I don't believe these people. I go to Dollar Tree to shop sometimes, and for the longest time you had to swipe your debit card to pay, when paying that way. It was fast and no worries. But now that the chip card, that helps protect you more from identity theft, is mandatory, they are complaining that it takes too much time to use. Literally 4 times, and 4 different employees complained to me that they hate it. I could care less what they think. If it gives me more protection against Identity theft, then I am good with it. I have to stand in line behind people who cash in their coupons and other stuff that takes time, and the cashiers seem to have no problem with that, why should they have an issue with the chip card? Are these employees just plain lazy?

Average time for a swiped card at Dollar Tree, with password input, money back option and confirming the price is the right one, is about 25 to 30 seconds. With the Chip Card, it's about 50, not that much longer. I bet if they suffered with Identity theft, they'd change their minds about it.

When problems arise like that I pay cash.

I have no problem with the chip cards. If stores are citing time as a reason to hate them that strikes me as illogical and maybe they have another reason. The total amount of time you spend at the card reader is practically the same either way. At least around here.

It definitely does take more time to complete the transaction using the chip reader, but I don't really mind it.

OH Nuts!

But also more protection for them I believe. I have a protection service anyways that alerts me to any suspicious activity. I haven't heard any merchants complaining - maybe the processing goes faster or smoother in NYC.

At least here in Indianapolis, the fastest chip reader I have seen is at Walgreens. The worst is at a regional lunch chain, Penn Station. Requires signature with even a small, under $10 credit transaction. At most other locations, transactions work pretty well; even debit transactions aren't bad.
