"Friends is a really good show. It is VERY funny, but I know quite a few people who say they hate the show with all their might! but find the show funny. Why does everybody WANT to hate "Friends"? It's as funny as A LOT of shows!

I just don't find it appealing. It just isn't very funny. The characters seem very cardboardy to me. But that's just IMO.

Yes, there has always been an anti "Friends" vibe on this website.
I have always enjoyed the show, perhaps some of the younger members don't relate to the generation depicted on the show.

I have tried to watch the show 3 times, and can just not get into it. It is boring and the gags are either unfunny or gross.

Also, it seems to have an idenity crisis. It is almost too dramatic at times to be considered a situation comedy.

I stand by my comment that Frasier is the only CURRENT NBC sitcom that is good.

I agree. And I'm not just singling "Friends" out, but it's all the sitcoms today and the way they had gotten since the mid to late 90's. They just seem to have no quality or substance whatsoever and seem to be filled with nothing but vulgarity. The only show I can really tolerate is Everybody Loves Raymond. The others are just impossible to watch, IMO. Thank goodness I still have Nick at Nite, TV Land, Lifetime, and other networks that air re-runs of the quality shows that once existed.

You would have to be pretty prudent to think that the jokes on there are THAT gross, cuz they really arent.

I find "Friends" stupid and unwatchable, as well as offensive. Not to mention OVERRATED!!!

Allow me to paraphrase the Parents Television Council (Http://www.parentstv.org/) a highly recommended site for finding the dregs of TV by the way--about Friends:

"Friends is one of the raciest sitcoms in prime time, and its early evening timeslot makes it that much more objectionable.. All six regulars have been sexually active, and dialogue has contained vulgar language and explicitly sexual content; topics like condom use, and the erotic use of handcuffs have served as joke fodder. The show also frequently uses off-color words."

I wouldn't post the worst here, but needless to say, Friends is not Family-Friendly. It's TV PG (No Underwarnings) is decieving.

Doesn't this topic belong in the "Friends" board?

I think it's all a matter of personal taste. A lot of people out there seem to really enjoy watching Friends and I respect that. Personally, I have watched it quite a few times and I just do not care for it at all. Everybody has different tastes. I think Wings is a very funny show. I know some people totally disagree and I'm fine with that. Wouldn't these message boards be a boring place if we all watched the same shows?

I don't understand why people seem to get so worked up over another person's opinion of a TV show. There are a lot more things in this world to worry about than what people like to watch on TV.

Yea they really aren't. Anyone see the ep where Chandeler doesn't want to use bath oils and beads and all that but Monica gives him a boat so he can feel more manly? I laughed out loud at that! Then Ross is like, "Ooh, a boat!" and then notices why it's there! ROTFLMAO! Sorry Friends moment.

I don't fnd the time to watch it, but when I do, it's okay with me! :D

Well, I actually like Friends.

However....

It was good up until season six. That's when everything went downhill for me. That is when the show stopped being original and enjoyable.

The whole thing with Joey's roommate Janine was a real turn off (plus, I think that Ellie is a dog who can't act to save her life) and I barely laughed in any of the episodes.

Season 7 was just horrible. There were a FEW good episodes, but most of them were boring and unfunny.

I haven't watched season eight at all, so I can't comment on that.

The best seasons were, IMHO, Seasons 1, 2 and 3. Season 4 was good, season 5 was resonable, but after that it just got stale. I don't watch Friends on tv anymore, just my old videos of the early seasons.

I really dislike this show in a big way.The charactors are my age but they dont act, look or talk like anyone I've evr met. From day one I just couldnt relate to these people. And I find the writing mediocre at best...which you'd never know by the annoying soundtrack roaring at every line!I also find Ross, and Phoebe incrediblly ANNOYING>If they were real people I would beat on them. Then comes Chandler in the most annoying catagory followed by Monica and Joey in a tie.I guess Rachel is the least annoying of the bunch...although her Ross harping does grate on ones nerves,
A lot of people say "gee, for someone who hates the show you seem to know alot about it.Well, its a favorite of my mother and sister...so I've been FORCED to sit through my share!!!!!

