View Full Version : I felt bad for Beaver's friend Larry
Wawwie 12-05-2016, 10:35 PM I felt bad for Beaver's friend Larry
It seems like Larry's father was always beating him. The father never hit the sister, just Larry. And in today's episode, he beat Larry about the row boat, and even after the police officer told him that it was not Larry who stole the boat, that mean old dad still didn't apologize. Instead, he told Larry that "it was a lesson for next time." What a dick. Child Protective Services should have thrown his ass in jail.
Poor Larry.

I know!!! I love Larry! The poor chubby little boy! :) It seemed he was a "change of life baby" His Mother was older and I'm sure his Father was too! His Sister was much older than him as was his Brother, who already was married and had a child (as Larry said in another ep.) !
Back than it was "spare the rod and spoil the child" ,but poor Larry! :( Seemed his Dad was really "Old school",more strict than Mr. Cleaver being Ward was a younger man! And Larry's dad was away on business trips a lot, and Mrs. Mondello was alone to raise a little boy being a middle aged/ older woman already! :(
I LOVE Larry and I LOVE Mrs. Mondello, ;) they were great characters! :) But if you think about it, it is sad for that little boy! :( Probably that is why he got so chubby, he found comfort in food having older parents and no siblings close in age to bond with! :(
gidgetgrape 12-06-2016, 03:30 AM I think The Cosby Show based Rudy's friend, Peter, on Larry Mondello. They have similiar looks and personalities (Peter was less talkative).
Wawwie 12-06-2016, 05:02 PM Back than it was "spare the rod and spoil the child" ,but poor Larry! :( Seemed his Dad was really "Old school",more strict than Mr. Cleaver being Ward was a younger man!
Poor little Larry! He was such a sweet little boy. I can't imagine ever wanting to hit him for any reason.

Yeah, Larry no matter how small amount the trouble, his dad hit him over it. Larry was lucky his dad went out of town a lot, and also Lucky that Ward stepped in to help Mrs Mondelo when her husband was away, since Ward wasn't a hitter.
Wawwie 12-06-2016, 08:38 PM Ward wasn't a hitter.
All in all, Ward was a terrific father.
Svenfan1234 12-06-2016, 08:38 PM I always hated Larry. Useless character in my eyes. He was just irritating. Did he even have a father? Maybe his mother was just hallucinating or something. You never saw his father, and he was "always away". Either they had a crappy marriage, or obviously something went wrong there. I'm glad he went away. I never felt sympathy for him and always wished more harm for him because he obviously was going down the road to a criminal record. Just my honest opinion.

Why? Theres nothing wrong with me.

What? A criminal record,Sven ? He was only a little boy! A lovable little boy! ;)
Svenfan1234 12-06-2016, 09:36 PM What? A criminal record,Sven ? He was only a little boy! A lovable little boy! ;)
Yes. A criminal record when he grows up. He's smoked, he's stolen a boat, he's manipulated, etc. There's a reason he wasn't in the 80s revival (actually, shouldn't say that because I've never seen it)
Wawwie 12-06-2016, 09:42 PM What? A criminal record,Sven ? He was only a little boy! A lovable little boy! ;)
Agreed, Bonnie!
Larry was an innocent little boy. The crime was his ass of a father!!!!
scrapple 12-06-2016, 09:49 PM I think the show lost a little steam when Larry left. Actually, the show changed it's focus, because Beaver's friends became less interesting, and Wally's friends became more interesting.

I suggest you watch the show again and maybe your attitude will change.
Getting back to the OP, I feel sorry for Larry too. His parents never seemed to pay enough attention to him and he did suffer for their mistakes on many occasions. As a character he was really likeable and funny and I wish he hadn't just disappeared after early season 4.

Yeah, I really missed Larry when he left! He was my favorite of Beaver's friends! ;)
Wawwie 12-06-2016, 10:14 PM Yeah, I really missed Larry when he left! He was my favorite of Beaver's friends! ;)
I liked him a lot better than dopey Gilbert.

