I was watching The Facts Of Life and noticed that it was produced by a production company called Embassy Television and I would like to know if you remember this company? Embassy Television was a big producer of sitcoms from the 70's and 80's and in addition to The Facts Of Life Embassy Productions also produced the sitcoms Square Pegs and Silver Spoons and is known for having a logo with a star and a blue logo while music plays in the background

Embassy only produced
Diff'rent Stroke's final season from Tandem Productions, which was eventually operated by Embassy.

From T.A.T. Communications to Embassy Television to ELP Communications (in-name copyright you see in the closing credits of some of the shows produced by Embassy that ran into the end of the 1980s and throughout the 1990s) there was still some awesome shows from the Lear tree.

Also you can't forget 227 w/ Marla Gibbs and Jackee Harry, Who's the Boss? with Tony Danza and Married with Children (one of the last shows to be produced under the Embassy Television name, along with the short-lived series The Charmings) all 3 successful Embassy Television shows.

Seasons 9-11 of The Jeffersons were also done by Embassy while Seasons 1-8 were done under the old name TAT.

Is Embassy Television still in business? Because I noticed that Sony Pictures Television shows it's logo at the end of each episode of The Facts Of Life rather than the Embassy Television logo with music so does this mean that Embassy Television went broke and got bought by Sony Pictures Television?

In the 80's, Embassy Television had a slogan that said, "We Keep America Laughing".

Embassy started out as Tandem Productions, and was owned by Norman Lear.

They were bought out by Coca Cola's communications arm back in the 1980s (who also owned Columbia Pictures), Coca Cola then sold Columbia Pictures and what was Embassy Television to Tri-Star and they renamed the television arm "Columbia Television." Sony then bought out the Columbia Television arm.

During Married With Children's original run, you first saw the Embassy Television logo with a Coca Cola byline at the end of the first season or two, and then several seasons after that, you would see the Columbia Television logo at the end.

Now on Married With Children reruns, you only see the Sony Pictures Television logo.

Just checked that out, and on at least one episode each of Silver Spoons and Square Pegs, the Embassy credit was simply an in-credit card reading "An Embassy Television Production." It wasn't until the bottom of Sept. 1982 that the logo as we know it started.

It was in November of 1982 that the blue background version debuted. The Jeffersons (and 227) actually had the variation that started out being superimposed on the credit crawl but soon faded to the usual blue background.

Also, some Square Pegs episodes actually had the in-credit version of the logo with the animation and jingle. Yes, while still in the credits! I remember seeing that version on TV Land about 10 years ago. Some One Day at a Time season 8 episodes also used that rare variation.

I go and watch a couple of late-Season 8 episodes of One Day at a Time today on FETV and I find the original Embassy Television "Spinning/Rolling E" logo gone completely. I think it's because Sony Pictures Television forgot to restore the original logo, or didn't bother to because they want to continue their chronic plastering habits. On a print of those same episodes that were posted on YouTube, it's the Columbia Tristar TV logo replacing Embassy TV. Those prints were obviously older.

Embassy also produced "It's Your Move" in 1984-1985.

Antenna airs the original Embassy and Columbia Tristar logos when they air the Embassy seasons of One Day at a Time. I wonder what Shout! Factory's set will include. Fetv must have gotten the full length episodes of ODAAT.

If past history is repeated, Shout! Factory should use the original logos.

There's no consistency as to what logos stay and what ones are deleted, when it comes to Sony. So, sometimes you'll see the Embassy logo, sometimes it's cut out, just like all their other old logos (like Screen Gems).

True! Their 2006 Blue Thunder all-in-one (short as that 1984 adventure series was on ABC then) had the 80s Coke Lady of CPT whitewashed and replaced with the longform SPT logo.

However, Shout!'s fourth- and fifth-and-final-season releases of Hart to Hart (1982-84) did much better IMO, those having a bylineless version of the 80s Torch Lady, that with the same jingle as the Coke Lady (granted, it wasn't the Coke Lady, but hey, it was the 80s Torch Lady, so I didn't complain one bit).

At some point the 4th season of Silver Spoons was remastered for showing on MeTV (Chicago), complete with original bumpers and Embassy logo. Inclusion of original cast voiceovers is unheard of. If it ever makes it to DVD, I'd hope these would be included.

Also, the remastered version of the 8th season of Diff'rent Strokes as shown on Starz Black, includes the Embassy logo. The versions originally shown did not include the Embassy logo (nor did the version shown on BET years ago). They also eliminated the credits jitter that occurs on so many bad remasterings.

It's too bad we don't see the old credits like you see in the past. Now, all you see is Fremantle, Sony, Carsey and Warner(Roseanne).

Apparently, the Embassy TV "Spinning/Rolling E" logo is retained on two season 9 episodes of One Day at a Time: "Shakedown" and "Not a Creature Was Staying".

And about the in-credit Embassy TV logo during ODaaT's season 8... well, for some reason, it's been cut out on some episodes, meaning after the copyright stamp and the "A Production of Allwhit, Inc." notice, it would go straight to the Sony TV logo. TV One's prints of The Jeffersons seasons 9 to 11 have a similar problem, and on earlier seasons (1 to 8), the TAT Communications Co. in-credit notice is omitted.

That's all typical of Sony. However, I noticed on Starz Black, they restored the "Rolling E" on Season 8 of Diff'rent Strokes.

The "Rolling E" was intact on "One Day at a Time" episodes on Antenna TV's syndicated prints as well as Shout! Factory's DVDs of ODAAT. It's the same for "Diff'rent Strokes". Fetv must be using newer prints of ODAAT.

I think Sony had to remaster Diff'rent Strokes for Starz Black. Originally, the credits had a lot of jitter. When they remastered it, evidently they restored the "rolling E", because I remember on the original run (when Starz Black was called Encore Black) did not have it.

I imagine they also had to remaster ODAAT for Antenna TV, and included it there, also.

I've also seen Silver Spoons later seasons, remastered for MeTV Chicago. Not only was the Embassy logo included, but also the "Silver Spoons will return after these messages" bumpers were included. Evidently they rolled the original videotape, unedited.

If a film/TV company buys out another one, they're going to replace the logo on that other company's shows with its own. That's how business is, and they have a right to do that.

So basically, since Sony bought out Columbia, it was their right to replace the 80s Coke Lady of CPT that was originally on Blue Thunder in 1984 on ABC with the SPT Bars of Boredom, and thus to give the impression that Blue Thunder was on and made in 2006? That's just how I'm reading you.

I agree, merged companies have a right to edit their shows any way they want. My comment is that Sony/Columbia Pics. has been inconsistent over the years. They'll edit out original logos, and leave intermediate logos on old Screen Gems shows, for example. Why? Leave the original logo (as Universal does), and add the new logo at the end. Establish a policy, and be uniform.

Frankly, some of the stuff we do in business will be seen as flat-out inexcusable.:(

Also, what if you had the Viacom V of Doom's music being heard plastering Columbia/Embassy/Screen Gems logos at the end of Sony's shows, for crying out loud?

I see the "Rolling E" has been restored on Silver Spoons season 2, as shown on GAC Family. The rolling credits bob up and down like crazy. Bad mastering--I read somewhere it means they digitally master at an incorrect frame rate--probably wrong for old videotaped shows.

Yeah, videotape frame rate was 29.997 FPS while film is 24. If the frame rate is set wrong on the digital master, the result will be bad judder.

I wonder if that generally degrades the PQ.