I like Friends. To me, it's well written and the cast has unmatchable chemistry. This season though has not been so great. I don't know how they're going to keep the show watchable during the 9th season.

I can relate to this subject. I use to really hate this show but now I love it and it is actually funny. But you have to realize their are tons of shows people love to hate 2 I can think of are Roseanne and Seinfeld both shows I love both shows have been number one but people hate those too. But not everyone can like all shows.

Even though some of the "off color" humor gets old and bothers my possibly overlysensitive sense of taste, the show is mostly 'laugh out loud' funny. Phoebe has great expressive comic timing for one. I did find the Selleck to Monica matchup to be revolting though.

Mamamiasweetpeaches, you should tell your mother and sister to stop tying you to the TV chair when "Friends" is on. That's not nice of them to do that to you. lol

Friends is TV-14 most of the time. Its not a family show I agree. I think its funny just because it doesn't have proper taste I still think its a good sitcom.

Personally, I'm tired of those parent's rights groups who seem to think that TV should be 100% family-friendly. I am an adult who has no children right now and I should be able to sit down at 8 PM (EST) and watch whatever the heck I want. I'd rather watch Friends and Will & Grace (2 shows I'm not crazy about) than Touched by an Angel, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, and all the other sappy, sugary, family-friendly shows that are out there.

If parents don't want their children to watch shows like Friends, then they can do something very simple called picking up the remote control and changing the channel, or better yet, turn off the TV altogether and have the kids read a book or play a game or something. TV should not be used as a baby-sitter.

I'm sorry if I went off-topic here, but I needed to rant a little bit. I'm just tired of these parent groups who seem to think they can control what the general public watches on TV.

Well, I'll be honest, I never got into the whole "Friends" craze. I don't think the show is bad, but I don't see why everyone says it's so good. I respect the show, however. I mean, it's been so successful and the creators of "Friends" created "Veronica's Closet," so I can't absolutely HATE it. :happyface :happyface :happyface

What are you 80? The Sitcoms of the 90's were some of the best sitcoms ever. I enjoy them so much and have loved them if you want to talk about bad sitcoms you should look at the sitcoms of the 60's that was the worst decade of sitcoms, with stupid shows like Andy Griffith, Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie and many more. The 70's really started the shows of the 90's and today with adding vulgar stuff to it one such show is threes company. So get with it and live in the present.

Well I have to disagree about that. In my opinion shows started to get mindless and stupid in the 90s. Yeah I know 60s shows like Bewitched or I Dream of Jeannie did seem a little stupid and mindless at times too but at least they were creative and alot more entertaining. Oh and by the way I'm not 80 I'm 13.

As for friends well I'll list the three main reasons why I don't like it:

Its boring -All they ever seem to be doing is talking about sex or just sit there but then what do I know I have only seen two episodes. Well thats all I ever bothered to see. I recently tried to watch another episode...I fell asleep.

Funny? -I really don't see what is funny about the "jokes" and they do seem gross to me and Its not that I don't understand them I just don't know whats supposed to be funny about it.

Characters -Usually when I don't like a show its because of BAD characters. Friends is one of them. Half the character seem mean and selfish then the other half who could possbly be likable become annoying after ten minutes.

I think people don't like Friends because they act silly a lot times, and talk about sex a little TOO much. Which shows why shows like Seinfeld and Frasier are much more inteligently written, they don't have to rely on sex for humor. Sure they mention it every once and a while, but it's not the main topic of every friggin' episode. And they DEFINITELY don't act their ages. Some times they have a little too much sarcasm...and repetitive phrases like "Oh my gawd" or "Did I SAY I was going to do that??" But never the less I love the show. And please don't tell me Ross and Rachel will get back together next season. Their fights are funny, but when they get all lovey dovey it's nauseating.

Don't get me wrong,it's my favorite show EVER! But did anyone else notice that none of the can act?
