buster" on Thanksgiving Day FUGGADABOUDIT! I refuse to kick my observance of this holiday aside to get something at a discount. :angryfire

Laugh In was the forerunner to Saturday Night Live. SNL basically picked up where Laugh In left off.

If I was a big fan of Laugh In, I'd probably be inclined to buy the DVD set sooner rather than later. But I'm just a casual fan and only mildly curious to see the shows again, so I'm going to get further information first and wait a while before deciding if I want the DVD set.

What will probably be a dealbreaker for me is if the shows are cut/edited because of music. A few cuts/edits probably wouldn't bother me too much, but if several shows are cut/edited then it's likely I won't purchase the set.

There are some like the three you mentioned I'd rather see. Also, I'd also pick Murphy Brown as a big nice complete series set from Time-Life. I'd love to see Murphy Brown first and foremost, and (if Shout! Factory won't step up and save it) maybe they'll release St. Elsewhere too! One can only hope!

That's cool. Though I'd rather rent than own it, having seen a handful of episodes as an adult the show I just don't find rewatchable, wouldn't mind seeing it again, but not something I would pull off the shelf to revisit.

I would definitely buy a complete series box set of Murphy Brown. I probably would not buy St. Elsewhere, simply because I'm not a fan of hospital dramas. I still would like it to be released for the fans though.

If Deep Discount DVD offers this set I'll probably end up ordering it from them because they usually have great deals on DVD's with marked down prices.

Deep Discount currently has the Get Smart complete series for $70, Time Life wants $100 so Deep Discount is obviously the place to go shopping.

If Time Life was able to do like their Wonder Years set and get 97% of the music I would feel obligated to buy Murphy Brown in support. I have the Encore classic episodes from the trading post here though and am very satisfied with them. St. Elsewhere seems like a good choice for Time Life given the prestige of that show and the fact that they have already released China Beach.

I have never seen Laugh-in, only that 30th anniversary special that aired on NBC in 94. The library in my complex had it on one of their many home made vhs tapes you could check out before they phased them out for dvds. I think I will buy this mostly blind and hope I like it.

I watched it as a kid and loved it but it's hard to think of a show more dated than this. Laugh In was a show that lived in and belonged in the 60's. It was the hottest show on TV for 2 or 3 years and then fell back into obscurity. The only sketches I'd really like to see again are Ruth Buzzi and Arte Johnson.

I have the Encore episodes too of "Murphy Brown", but if a complete series set of it were released by Time-Life and it had 97% or more of the original music included, I would definitely buy it no matter the price. I'd also buy a complete series of "St. Elsewhere" day one. One of my most wanted tv shows on dvd. I also agree about Happy Days unedited, My Three Sons unedited and Chico and the Man. Those would all be great as well.

As for this one, I'll probably find myself buying the individual seasons as they are released instead of getting the $250 set. Just not that much of a fan to get this, but like I said I'll probably just end up getting the individual seasons. Sounds like a good show!

I would as well. I don't think Murphy is as in demand as a Wonder Years or WKRP set so I'm not expecting it to happen, but I would support it for sure. St. Elsewhere makes perfect sense given that they've done China Beach and Elsewhere is more popular/iconic.

I agree the show is dated but it rates fairly high in nostalgia value and has an excellent cast of characters. I'm not in a big hurry to purchase the DVD set, I'll wait for a reduction in price, about $150 is the most I'll want to pay, $250 is too expensive.

The box set contains bloopers. I'd like to know how many minutes of these there are.

Time Life doesn't have a very good track record. Look how they screwed up the second season of Mama's Family. They hosed up the Mama running for mayor totally, due to not licensing the music "Happy Days are Here Again" (Mama's version, Harper Days..., was a long segment of two episodes). Geez, they couldn't even license a 5 second snippet of Willie Nelson's "On The Road Again."