Beaver smoked too. Larry didn't steal a boat, he and Beaver thought the boat belonged to the two teens and that they were watching it for them.
And he did indeed return for the reunion movie and a few guest appearances on the new show.
Wawwie 12-06-2016, 10:17 PM Beaver smoked too. Larry didn't steal a boat, he and Beaver thought the boat belonged to the two teens and that they were watching it for them.
That's right! The cops even informed the parents that Beaver and Larry did NOT steal the boat. It was those teenage hooligans.
Another thing, it is not against the law to smoke cigarettes.

Yep! There Beaver is holding the pipe! ;) At first they were smoking coffee in the pipe ! Ewww! :p :D

Yeah, I'd say Gilbert was my least favorite of Beaver's friends! After Larry I'd say I liked Whitey ,than Richard, and Gilbert last! ;)
Wawwie 12-06-2016, 10:25 PM Yeah, I'd say Gilbert was my least favorite of Beaver's friends! After Larry I'd say I liked Whitey ,than Richard, and Gilbert last! ;)
Larry was definitely the best. I always thought he was a sweet and honest boy.

Ok, ok, Beaver smoked too. But Larry misbehaved so much -- one instance would be when he broke into his sister's room and read her diary. He also stole money from his Mom. And he was always getting Beaver to do things that would get him in trouble and act stupidly innocent when he wasn't. He needed to be disciplined. He needed to be in jail.
Hazel Anyday 12-07-2016, 01:32 AM Thanks guys for giving me my first big laugh of the day. I find it very fitting that the crying whining complainer who started this thread calls himself “Wahhh” :crybaby: or something like that. What a perfect name. Must be one of the Snowflakes who still can't get over being losers.:D
Yes, I did like Larry best, because he was the most real of Beaver’s friends. BUT he was also the biggest liar, dirtiest sneak, and most treacherous traitor “friend” Beaver had.
Larry constantly initiated trouble, talked Beaver into bad ideas and then when the blankety blank hit the fan, leave it to Larry to blame it all on Beaver:wasntme: and make a hasty retreat leaving Beav to hold the proverbial bag.
Friends like that you really don’t need. Yes, Larry deserved all his beatings and a few more to boot. And if a beating may have been given unjustly, he still deserved it for all the sneaky acts and bad behavior he will do and got away with doing beforehand. Pass me my whip, I want to get in a few lashes now.
Wawwie 12-07-2016, 01:40 AM ^^^ You are sick and f***ed up.

Hazel Anyday 12-07-2016, 01:47 AM Where's the love? Please I may start crying with that hostile talk. Besides I thought you were Mr. Peace and love. :p
icecream 12-07-2016, 02:31 AM I like Larry but he was a troublemaker who needed discipline. There is nothing wrong with spanking, it is Biblical that to spare the rod is to spoil the child.

I need to step in here! Hazel Anyday your posts here are very harsh and uncalled for! :( :nonono:
And Wawwie isn't a he, she's a lady who just simply made a nice thread being concerned about a little boy on a TV show being harshly punished too much by his Dad! ;) I don't understand all your hostility towards her or towards poor Larry Mondello either! ?
Bonniegirl 12-07-2016, 02:35 AM Ok, ok, Beaver smoked too. But Larry misbehaved so much -- one instance would be when he broke into his sister's room and read her diary. He needed to be in jail? Ah jeez, Sven! Come on! :(
PhoenixAcres 12-07-2016, 02:43 AM I like Larry but he was a troublemaker who needed discipline. There is nothing wrong with spanking, it is Biblical that to spare the rod is to spoil the child.
I agree that spanking in and of itself is not a bad thing and giving spankings does not equate to being an abusive parent. I think the point being made was that practically anytime Larry's father was not out of town, and whether Larry deserved it or not, he would be hit.
PhoenixAcres 12-07-2016, 02:49 AM For the record I consider Richard to be Beaver's slimiest "friend". What comes to mind is the time Richard broke a window in an abandoned house, and when the police asked for his name he said Theodore Cleaver, when Beaver was NOWHERE near there and had nothing to do with the window breaking. That was just mean and cruel. Then the police came knocking on the Cleavers' house and upset Beaver's parents when all along he was completely innocent.
gidgetgrape 12-07-2016, 05:27 PM I always felt like Larry wanted to help and standup for Beaver, but he was too afraid of being punished by his father.
Wawwie 12-07-2016, 05:42 PM I always felt like Larry wanted to help and standup for Beaver, but he was too afraid of being punished by his father.
Larry was definitely terrified of his father. In today's episode, Larry mentioned that his father wouldn't even talk to him all because Larry ate some pie in his bed.
Larry's father was a tyrant.
Babalu 12-07-2016, 06:10 PM Now play nice....

