What I mean is what actors can you name had started to "feel their hype" and demand more money, try to get creative freedom or just became a pain to work with.

IIRC, Jan-Michael Vincent became like this on Airwolf in the 1985-86 season (third one, and last of the CBS seasons).

John Amos who played James Evans,
Sr. was kicked off Good Times for this,
although it wasn't about money.

Can this apply to movies too? if so then Crispin Glover was replaced as George McFly in the Back To The Future parts 2 and 3 films when he asked for more money.

The ironic thing is that none of the celebs we've listed found much success in film after TV. Somers had that terrible "Nothing Personal" movie, then pretty much nothing. Caruso had...well, not much. Farrah had middling success but certainly nothing blockbuster.

Travolta is the one example I can think of where the "Hollywood" gambit really worked.

Will Smith had a big head, had Aunt Viv fired and went onto global stardom.

His career has hit some bumps lately which probably humbled him to some degree.

He and his wife Jada can be kind of annoying to tell you the truth.

Nothing Personal was so terrible, I caught it one time on TV and couldn't believe how horribly written, acted and produced it was.

Just embarrassing. She STILL asked for that unreasonable raise despite how badly that "movie" flopped.

BTW, she still hasn't sent me the ring I ordered from her on Christmas. I did get the bracelet and her biography though. I digress. :D

LOL. Somers did rebound with her Vegas act and herThighmaster and other commercials. Plus there was "Step by Step" and "She's the Sheriff". But overall, she would have been a lot better off sticking with the show, I think. Heck, it only lasted about three more years after she left; it wasn't like it was delaying any other opportunities that much, and I think the public might have been a little more accepting of attempt to seque into other venues.

But what's past is past. She made up with her co-stars, from what I've read, and she really strikes me as a pretty decent person.

What did Suzanne Somers want? I thought she just wanted equal pay with John Ritter, but reading here makes me see there was more to it.

Well, that clears things up. Not as much as Ritter, as much as Alan Alda and Carroll O'Connor! The nerve!

Well, you know I love my Suzy.

She like most of us has her good sides and her bad sides. I think when you hold up tapings of your TV show repeatedly and make unreasonable demands you can't expect your costars to cheer you on and say, "Go Girl!!" But on the other hand I think maybe they were a little too harsh with her, the producers especially making her film her final scenes on a separate sound stage and act into a dead telephone.

I do think she fibs a lot and props herself up to make her look like some kind of a martyr but on the other hand she has many loyal life long friends like Barry Manilow who have steadfastly stood by her so how bad could she be really?

All the same, I am still waiting for her pearl ring to come into the mail. I had an online coupon and got it fairly cheap but still...why isn't the mailman knocking on my door with it? I have been waiting for over a month!

Does the ring look cheap? LOL. I was depressed that night when I ordered it so maybe I should have saved my money.

Nice thoughts.

I'm a little out of it, I guess. Did she sell rings on QVC or something?

Also, Alda and O'Connor were acting veterans and had major control over their much longer running shows and were the STARS of those shows.

Suzanne thought she had the power of say a Mary Tyler Moore when she was just a newbie actress who was billed under John Ritter and Joyce DeWitt.

Oh yes. Also HSN and Shop NBC at various times.

I ordered from her website as a curiosity when I was depressed over the holidays. Her agate bracelet was actually pretty nice as it turns out.

When Kirk Cameron found religion and had Julie McCullough (pretty sure that was her name) fired as his on-screen girlfriend because she posed for Playboy. And according to Alan Thicke, became unbearable on set as he tried to force his religious views on everyone.

Roseanne Barr was notorious for being a pain on set, fighting with writers and producers and shoving husband Tom Arnold down everyone's throats.

The publicity just went to her head. She was a major reason why TC was successful and was the biggest media star of that show but in reality the star was John Ritter. And after the Farrah problems ABC wanted to make an example of her. She went about it the wrong way. If all three would have done it together than maybe she may have been able to get somewhere but she was left alone.

Travolta is the one example I can think of where the "Hollywood" gambit really worked.

Even though Travolta had a hot movie career going, he agreed to appear in a handful of episodes during season four.

He could have just blown Kotter off, but he obviously felt some loyalty to the show.

Ultimately, Travolta's absence from most of the episodes was part of what led to the show being cancelled.

Richard Castellano, who played Clemenza in The Godfather, seems to have held out from agreeing to be in Godfather 2 because he wanted extensive control over the script, as well as various movie perks. There are heartbreaking letters where Francis Ford Copolla is trying to explain to him that with the ensemble cast, anything he gives to one he has to give to everyone, and as writer-director-producer he can't just turn over control of the script.

Castellano was very arrogant to demand script control. He was actor in a supporting role. A very strong supporting role, but a supporting one nevertheless.

Even Al Pacino, the star of GF2, didn't make those kind of demands.

Castellano's demands were bad for Clemenza, but yielded a great dividend -- the character of Frankie Pentangeli, played by the gravel voiced Michael V. Gazzo.

Pentangeli was a replacement for Clemenza and even wore an armband to commemmorate the loss of Clemenza, who had been, ahem, killed.