As far as I know, the Laugh In shows are uncut on the DVD's, so maybe Time Life was able to clear everything. I'm not in a hurry to purchase this, I'm waiting to see if the price comes down, but it's definitely on my "plan to buy" list along with the just announced Green Acres complete series.

retroTVfan4ever,

The shows are uncut on the DVD's. There are some music videos during the first season by Strawberry Alarm Clock, The First Edition (with Kenny Rogers), The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and The Bee Gees, so Time Life and Proven Entertainment were able to clear the music rights there. Three Dog Night also perform during the fifth season.

I'm buying the Laugh-In seasons one at a time, I have seasons 1 and 2, and plan to buy season 3 in March after it's released. Watching these shows now, what I like best is the nostalgia factor, and also enjoy seeing the appearances of different guest stars, it's fun revisiting the groovy era of the late 1960's/early 1970's. The Laugh-In shows go along at a frantic pace, the jokes and skits fly by quickly, most are silly but some are funny. The cast of the show also does occasional song and dance routines, I usually enjoy those. Watching Laugh-In is a fun trip back to a groovy time. Sock it to me!

Judy Carne is my favorite of the Laugh-In regulars. She's so adorable and cute :eyes:, I like her better than Goldie Hawn. Jo Anne Worley isn't bad looking either. I hadn't paid much attention to her before, but now I think she's attractive in her own womanly way ;) :D .

The first three seasons of Laugh-In are the best ones. In season 4 it started slipping a little, several cast changes were partly the reason. Seasons 5 and 6 the show was still hanging on but no longer resembled what it was when it first started.

Yay, today in the mail I received the season 3 DVD of Laugh-In, I'll watch some episodes later.

Although if I recall, the sock it to me bit was mostly played out by the 3rd season and they were moving on to other gags.

Watching some season 3 episodes on the DVD's, and I notice that Judy Carne is surely missed. Of the 26 episodes this season, she appears in only 17 of them, and is absent completely in the other 9. And with the episodes she's in, she's barely there and not given much to do. I don't know the whole story about her departure from the show, from what I understand she left after the 2nd season, but she must have agreed to do some 3rd season bits because she is there, even though it's infrequent. It's too bad that being on Laugh-In didn't work out for Judy Carne, she's my favorite of the early season regular cast members. After the 3rd season, more cast changes were coming as Goldie Hawn and Jo Anne Worley would leave the series too :(.

The shows look fine to me, I don't notice any obvious problems with the video. I'm not fussy about technical stuff like the frame rate unless there is an obvious problem, and I don't see any obvious problems here.

What interests me most is to have the uncut shows. Time Life seems to have come through and the shows are presented uncut, at least I'm not aware of any edits.

I plan to get season 4 next month when it comes out, after that I might stop because I'm not sure if I want seasons 5 and 6. The show was running out of gas the last two seasons, by season 6 it was running on fumes. Season 5 does have the reunion show where the original cast members return, but that's only 1 episode out of 24.

Well I decided I might as well have the whole series so I went ahead and bought season 5 and plan to order season 6 in September when it comes out.

Having said that, the first three seasons are better than the last three seasons, with season 2 being the peak of the show when it was at it's best. In season 3, the wheels already started falling off the cart a little bit.

I watch these Laugh In DVD's mostly for the nostalgia value, it's fun revisiting the era and the show and watch a group of people get together for 50 minutes and act silly. And that's the thing about Laugh In, most of it is silly, I laugh at a few things but the fun aspect is mainly why I watch these. The song and dance numbers that the cast sometimes performs are usually enjoyable too.

Well I now have all 6 seasons of Laugh In on DVD, I received season 6 in the mail about a week ago. I've watched some season 6 shows and I was pleasantly surprised, from what I've seen so far season 6 seems to be better than seasons 4 and 5. I still think the first three seasons are the best, but in season 6 the series has a new found energy that was lacking in seasons 4 and 5, and also in the 6th season the show definitely takes on a 70's vibe since this season is from 1972-73. So I would say that Laugh In went out on a good note with season 6, an improved season compared to seasons 4 and 5.