mets82 12-07-2016, 06:46 PM I liked Larry. Did he cause trouble? Yes. But I think that's more of him bring a kid than a delinquent. I couldn't stand Gilbert. He had shifty eyes and a big b.s.er.
Torgo 12-07-2016, 07:48 PM I liked all the friends, even the later ones like Alan. But Larry will always be my favorite. Unlike the other kids, we saw his home life.
Hazel Anyday 12-07-2016, 10:37 PM Back to Bonniegirl for a corrective note and a return admonishment. First of all I don’t recall nominating you as my censor or my conscience. You stick to your Tiger Beat postings Mommy, I don’t need your comments on my attitudes. I could make the same critical comments on your rather juvenile postings I’ve seen over on your Tiger Beat alley. But I'm far too nice to consider that. So you just stick to your own business and I’ll stick to mine.
Second Waahhh Waahh is the real one who made some overly harsh and uncalled for comments with her first post and then making it worse her continued overly harsh:mad: and uncalled for comments to anybody that dared to disagree with her. Waah was wrong and so are you. Wag your busy little finger at Waahhh Wahhh before you point that fickle finger of fate at me little lady. Now accept your punishment or I'll get out the strap. ;) And Larry was a sneak and a liar. But I still liked him because he was the most real. When I once asked my Dad what was that for (after giving me a clop) he said, "That's for what you're thinking." I think Larry deserved the same treatment.

MISST3 12-07-2016, 11:16 PM Larry was my favorite, too! I liked him the most of all of Beaver's friends.
We did get to see glimpses of his home life, but we got to see glimpses
of Lumpy's home life, too. We got to see how Mr. Rutherford builds him up
in front of others - ("Clarence, has the type of personality that other boys
take to!") to, putting him down or calling him names, at home - ("You
Big Boob!")

Yeah that's right! ;) It seemed like Violet was really the apple of Fred's eye of his two children!

Yes, he was obviously pure evil.
Tankeryanker 12-08-2016, 12:04 PM Yes, he was obviously pure evil.
That is who Larry is! He is the spawn of Satan. Larry's dad must be Satan. Now we know why his dad was always busy out of town. :happyface  :D

Fred didn't even invite Lumpy to the picnic though he invited Wally, unless maybe Lumpy was being grounded for something like taking oil out of his dad's car for his own.

Seriously though, those two examples you do have point on as far as it wasn't just talking Beaver into doing something. Larry did take the money from his mom, and he took Beaver into his sister's room and made it sound like it was okay to do. I still think calling him a delinquent and should be locked up to be harsh. Some of us did dumb things when we were kids, and didn't grow up to be criminals.
Retro4Life 12-08-2016, 12:50 PM Gilbert was a neat character, but he was a weasel, too. I liked how he would clash with Eddie at times.
And yes, I did feel for poor old Larry. It seemed like there was a conscious effort on the part of the show to make all of the other fathers worse than Ward, perhaps to solidify how good of a father he was. (He was good, but not perfect).

Yep, anyone who can't understand how a little boy being physically and mentally abused is disturbed. And the fact that he went off on us both for defending little Larry is sick. I hope that idiot didn't upset you.

I think you're the sick one for lashing out at everyone for disagreeing with you. Newsflash: the world doesn't revolve around you. I thought you probably didn't know that already. You shouldn't lash out at people and hope everything turns out okay. Because it won't. Stop starting drama and try to get along with people.

Oh, well. This thread isn't worth my time. Larry is my least favorite character on the show next to Lumpy, that's all there is to it. That's my opinion. I don't care about Wahh Wahh's opinion. It's my opinion. It's not worth my time to talk about this to somebody who doesn't listen to anyone's opinions.
Wawwie 12-08-2016, 08:36 PM No, I'm fine. I'm not upset! ;)
^^^ Do you see what we're dealing with? We are the sick ones for defending a little boy who is physically/mentally abused by his father. Shame on us.

