I ask because in the GAB ep called "Joey", both Nell and the Chief eventually get custody of Joey Donovan. I will say that was a good ep...it was also one of the few times Chief's daughters turn against their father!

Either that or the ratings were slipping and they decided to add a cute kid to the cast.

I remember on "Different Strokes" the addition of Sam. I would say that the addition of Joey on "Gimme a Break!" was on the same idea. However, I never watched "Webster" on a regular basis. What were the circumstances in which they added a little kid to that show? If we were to go a decade before that, we would have the addition of Cousin Oliver on the "Brady Bunch". That was also on the same idea. And the next year after Joey was added to "Gimme a Break!" Andy was added to the "Facts of Life". Very interesting how TV history repeats itself!
