I think this original version of the Squares is great. I was born in 1980, so I completely missed this version when it was on. The first version I ever saw was the John Davidson revival from 1986-89.
One reason why I like this version is because during the time the show was on, there were more things they couldn't say on TV. Yesterday, on the 2:30 p.m. episode, Peter Marshall asked Paul Lynde a question. The question was about this story where a man walks into a dark room and encounters another man and what he did to the other man. Now, everyone knows what he might have been thinking. But he just sits and pauses, then gives a real answer, which was wrong. The real answer was that the man pushed the other man down a flight of stairs.
I like the current version. Tom Bergeron is an excellent host and the show is still very entertaining. But it can get a little bit raunchy for a show that airs during the day in many places. I think it'll be interesting to see what happens with current HS next year when Whoopi, Bruce, and Caroline are out of the squares and Henry "The Fonz" Winkler takes over as executive producer.