Hazel Anyday 12-08-2016, 10:55 PM Yep, Wahh Wahh, I had your number from the very first “harsh and uncalled for” despicable words you roared at the first person who dared to disagree with your distorted and twisted viewpoint. You just continue to pat your little brats on the head and keep telling them how wonderful they are and see the monsters you create.
Wah Wah, you really are only here to create drama. When things calm down you come back and start back with your idiotic statements. Bonnie doesn’t need a weasel like you to defend her. When she’s wrong she only needs me to point it out. And you Wahh are wrong all the time. Bonnie is always a good kid till she gets egged on by the likes of you.
In fact, now that I consider this with an intelligent and mindful comparison. YOU, Wah Wah YOU are Larry and Bonnie is Beaver. You are the one to start the trouble then leave Bonnie behind to face the lion. No wonder you like Larry, you’re just as much a sneaky weasel as your little Angel Larry. Get over yourself, try telling off someone who cares about what you think. That ain’t me.

Agreed 100% and I always thought the point of this website was to have fun with our different viewpoints! But Wahh Wahh is making it incredibly difficult to discuss things without her ramming her tyrannical ways down our throats.

You are acting like an extremely immature child. Get over it. We have different viewpoints. Go ruin somebody else's day, you are so good at it. I may be young, but at least I can tolerate and respect other people's opinions. Can't say the same for you.
Bonniegirl 12-09-2016, 12:23 AM OK ! I have had enough! I'm not going to say anymore, and I'm sure Wawwie feels the same way, but I'm not trying to speak for her !
BUT!!!!
The two of you (Hazel and Sven ) are way out of hand and over the line now! Do you even know what the hell you are even fighting about anymore? Sven we are/were friends posting on ODAAT threads for a long time now,and Hazel Anyday we met on the Dennis the menace threads a while ago and you were a nice/cool guy and we became friends.Than you didn't post on SO for awhile and came back and seemed to become a bit hostile for IDK what reason?
So I'm just saying! You both are pushing it here, and for what? I'm usually a fair, mellow type person but this has gotten ridicules and sometimes people can be pushed too far !:(
Hazel Anyday 12-09-2016, 01:30 AM Bonnie, you and I really don’t have a problem other than you don’t seem to recognize the right side to be on and in which direction to point your wagging finger. Over and over here Wah Wah has insulted, tried to bully, dismiss and shut down ANYONE that disagrees with her. Instead of you pointing your finger at Wahh where it belongs and scolding her for her rude and insulting words as she is truly the guilty party you for some reason keep taking this fool’s side. Sorry to see it Bonnie, but you're wrong here. I still like you even if you continue to take sides with a total fool. This time you picked the wrong side to hang your hat with, but so be it. You’re entitled a mistake once in a while.
Now I predict, and watch and see just how innocent Wah is now, that Wah after all is calm will come back and stir that pot to create drama again. Learn from this Bonnie and realize who the jack ass is that's pushing it too far, your dear innocent big mouth, Wahh Wahh. It’s seems obvious to everyone except you. Oh well, as I said you're entitled to a mistake.
egghead 12-09-2016, 04:32 PM to the OP, I feel sorry for Larry too. His parents never seemed to pay enough attention to him and he did suffer for their mistakes on many occasions. As a character he was really likeable and funny and I wish he hadn't just disappeared after early season 4.
poor Larry, his dad never paid attention to him unless he was hitting him.
egghead 12-09-2016, 04:35 PM Thanks guys for giving me my first big laugh of the day. I find it very fitting that the crying whining complainer who started this thread calls himself “Wahhh” :crybaby: or something like that. What a perfect name. Must be one of the Snowflakes who still can't get over being losers.:D
 you are crazy
and you are the one who started insulting other posters in this thread.
all the animosity here started with you and svenfan

Thank you Egghead for standing up for us ! ;) And welcome to Sitcoms online! I just hope he doesn't start bullying you now too!
egghead 12-09-2016, 07:19 PM ^post #8 wasn't the only post to disagree with svenfan. This seemed like it was supposed to be a friendly thread about Larry but turned very ugly because of hazel and sven
Hazel Anyday 12-09-2016, 08:44 PM Huh, here I am trying to extend the olive branch to Bonnie (for the 2nd time yet) and I'm called Wah Wah's name, bully. Bonnie you cut me to the quick. I'll rise above your name calling though, see I'm the friend who's nice. Not that mean old Wah.
And Egghead, are you really Vincent Price? Well, you're cracked. Get it, egg, cracked? Funny huh? Oh, that's right you sensitive types NEVER have a sense of humor. Buck up, it'll be OK.;)

If you were really Bonnie's friend as you say you would have apologized to her by now for being so nasty with her the other day.

Thank you Anna, I love you my dear Sisterwife.:) ;) But I would feel bad getting you caught up in all this drama and negativity here!:(

Love you back, dear Sisterwife
Just putting in my two cents. I am done now.
CanICallYouDad 12-09-2016, 11:28 PM Larry was a troublemaker. We named one of our cats after him
Hazel Anyday 12-10-2016, 08:42 PM OK, Phoenix, let me get this straight, I respond to Wahh in kind to her nasty tone, Bonnie then tells me I’m the one who’s wrong for calling a Spade a Spade. I then tell Bonnie she needs to get her rights and wrongs straight. She then repeats her negative remarks, I extend Olive branch one, get insulted again, extend olive branch 2 get insulted again by the blind judge Bonnie. I then try for one last time to be Mr. Nice Guy and say OK, we all make mistakes to Bonnie (for her repeated insults) and once again I’m defined as the bad guy by blinder than a bat Annie who can’t recognize an apology unless the word is actually used. And then there’s poor Eggy who Phoenix thinks has been scared straight by little me AFTER, of course, Eggy insults ME!!! Of course, no mention that Eggy insulted first. No, why bring sense into the argument of the stupid.
I tell you how I sees it Phoenix, I think every one of you should get down on your knees and thank your maker for a truth telling friend like me who will always stand up for what’s right and tell any one off who’s an offender of decency, no matter who it is.
Now just so you all can take your thumbs out of your collective mouths I want you to know I accept all of your long overdue apologies to one as benevolent as myself. For the only one offended here by mass illogical, ass-backward thinking and negativity & the only one truly due an apology is your kindly all knowing, the all wise one, me.
Now I bid you all a fond and well deserved Good Riddance.:p
CanICallYouDad 12-10-2016, 08:51 PM What a thread...PU What would Ward say?
mets82 12-10-2016, 10:29 PM I don't know how the thread came to this. To me, all Larry was, was a kid. Just a kid. Nothing more, nothing less. He should not be sent to Juevy, shouldn't be incarcerated, arrested etc. He was just a kid and I think the thread got out of hand.
Hazel and Sven, I don't know about you but Bonnie has always been nice to me. Same for Wawwie. We can disagree. Nothing wrong with that but you can be civil too.
egghead 12-26-2016, 10:29 PM Poor Larry! He was a nice kid and it's too bad that his parents totally ignored him unless they were beating the poor boy. I felt bad for him too.
Tar Tar Binks 12-26-2016, 10:34 PM I agree it was Larry's parents that were out of hand. Larry was a curious kid and sure he got in trouble and he also got Beaver in some real jams as well, but nothing more than any kid would do.
Svenfan1234 12-26-2016, 10:35 PM I wish this stupid thread hadn't gotten revived. Now we're going to hear that hypocritical Wahhh Wahhh's "facts about Larry the little angel." Sick and tired of this!

Yeah, I've been reading through these posts, and you seem to be very bitter and dicky for no reason at all.

Bitter? Not at all. I am not bitter. I just wish that we hadn't revived this thread and upon all that I was kinda in a bitter mood so that may be why.

Stop pretending you're a different person Wawwie aka Roger aka Steffy... whatever different name you have this year.

ohno:
Sunshine Cab 12-27-2016, 06:18 PM Larry Mondello seemed like a sad and ignored kid.
I hope somehow he knows how much attention he is getting here in this thread. :)
Here he was in happier times. ;)
